FULL REVIEW OF THE SCHUBERTH C5 NOW LIVE HERE: www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/reviews/products/helmets/schuberth-c5-flip-front-review Included is info on fitting a Cardo intercom, as well as details of a fogging issue I encountered in extreme circumstances.
Just bought Neotec 2 after riding with my C4 for the last 4 years, the C4 was rubbish, not likely to go back to Schuberth for a few generations now. The Shoei is fab, love it. Also don't like the current trend of helmet manufacturers fitting a bespoke fitting for Sena when I prefer Cardo for example. They should agree and industry standard fit that allows the buyer to fit whatever brand they prefer.
@@powertrip1050 only problem with the shoei ( i have the neotec and a neotec2) is you are stuck with the comm unit based on the sena s20, the c5 comms is the sena s50 , a step up from the s20 in the shoei
@@MrBurrrG thanks , SENA SRL MESH !! Awesome. Always liked SHOEI helmets just didnt want to buy the sena 20s old system with a new helmet. Not the case anymore !
@@malidawgz5690 As I understand it, you are not stuck with using only the S20 with the Neotec II. You can use others. I would use a Sena C50 instead, with a camera. As far as the Schuberth and the S50, I'm not sure if the wiring is compatible or not with the C50 or other models. Maybe someone can chime in that knows.
Always intrigued by Schuberth helmets but it's the Shark Evo ES for me. Only sun visor I've found that's actually dark enough and best of all fits a round oval head!
Great run down in your video - my additional comments - thanks After 80K miles with my C3 - I decided to try the large 65 size - I tried one on and it felt comfortable right away - and I'm hard to fit in a helmet. FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SHUBERTH C5 HELMET The good - very quiet with the outer visor fully down - quieter than the C3 - Good ergonomics on all of the vent controls - Very comfortable - The Internal Sun Visor is a bit longer than the C3 - providing better coverage. Also, when riding with the Outer Visor Up, on the C3, the wind hits the Sun Visor and causes the lower edge to buffet which is distracting - on the C5 lower edge of the Sun visor does not buffet as much and is lower, not in the direct line of sight which is a major improvement. - Front Vents work great The "a bit disappointing" - As I have a Tall windshield I ride with the outer visor up quite a bit, With the visor all the way there is significantly more noise and buffeting than the C3. If I click the outer visor down 1-2 clicks, I'd say 80-90% of that noise goes away and the C5 is then only slightly more noisy with the Outer Visor up. (This may be due to the new shape of the top of the outer visor) - The Top vent did not seem to work - maybe a tiny bit and significantly less than the C3 top vent. I plan to double check the top vent for blockages or if the vent is working - however, the slide mechanism feels normal. - a bit warm due to ventilation Summary - I just took the helmet out for the first time today here in Colorado - hopefully goes from "OK" to a "BIG WIN" with a little bit of time.
Good, honest review thank you. As the owner of a Schuberth shaped head and a flip-lid convert, this is of real interest to me. Actually, it's shaping up to be my next lid in a couple of years! My current E1 is okay, but unexceptional if I'm being honest, but the fit is pretty much perfect, so I'm kind of bought into Schuberth.
2 shell sizes doesn't justify the high price in my opinion. Many midrange helmets use 2 shell sizes to keep cost, and price down, but this isn't a cheap helmet. For comparison the Shoei Neotec 2 comes in 4 shell sizes. In this price range, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect at least 3 shell sizes
The rear strap thing is very interesting. Every collision I have seen with a FF that comes off the helmet detaches from the rear and goes forward - often before impact. It's a startling thing to see with some claiming the chin strap wasn't fastened but...not so.
I agree with you. I just received a sample of C5 Master Blue last week and it fits way much better than C4 Pro. The weight is 1,640gr in size L. I thought an ECE22.06 modular helmet will be heavier, so I appreciate its weight (my Shoei X14 Snell is 1,615gr) The cheek pads also much better with velcro instead of zipper. The top vent also works superb. It feels like my X14 that has the best vents Thanks for the review!
After trying about every available flip-front helmet that's available here in the US I yet have to find the one that fits properly. My 2015 C3 Pro finally broke, and now I hope the C5 becomes available here soon, hoping this one does fit better than the C4 Pro. Thanks for the really helpful review, it answered exactly the questions I had about the C5. 👍🏻
I like the svelte style of the C3 Pro, and I've had two. This one looks more Shoei than Schuberth - bigger and more 'blocky'. But it's the fit and safety aspects that matter in the end, and I'll certainly be trying one on when the time comes for a new lid.
