    They absolutely have their use case; I know furniture makers who have high-end 12v tools you can’t even get batteries for anymore. The 18v drills and drivers are WAY too big for some of what they do!

      Specialty trades like that definitely demand the 12v market. Kinda ridiculous to have high end tools you can’t even get batteries for anymore. Almost seems like an oxymoron 😂. Cabinetry is another one. When I install kitchens it can get Harry in some situations. Especially 9 inch uppers and lowers. Thanks for the input wholesomegamer! Thanks for watching!

      @@themaintenanceman1Bosch 3 plane laser 12v or m12 3 plane laser will last like a month on one battery.
      I don't think these tool brands are dependant on what's being sold at big box stores. If we go by that, Milwaukee and DeWalt will be the only brands around in 5 years, but these tool companies wax and wane. They've all been the top brand at one point or another, or several times, then wane, then come back.

    You’d have to pry my dewalt 12v impact from my cold unalived hands. I like it so much I got one at home and one at work. It’s super light, well balanced, very compact and packs a punch. I always find myself reaching for, and using, it. As far as the Milwaukee 12v impact…I have the previous generation, but. I rarely use it since I got the dewalt. Something about it just feels unnatural….cumbersome/awkward if you will. I also have the atomic impact…it’s powerful but I just can’t stop using the 12v ❤️

    • @themaintenanceman1
      @themaintenanceman1  10 місяців тому +2

      Lol. I’m a huge fan of 12v stuff as well! They got enough power to do most of what I need and love how compact they are. I’ve used both the Milwaukee and dewalt lineups and I agree the dewalts are just well rounded and you can stand them on there battery. I think Milwaukee has a bit more power but not enough for me to care. The Skil 12v stuff is great as well. Thanks for watching Justin!

    I feel it depends on size and performance. I own a lot of m12 and m18. Use the m12 the most. Some brands 12v line don't have a whole lot smaller footprint. A 2ah m12 surge hangs off my pocket more comfortably than a 2ah m18, and itll do the vast majority of the work an m18 will. Just my opinion though.

    • @themaintenanceman1
      @themaintenanceman1  10 місяців тому

      I appreciate that you are respectful with your response. I truly do. In the video I do state that m12 and dewalt are probably the only 12v lineups that will survive from the big brands. I will say this though from someone who has run both the m12 and m18 surges. The m12 in my opinion is pointless. M18 is same size bigger battery but size wise better. I actually have a video comparing the 2. But as I always say use what works best for you! Thanks for watching and commenting! Have a great night!

    Very nice intro. I think with all the independent tool companies (i.e. amazon brands) that the market will be oversaturated in years to come, and might end up crashing a bit. Not exactly a good comparison, but think of those electric rental scooters and bikes that were literally everywhere just a few years ago, and now they're all in the dump and you hardly see any. As far as size goes, I think there's always going to be a market for smaller power tools, as the building trades and other blue collar jobs become more high tech there will be a continuous demand for tools to fit in smaller areas that aren't used continuously. Think an HVAC tech vs a deck builder. But like you said the sizes between 18 and 12V are becoming similar, so 12V is beginning to lose the only major advantage it had, especially as battery technology becomes more advanced and 18V batteries can become more compact. Tools come and go, the old Makita 9.6V line was useful when it came out and it went the way of the dinosaur.

    • @themaintenanceman1
      @themaintenanceman1  10 місяців тому +1

      Very good points made by you! It is pretty saturated market on amazon and the box stores some have a good 12v selection others are empty. I agree the makita 9.6v was amazing for its time but it’s time did pass. It’s though to say what will happen but we shall see. Thanks for watching!

    On the boat of having lots of M12 with even more on my wishlist, but wouldn't even consider 12V from anyone else.
    Conversely, M12 has gotten so powerful in some cases that for those specific tools I don't need an 18V. I replaced all my old brushed 18V set with M12 Fuel and it's lighter and more powerful than Granddad's tools, which build America, so..... the need for mOaR PoWaaaa! at some point I think has diminishing returns on actual time saved vs size. I'm happy with where a lot of these tools sit.
    Don't get me wrong, I still have 18, 40, and 60V tools where power is needed. 7 1/4".... 10" Miter.... Chainsaws.... Trimmers.... Blowers....

    It’s hard to say what the 12 stuff is going to do, I suspect they may make 20volt the new 12 and 48 the new 18 volt. Small form factor tools are great and the m12 line has some of my favourite Milwaukee tools hands down

Buuut makita don’t seem to be really investing in there 12v cxt platform so I don’t know if they plan to discontinue it!, mmmm why didn’t you mention makita at all sir? As for Makita tools I’ve liked every tool I’ve owned of there’s and they definitely get slept on alot. They are a tried and true brand that being said I would love to see them revamp their lineups. And with the subcompacts I’m not sure if there 12v would still be considered. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next few years and who drops their 12v lineups. Skil 12v lineup (a nice set) all that stuff is getting clearanced out so it’s just the state of 12v tools. Mikita has there subcompact tools so I’m not sure if there 12v platform will be around and dewalt just has so many lineups out of all the cordless tools that they rotate which ones they reinvest in. They have bulked up there 12v lineup but at the same time there 20v stuff is about the same size and has more power.
