    I started using the Dexcom G6 with my new tandem pump a year ago and since it’s only every three months that we change the transmitter, I always watch the videos to make sure I don’t screw something up. I’ve watched many videos and yours is the absolute clearest with step-by-step instructions to help me remember how to pair the devices and manage the settings. So thank you!

      Yes so true, it's my first time changing my Dexcom G7 with the Tandem t:slimx2. I've had my pump and Sensor for 10 days. I appreciate your video, very clear. I'm glad you included the app because my first time using the Dexcom I had an issue and had to call the company, so my trainer bypassed the app when I inserted the Sensor, so on my Dexcom app I kept having an alert to insert new sensor, but now as I changed my Dexcom sensor for the first time I was able to get the app up and running. Thank you! 🎉🙏🌻🙂

    I was diagnosed with T1D at 6. Then in my late twenties I received a kidney/pancreas transplant. Diabetes was gone for about 4 years. Now based on my previous lab results, transplanted pancreas is giving out and I’ll be back as a diabetic again. Sugars are high at least once a day. Still when my transplanted pancreases was working, I kept my diet very restricted. It sucks, but oh well. I’m looking into this Dexcom G6 sensor. Great video!!!

    I have found this tutorial very helpful! I have just travelled Europe with my type 1 friend who uses Dexcom, and now have more of a handle on understanding it. I’m a nurse of some 40 years experience, but until this holiday, have not had exposure to this system.
    One problem we had whilst away was her treatment when she mentioned that she was unable to put her sensors etc through the X-ray scanner. She was surrounded by police on one occasion, treated as if she was a criminal on almost all occasions, and told that in order to be able to go through without X-ray on another occasion, she needed authorisation from the government of that country! Education regarding these things is so important!

    • @TypeOneTypeFun
      @TypeOneTypeFun  Рік тому

      Hi Gina! I am so glad that my video was helpful for you - thank you for watching and commenting! Other than X-ray scanners, I hope you two had the best trip! I agree that education is very important. Different countries have different policies so it’s important to look into these things before hand but hopefully everything was sorted. I recommend carrying proof of medical necessity and double checking with each airlines regulations specifically before travel. I hope this is helpful and I’m wishing y’all the very best!

    Love your expression when referring to 'pricking your fingers' to calibrate (when needed)... lol I've been a T1D for close to 45 years, and remember back in the day when we had to test our urine! No personal poking of fingers for blood samples at that time. lol Then you had to use an eye dropper to put two drops of urine into a test tube, then add 10 drops of water followed by a dissolving pill which changed the colour of the fluid based on the amount of sugar in your urine.. then you'd compare the colour to a chart.. blue was really great... low sugar... but burnt orange meant that you were high.. this included other shades of orange etc, along the chart. All guess work. Then came the finger poking deice which was the size of a kleenex box, and you jabbed your finger with a small version of what looked like a razor blade. They soon invented something that launched a sharpened item into your finger.. geez.. it was horrid but we've come a long way! Cheers!

      I have been a type 1 diabetic for 55 years, and the best way to check blood sugars, in my opinion, is the regular glucometers. It's just a small finger prick, and I am so used to them. My doctor however, says that the CGM glucometers are better, but I am so illiterate on all this new technology. I do not know how to use most of this new technology. Call me old fashioned.

    Just got the Dexcom G6 and excited about trying new technology. I was diagnosed as a Type 1 at 10 years old and I am going on 58 living with diabetes for 48 years and so far, I am still going strong. After being diagnosed at such a young age, it was hard for me to make the change being I have done the testing the old way, first urine strips then the blood glucose monitors. I am not on the insulin pump but my doc is talking about putting me on Lantus and Novolog. So far, I do not have any complications from my diabetes but my A1C is still elevated a 9.5. With this new Dexcom, I am looking to start improving my treatment plan and definitely plan on getting that A1C down. Thanks for the video and one thing I have learned in life is you are always learning something new.