I do enjoy your reviews, even when i am not interested in a particular product, seem well thought out and thorough, i bought the Tracer 9gt based on you and your missus's review, but moved onto the R1250gs te last week, a different ball game
Thanks very much! Wow - you didn't have the Tracer long... what made you swap? The BMW is an awesome machine - hope you weren't disappointed with the Yam after buying it. Cheers, John
Hey, John, as someone who works in the bike gear trade, just wanted to say thanks for actually giving a decent and impartial review. There have been some companies who have had the C5 early and have been spreading a degree of misinformation (I hate to name names but it's important that Champion Helmets gets called out) and it's refreshing to see someone who is a genuine rider who is actually riding in it and can give a proper opinion. The C5 is definitely a helmet I'm interested in as I am hopefully going to be starting the process to become an IAM Observer and I was wanting to get a flip up for that, to talk to my associates at a stop. I know for most people this with the comms will be a heavy investment, but considering this helmet is leagues beyond the C4 and C4 Pro (as well as the comms), I think it should be on the shortlist for people looking at a touring flip up. Thanks again, and roll on the official public release!
Perfect timing, just about to look for my next helmet, this could be the one, can I also ask , the gloves you are wearing in this video, if these are heated which make are they and have you done a heated glove review video? Cheers
@Derek Holme they're the Furygan Heat Blizzards, which are battery powered. They're not the best I'd say though - hoping they'll be updated as the connection between the two is excellent. www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/reviews/products/motorcycle-gloves-reviews/tested-furygan-heat-blizzard-heated-gloves-review
@@bennettsbikesocial If you were wanting to have a look at new heated gloves, look at the Ixon IT range. You have an app that you fill in some data on and they will self regulate the temperature depending on how warm your hands are and what temp you set them in the app. My dad got a pair for winter riding and he loves them
I agree that previous Schuberth helmets were just not worth the money. I commute daily and do a lot of miles per year. Venting is extremely important. So I am very impressed with this review.
Only premium thing about Schubert is the price they charge, unfortunately being a slow learner I bought two and both times got disappointed by quality of the components/product.. Never again!
Top work as per usual, i've recently bought a C3 Pro, was on the market for my touring helmet, a friend of mine was having a pretty agressive price, i've nevere stood a chance. My first Schuberth, After 1 year and 20.000 km+ have to say it's really confortable, have a little trouble with my ear space (wearing glasses, earplugs and comunicator), so it took some adjusting there, the lining is amazing, after 1 very hot week (more on the ventilation in a minute) and 1 very wet week, the lining was not smelling. The noise is good but, i know a friend of mine who don't use earplugs and no complain ther, i do use them for longer stint. Only real down side is the ventilation, i can not feel air moving about inside, i've opened everithing (even the little bunny ear on the inside) and on the hottest day, like 38 C, some time you can feel air rushing in, some time not, like it hase some kind of regulator, but i was riding passo del Rest in heavy rain, i still didn't feel air moving about, but, the visor and glasses weren't steaming up. Now i've completely remove the chin curtain and i can feel a little air blowing around. So i do like that Schubert added some ventilation on this one, and the extractor! Plus do like the visor hold thinghy, will keep an eye out!
Good vid John, had a couple of schuberth, great helmet, now i have got neotec and neotet2 love them they are so quiet. I can't tell i have had it on when it's been on all day. 👍
I’ve got the C4 pro so was interested to see what had changed. I was hoping to see if they’d improved the exhaust ports as for me that is the only negative (quite a poor air escape on the C4). Look forward to the next review Thanks
I just really hope it is better quality than C4. With C4 I had: * Lost visor button * Chin went button sometimes gets stuck * Easily fogging in the rain and cold conditions * Neck lining gets soaked easily * SC1 sometimes turns off by itself. I feel something is off with connections * SC1 volume button broke (luckily timsons repaired it)
Thanks John great review. I once owned a C3 and the ventilation was diabolical. So much so that in heavy rain as a spectacle wearer I would often need to pull over to wipe the visor. That put me off of buying another one and only recently I brought a Neotec 2 which I quite liked but you know how it is you change your bike and the multicoloured helmet doesn't match so I sold it at a bargain price for the buyer. Ebay fees have got stupid. Given my new bike is a Harley I thought it would be " cool " to buy an Shoei open face helmet and the last time I wore one was back in 1968. But having only used it a couple of times I now feel that it doesn't offer enough protection which means that this helmet will be on my helmets to buy list. John I know the " buy a £10 helmet if you have a £10 head " argument but I have watched several reviews on YT in which far cheaper modular helmets get good reviews so do you think that top modular helmet makers are now over pricing their helmets. I mean my Shoei N2 was £599,99 and that is the price of a top of the range Arai , Shoei. Be interested to see what you think John.
You were right to be concerned about the Vynil logos being being on top and not underneath lacquer. I have had mine for a few months and half the "H" in the name across the front has vanished.
Great in-depth review. Please explain why the new design is much better (than the C4 Pro). Is it only because of how it looks or are there real aerodynamics/aeroacoustics advantages? Thank you
Unfortunately that's right - it's the SC2 for the C5. It's the same with many other integrated systems, but I do discuss using your own in here. Cheers, John
Nice review mate. One question that is never asked or mentioned. Whilst the helmet has custom fitting, there is no mention of how much extra it costs to do it?
I Love the Helmet. Its is definitely the best helmet I have had but as the integrated intercom gets a mention I have to say I hate the Senna intercom. Looking to upgrade to Cardo. The Packtalk is better and I hear that the Cardo Edge is even better
I have a Cardo fitted to the C5. Here are reviews of a lot of them... www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/reviews/products/motorcycle-technology Cheers, John
@@bennettsbikesocial Thanks John. I had the Packtalk in a Shoei GT Air helmet and I still have it lying around. It is excellent. I heard things in music that I had been listening too for years that I had never heard before thanks to the JBL speakers. There was alway adequate volume to overcome the ear plugs that I had taken to using. They are just rubber plugs on a string from Screwfix that I think are excellent (much better than the expensive Custom fit ones I made the mistake of buying (if only I knew)) so I was more than satisfied. The SC2 is a major letdown. If only I knew. I have asked for my money back on the SC2. I am hoping for a swap to the Cardo Edge which I hear is even better than the Packtalk.
I have the neotec2 find it very claustrophobic , so like 2 keep the visor opened a wee bit . But find the 1st setting is to much . Had to pack it out, also find if I push the chin curtain up let's more air in . So which do you prefer the most C5 or neotec 2 ?
I have the C4 pro and the r so things that really irritate me are the whistling from the top vent and the fogging uo of the visor if you wear ahead and face cover, the SC1 commis really cool and clear but as you say the SCOTTISH range of products are always pricey
Congratulations John on that really good review. Besides personally being a "new" Schuberth user and fan, i couldn't help notice that while riding you'we wearing what seemed to be heated gloves. Since i've been looking for a pair of those, could you please let me know which brand are they and model (if possible)? Again, many thanks for a well fantastic job done. Best, António.
Thanks! These are Furygan Heat Blizzards, but they're not the best heated gloves. Gets the review: www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/reviews/products/motorcycle-gloves-reviews/tested-furygan-heat-blizzard-heated-gloves-review
@@bennettsbikesocial Hi. Thanks for that fast response 👍 If you don't mind me asking, in your opinion, what are the best heated gloves (also waterproof)?
@Ant M Rod if you want battery powered, I like the RST Paragons, but they're not perfect. Keis and Gerbing do some great heated gloves. www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/reviews/products/motorcycle-gloves-reviews/rst-paragon-heated-glove-review
Looks a decent lid but just like Shoei the manufacturer feels the need to decide which coms unit I should use. Perhaps I just want to re-use my Cardo Packtalk Bold?
Hi John, great review, as always but does the visor have a 'cracked open' (also known as city position)? very few reviews seem to mention this feature. My current helmet, a Shoei Neotec II doesn't have this and I find that if I have the visor at its lowest, but open position, it's too wide.