      Just letting you know I am hooked up and ready to go. Very easy and straight forward. Just waiting for the transmitter and receiver to pair then should get readings soon afterwards. Do you have any trouble with the adhesive sticking to your arm when you are bathing or swimming?

      @@TypeOneTypeFun Did you have trouble pairing your receiver with your transmitter? I have double checked the serial number for the transmitter but cannot get it to pair up. I just met someone wearing one of these and she was nice enough to tell me the name of the device so I could learn more, and that's how I came here. Your instructions answered lots of my questions.
    I am wondering though, how long does it last before you have to do the full switch like you show here? How many times do you get to just change the insert instead of the whole thing? That you show no pain when it stabs you for the set up, that's impressive. I feel everything so for me, that would have earned an OUCH! at the smallest.
    Thanks so much for this video to help anyone understand more.

      Hi there! I am so glad that my video was educational for you and thank you for your compliment on my pain tolerance, lol!
      To answer your question, the sensor (patch that is inserted on the body) lasts for ten days and the transmitter (device that clicks and sits in the sensor) lasts for three months. So, the entire switch happens every 90 days.
      Thank you for your comment and please let me know if there is anything else I can clarify for you. All the best!

I liked and subscribed too!

      Mark, it is my pleasure. When I began my journey with Dexcom, my brother was right there with me. He is one of the reasons I began to feel so confident but I always knew that I could fall back on him for help. Thank you for helping your brother with his care. I am wishing you both the very best!

    very well explained video..but i feel the size of dexcom is big and there is always a risk it might come out getting stuck to something

    • @TypeOneTypeFun
      @TypeOneTypeFun  3 роки тому +2

      Hey Henry, thanks for watching! If you are referring to the device used to insert the Dexcom becoming stuck, I simply suggest that we all slow down and make a conscious effort when inserting the Dexcom so it does not become stuck to anything accidentally. I hope this helps!

    Fantastic video. The instructions definitely didn't give me a good sense of how to put this on. But the biggest thing I'm wondering is how much of an issue is it if I wander in and out of range of my phone periodically throughout the day, as a Type 2 diabetic.

    • @TypeOneTypeFun
      @TypeOneTypeFun  2 роки тому +1

      Great question and thank you for your comment! The answer depends on how far away your phone is. I find that I have issues if my phone is in another room and if, for example, you are working with the size of a sports field and your device is located on the edge, you might run into some disconnection. It comes down to how much connectivity you are willing to lose if it is not possible to keep your phone on or near your monitor. I hope this is helpful!

      Hey Stephen, thank you very much for your comment. I used to use an adhesive remover for the exact same reason. I no longer use additional adhesive (for now), but I anticipate that I will incorporate the remover again if I need the adhesive. Thanks again and all the best!

    This video helped me tremendously when I first started using the Dexcom CGM with my Tandem pump, better than the educators at Stanford Endocrinology Clinic. Why do you use both the Tandem app, and the Dexcom app? What information does the Dexcom provide that the t:connect doesn’t? I am thinking of using the Dexcom app, as it is available on the Apple Watch; whereas, t:slim is not.

    • @TypeOneTypeFun
      @TypeOneTypeFun  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Matthew! Thank you so much for this high praise. I started using the Dexcom app and eventually added the t:connect app due to my doctor’s request for sharing data. It was about familiarity at first but I have an Apple Watch now so it’s nice to connect the two. Additionally, technology can fail so I like to be prepared and have my glucose in as many places as possible. I hope this is helpful!

    I been using Medtronic to control my diabetes but my sister is getting ready to use the Dexcom G6 and she’s not the best at comprehension. I’m going to send her your video because you did a pretty good job of explaining. If it works out well for her I may be interested in Dexcom G6. My warranty has expired so if I have issues and the out of pocket expense is expensive to replace my pump I’ll definitely look into Dexcom G6

    • @TypeOneTypeFun

      Hey Timothy! Thank you for sending my video to your sister. The Dexcom is a continuous glucose monitor and the insulin pump I use is a Tandem t:slim x2. They communicate via Control-IQ technology to read my blood glucose and give me the appropriate amount of insulin. I hope this helps!