Great review. Id like to try one. I have the neotec, agv sportmodular, c3pro and a rpha90s carbon. The rpha is my fav, so quite, better than the shuberth. Also light, 1530g in a large. I refuse to buy a 4lb lid in 2021. Sena 50 is rock solid now. Come visit us in the states. Just don’t ride on the wrong side of the road. Why do you guys do that? 🤣
I bought a C3 Pro before the Neotec II came out which I really made me wish I would have waited. It's time for a new helmet and the C5 does wow me more than the Neotec does, so I went ahead and preordered it (releases late June in the US). I am going to assume the Neotech III is around the corner, but I can't imagine it being much better than this. I plan to buy the SC2 as soon as I can order it here in the US.
I think they be neck and neck (no pun intended), each company is trying to outdo the other and getting better in the process. I would expect the Neotec III to be even better if you are willing to wait. It sounds like the C5 works very well for some and has been improved in many areaa. Whether the manufacturing and assembly quality control is there remains to be seen. Would love to hear from other C5 owners after they have thousands of miles with the helmet under their belt and can comment on its durability .
According to the manual using any other communicator means it does not conform to ECE 22:06. Does it matter ?? Dunno .... disappointing though I really like this helmet. Whilst researching for my new helmet I found that most of Shoei models that have Pinlock Evo can't technically be used at night, they even advise against it, ...disgraceful but does it matter??
Pinlocks are almost always supplied in the box, not fitted (this C5 coming with it on is a first for me). Most helmets aren't homologated with a Pinlock fitted, hence the manufacturer will advise against them to avoid litigation, despite suplying them. Yes, using another intercom will mean it doesn't meet homologation, but that's unlikely to worry the end user. Unless they make modifications to the lid like cutting or compressing bits, which is stupid. To be honest, it's a bit of a grey area right now. Brands won't risk saying 'Meh, it'll be fine', but time will have to tell what happens with aftermarket intercom sales in the future; the legislation for that isn't nailed yet, but for their own requirements, any helmet brand will only recommend the accessories it has tested with the lid, and they can't try every variation of comms, so will only homologated their own.
I have C4 bacic helmet , with 120 pinlock from the box , installad. Got it three months ago from FCmoto. I know ,that earlier consignments of the c4 basic had a 70 pinlock and filled spaces of the sena unit. But not any more. It's the same as the c4 pro but without the sena unit installed. Same canals for the headphones ,same everything, but i recommending to check your supplier first, if it's also true in your case Got all white ,for the hot sunny days and fogy winter blues.
The original C4 didn't have a Pinlock - it had no silicone bead, so was hopeless. If buying in the UK, personally I'd stick to a UK store for any warranty or support, but definitely great to hear you're happy with it.
@@bennettsbikesocial might not be the case , even for UK, since you probably taking about a very first consignment, which was a big mistake ( was labeled as ''C4'') , from many points, that's why after an ear(2018) they came out with updated C4 pro and Basic in 2020 versions ,without those fouls ,you are talking about. I understand ,that is very confusing many. ua-cam.com/video/s15sb-7RfCo/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Motolegends
I would like to ask for your help. first of all congratulations for your channel. I'm starting in the motorcycle world and I have an entry-level helmet and I want to upgrade. for a Schuberth or Shoei. does it make sense to buy the latest one or am I better served with older models of modular helmets? I already have a Universal intercom, can I adapt it to one of these helmets or just the brand model? Thank you 💪🏼
Both the Shoei and the Schuberth have their own dedicated intercoms, but I fitted a Cardo to the C5. If you can afford it, I'd go for the latest, ECE22.06 lids. Cheers, John
@bennettsbike Hey! Thanks for the great review. I just bought my c5 and I was trying to figure out if I can attach my spare Sena 20s to those clips you mention at 06:53 . I basically want to use the pre-installed speakers with 20s if it’s possible. Thanks!
If you check out the written review I have some more info there. Cheers, John www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/reviews/products/helmets/schuberth-c5-flip-front-review
Just bought one a week ago and already has to go to service because the visor is so loose that it closes itself at very low speeds (I ride a GS...). truly disappointed, a helmet this expensive should be flawless like my old neotec (V1). more comfortable though.
Would love to know from John or anyone else how well your C5 is holding up after more than one season of use. Is the quality there or is it a fragile tool that only works well when it is new. I get the impression, after hearing many of your stories, that the C5 has some cheap parts and poor assembly.
If one fits you better than the other, then that one, but personally, I find the ventilation to be better on the C5, so that's what I'm wearing most. Cheers, John
I'm going to spend some more time comparing that back-to-back before the full written review, but for normal riding it's absolutely fine. Vertical isn't an issue except for peering down at a heated vest remote control, but I need to check some more. Shoulder checks are fine, but there have been slightly better lids. It's not bad at all, but I need to swap between this and others on the road before i can be sure where it sits. Cheers, John
Thanks! I'm looking to upgrade to a 22.06 helmet soon, so it's great to see a review of this one. I appreciate that you showed the speaker connections - that was definitely one of the questions I had! I have the AGV K3 SV right now, and I've been particularly disappointed with the sun visor: it's really difficult to remove for cleaning, and it's stashed directly under the vents, so it's constantly dirty. Is there anything you can say about the visor in this helmet? Of the 22.06 helmets, what's your favorite so far?
I'd like the sun shield to come a little lower, but that depends on face shape. It is removable, but I must admit that I haven't been able to get it out yet. It shows how in the PDF manual but I couldn't suss it, so didn't want to force it. For all round versatility, this had to be my favourite 22.06, but foe a full-face I'm still a big fan of the Quantic. Cheers, John
Hi John . Hi all I’m fairly new rider to the bigger cc than a 125 I have just bought a Yamaha mt07 I love it as I love the naked style bikes . That being said we get hammered with wind noise . I have just tried out the rpha 70 and found that extremely loud . Not a common statement for that helmet I admit . I’m looking at this new c5 but wondered if anyone would recommend it for a naked style bike . Many thanks guys stay up right
Noise will vary massively from bike to bike, and flip-fronts do tend to be noisier than full-face lids. That said, I'm still working on the final review, and will try it on more bikes. I'd be happy wearing this on a naked bike, and whatever you're on, you should wear earplugs. Cheers, John
@@bennettsbikesocial thanks for your speedy reply John I appreciate that . Yes each to their own I suppose with helmet noise . I currently still use the agv k1 and tbh it’s not that noisy for a budget helmet . About 70 yes a fair bit . I tend to ride with ear phones on for my Satnav as I havnt got round to getting a hands free system hence why I’m looking to go all out with the c5 and the Sena .. so I’ve read this helmet is 85db at around 65/70 mph
This is the first time, for me at least, that I would struggle to answer that. The 'visor memory' of the C5 is great, and the venting is, I think, better. But it'd still come back to whichever fits you best. Personally, while this is only after 100 miles, and I've done thousands in the Neotec, I'd say the C5. Cheers, John
@@bennettsbikesocial Thanks John for the reply. I’ll have to go and see if I can find one to try on. (I have an original Neotec that needs replacing...) I look forward to watching more great content on your channel.
technical question Schuberth C5 sizing chart sucks. I am 58cm and L is too big. Can I buy the "oval head padding kit" for the size M and fit this to the L? the shell sizes are the same, but not sure if the inner fixed padding changes sizes or its just done with the changeable paddings. So I am asking can I change an L into M with a padding kit?
I can't see any reason it won't go in, but keep in mind you'll need to find somewhere for the mic. If you have the boom mic, it should tuck in behind the cheek pad. When I do the written review, I'll try a couple of options as I can show them in there. Cheers, John
@@bennettsbikesocial that would be super, the problem with past version was that the battery could not be insert and the controller does not fit on the side without a Dremel tool. I'm using a boom it's needed if you got direct wind on it
@@bennettsbikesocial great initial review! On the comms issue... if you have an option, could you see how the cardo packtalk bold works with this lid? A lot of people are using this set, so... would be a great info. Also, your thoughts on venting and glasses - so important and yet not always mentioned in reviews (not only for this lid but overall). All the best!
@@MickBla I think so - I am going to look more properly at it. The issue for any helmet brand is that the new 22.06 regs mean that any accessories have to be homologated with it, hence Schuberth incorporating comms into it. It looks like the owner of one could fit their own, but it will effectively void the homologation. Of course, there's risk for the brand as stupidity can't be legislated against, and people have been known to cut the helmet or even strap, and put self tapping screws in! A properly fitted decent intercom should go in fine, but I will have a closer look as soon as I can at fitting a standard Cardo and Sena. Cheers, John
Any thoughts on the shape/size of the chin piece of the C5 compared to the original C4? Tried a C4 pro, but they changed the chin shape and couldn't get the C4Pro to fit ... But, the original C4 fits like a charm ... Do want to try, when the lockdown over here is lifted, but would like some early info ...
Personally, I find the fit to be excellent, and a massive improvement on the previous models, but ultimately you'll need to try it on to see if it works for you. Cheers, John
@@bennettsbikesocial Many thanks!! Did try it today, but still found the hard plastic inside of the chin piece against my skin ... so, tried the Neotec II which was a perfect fit ... Again many thanks for the in-depth review & info!
On the previous models the helmet is to round to fit my oval head. Is the c5 adjustable to fit better for oval shaped heads or do I need to look at another helmet?
I didn't like the fit of Schuberth before this, so I'd say it's worth trying it. The custom fit well help too, but ultimately you'll only know after trying one. Cheers, John
It still makes no sense for me. Lack of MIPS is a big deal these days. It still only has 2 shell sizes so the actual helmet if you buy a small is huge and bulky. The sun visor isn't low enough either. Same problem on the C3 pro, C4 and E1. Because it doesn't come low enough it disturbs the vision. Pretty sure the AGV Sport Modular is also direct competitor.
I wouldn't put the Sport Modular as a competitor myself, having used one. The two shell sizes might be disappointing for those at the extreme ends of the sizing, but regarding MIPS, the fact that 22:06 includes an oblique test lends less credibility to that being an essential, especially given the other leading brands aren't using it either. www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/reviews/products/helmets/agv-sport-modular-flip-front-helmet-review
I love my C3 and I like having the stickers on top of the paint because I can remove them. Only thing I don't like is the sun visor because I have an asymetric head so it looks stupid and I don't want to look like a helicopter pilot.
A good question, but all brands keep their future launches a closely guarded secret. If the E1 sold well, a 22.06 replacement will be very likely. Adventure-style lids are pretty popular, so I wouldn't be surprised, but I wouldn't count on it just yet. Sorry for the vague answer! Cheers, John
I thought the Sport Modular was one of the most disappointing lids I've worn. www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/reviews/products/helmets/agv-sport-modular-flip-front-helmet-review
When I opened the box of the C5 Pro I ordered and put on the helmet, I could hear very audible "squeeking" noises with every move of my head - like the EPS was squeeking. Did anyone experienced that as well? I never had that with any of my helmets. Thank you.
My impression, based on a reputation built over 5 years ago, when I owned a BMW R1200GS, was the Schuberth helmets were of high quality. Was that reputation based on earlier performance of older models (like Mercedes or BMW cars) that have progressively worsened? Seems like the quality control wasn't there for the C3 and C4. Wondering if it's there with the C5. Have they finally caught up with the Japanese?
Hi I have the E1 flip front and no matter what i try when it rains water seems to run down the inside of the visor so in the rain basically you cant see a thing because you cant get your hand in to wipe it is there anything i can do or add to the top of the visor. Does the C5 suffer from this when you were riding in the rain. i commute right through winter so its a real problem and not idea to have to buy another crash helmet these this are not cheap. thanks
I was very unimpressed by the E1, but this doesn't leak. One of the first things I do is run a shower head along the top edge to check it (on some you can adjust the position of the visor plates to tighten it up), but this was fine in that, and out on the road for 200 miles so far, mostly in rain. Cheers, John
Has anyone else got problems with the super tight area around the chin? Mine is literary pressed against the chin bar so I can’t even open my mouth or breathe normally. Is this simply a size to small, or it’s sort of a common thing around Schuberth models? Coming from a Shoei GT-Air full-face I was rather surprised about this claustrophobic feeling in C5.
I thought the C4 was the way forward; both with flip up use and why I bought it the integrated com's. What a let down. I'm back with Arai and stick on Cardo system, OK no flip up but really who gives. Schuberth are big woolly pants, especially in the rain🙄
That takes care of that. Nothing my Nolan N100-5 can't do or deliver for far less money! But then again I don't need to compensate a tiny pecker with an expensive adventure Beemer and dito latest model Schuberth helmet.
@@bennettsbikesocial The best I've ever had, and I only paid £424, the RRP was £600! I didn't bother with the SENA SRL comms system, as it's over-priced for an old Bluetooth 4v1 system. It would be interesting to see an up-to-date comparison between expensive high end, and budget comms systems. I bought a Fodsports FX6, Bluetooth 5v0, comms system over a year ago, and it's been excellent.
Ive went to the shop to see C5 in person as I am really keen to upgrade from C4 Pro. However, I am not buying C5. Why? * You cannot get SC2 spare batteries * If you want a spare battery you need to pay £340 for whole unit * Even if SC2 battery were to came on their own - the build looks expensive * Essentially SC2 lost versatility and it is downgrade from practical purposes view * SC1 batteries cost £25 - have a bunch of them don't worry about running out of charge ever For me, the biggest reason why I keep using C4 is integrated intercom. SC2 is 50% more expensive and essentially without the ability to swap batteries. So that's a no from me on C5
The HJC 90S Carbon is a better modular helmet than Schuberth. And the new HJC RPHA 1 race homologated are way better than Schuberth helmets. I wonder if lately Schuberth R&D can keep up with HJC or Scorpion highest homologation helmets that cost as much as Schuberth standard helmets.
@@bennettsbikesocial HJC RPHA 1 Racing Helm is FIM Racing Standards and new ECE 22.06 homologated. The helmets are already available in Europe. See HJC Websites (for example Germany). And i own the HJC90S Carbon modular for 6 months. Cheers
I'm surprised you haven't referenced the existing Schuberth SHARP ratings? Four out of the five Schuberth flip front helmets tested only achieved three stars. The top scorer, the C4 Pro, managed just four stars. Five star ratings are harder to achieve for flip fronted helmets by their nature, but for a premium (priced!) manufacturer such as Schuberth, the ratings are disappointing. In contrast, out of seven Caberg flip fronts tested by SHARP, four achieved the top Five Star rating, with the remainder each awarded four Stars. The Shoei Neotec 2 has a four star rating BTW. Makes you think....
To be honest, the much higher standard of ECE 22.06 that this achieves makes it, to some extent, pretty irrelevant, as does comparing previous models as this is a complete redesign. Cheers, John

Hi there. I'm from Brazil. Thanks so much for that review. It gave me a good ideia about that helmet. Keeping doing this reviews. I give you my props.
A decent, honest, useful and practical test demo.
They should agree and industry standard fit that allows the buyer to fit whatever brand they prefer.
agreed on the intercom issue....so tired of the proprietary Apple/PC-like bollox!!

Good review! I've never been tempted by a flip front, but the effectiveness of the venting in keeping glasses from steaming up might just change that!
Glasses steaming up is my consistent nightmare!
I could be tempted by this lid
I love the Schuberth C4 pro and have two of them! Will definitely consider buying this as well. Thank you much for your review. Helps a lot.
Cheers! John
Always intrigued by Schuberth helmets but it's the Shark Evo ES for me. Only sun visor I've found that's actually dark enough and best of all fits a round oval head!
Great run down in your video - my additional comments - thanks
After 80K miles with my C3 - I decided to try the large 65 size - I tried one on and it felt comfortable right away - and I'm hard to fit in a helmet.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SHUBERTH C5 HELMET
The good
- very quiet with the outer visor fully down - quieter than the C3
- Good ergonomics on all of the vent controls
- Very comfortable
- The Internal Sun Visor is a bit longer than the C3 - providing better coverage. Also, when riding with the Outer Visor Up, on the C3, the wind hits the Sun Visor and causes the lower edge to buffet which is distracting - on the C5 lower edge of the Sun visor does not buffet as much and is lower, not in the direct line of sight which is a major improvement.
- Front Vents work great
The "a bit disappointing"
- As I have a Tall windshield I ride with the outer visor up quite a bit, With the visor all the way there is significantly more noise and buffeting than the C3. If I click the outer visor down 1-2 clicks, I'd say 80-90% of that noise goes away and the C5 is then only slightly more noisy with the Outer Visor up. (This may be due to the new shape of the top of the outer visor)
- The Top vent did not seem to work - maybe a tiny bit and significantly less than the C3 top vent. I plan to double check the top vent for blockages or if the vent is working - however, the slide mechanism feels normal.
- a bit warm due to ventilation
Summary - I just took the helmet out for the first time today here in Colorado - hopefully goes from "OK" to a "BIG WIN" with a little bit of time.
I am so happy you can pull the Logos off.
Especially handy when you paint your lid!
Thanks very much! I must admit I'm no fan of the E1. I do think you'll like this C5. Cheers, John
Brilliant initial review.
I thought an ECE22.06 modular helmet will be heavier, so I appreciate its weight (my Shoei X14 Snell is 1,615gr)
The cheek pads also much better with velcro instead of zipper.
The top vent also works superb. It feels like my X14 that has the best vents
Thanks for the review!
Thanks for the review, where you brought up other features that other videos on the C5 didn’t. TY👍
Thanks for watching! Cheers, John
Thanks, and hopefully with the custom fit you should be able to get sorted. Cheers, John

Thanks very much! All the best, John
Perfect timing, just about to look for my next helmet, this could be the one, can I also ask , the gloves you are wearing in this video, if these are heated which make are they and have you done a heated glove review video? Cheers

Great review as always.5oo quid is a bit salty though
I agree that previous Schuberth helmets were just not worth the money. I commute daily and do a lot of miles per year. Venting is extremely important. So I am very impressed with this review.
Thanks very much! Cheers, John
What a great mini-review, thanks! All the best, John

I just really hope it is better quality than C4. With C4 I had:
* Lost visor button
* Chin went button sometimes gets stuck
* Easily fogging in the rain and cold conditions
* Neck lining gets soaked easily
* SC1 sometimes turns off by itself. I feel something is off with connections
* SC1 volume button broke (luckily timsons repaired it)
@@MilesOrton Yes - you had to poke a bit of paper in there to pack the battery out!
Tried the C5, hurts my ears and the vision compared to the C4 Pro is limited. The C4 Pro is the best I had so far even better than my Shoei neotec 2
Is the C5 eye port larger than the shoei neotec 2 ?
Thank you
Intercom from the C4 pro doesn't fit the C5 ( I asked at the NEC show ) makes it very expensive to upgrade to the new lid,
Unfortunately that's right - it's the SC2 for the C5. It's the same with many other integrated systems, but I do discuss using your own in here. Cheers, John
Great review. Thank you. Waiting for mine to get shipped! Did you get the sena sc2?
Schubert's makes a very nice helmet!
I have the neotec2 find it very claustrophobic , so like 2 keep the visor opened a wee bit . But find the 1st setting is to much . Had to pack it out, also find if I push the chin curtain up let's more air in .
So which do you prefer the most
C5 or neotec 2 ?
Was just wondering the same thing. So, John, which do you like more and why?
I have the C4 pro and the r so things that really irritate me are the whistling from the top vent and the fogging uo of the visor if you wear ahead and face cover, the SC1 commis really cool and clear but as you say the SCOTTISH range of products are always pricey

@@danielkramer8586 I now have over 10k in the C5 with the SC2 system and I wholeheartedly love it.
Any idea when this is available for purchase in the States?
Sorry to hear that! Let us know how you get on
Would love to know from John or anyone else how well your C5 is holding up after more than one season of use. Is the quality there or is it a fragile tool that only works well when it is new. I get the impression, after hearing many of your stories, that the C5 has some cheap parts and poor assembly.
You say you use Shoei Neotec II. Which, in your opinion is the better and why???

Excellent video, how do you find the change in visibility vertical and peripheral? That's a new visor shape for Schuberth.
I'm going to spend some more time comparing that back-to-back before the full written review, but for normal riding it's absolutely fine. Vertical isn't an issue except for peering down at a heated vest remote control, but I need to check some more. Shoulder checks are fine, but there have been slightly better lids.

How does it compare to Shoei’s Neotec? Which would you prefer to have?
This is the first time, for me at least, that I would struggle to answer that. The 'visor memory' of the C5 is great, and the venting is, I think, better. technical question Schuberth C5 sizing chart sucks. I am 58cm and L is too big. Can I buy the "oval head padding kit" for the size M and fit this to the L? the shell sizes are the same, but not sure if the inner fixed padding changes sizes or its just done with the changeable paddings. So I am asking can I change an L into M with a padding kit?
I was wondering if you can try and fit a cardo slim on it. We are all using the slim and shame is that it didn't fit the c4
I can't see any reason it won't go in, but keep in mind you'll need to find somewhere for the mic. If you have the boom mic, it should tuck in behind the cheek pad. When I do the written review, I'll try a couple of options as I can show them in there.

My c4 pro is the most comfortable helmet I have ever owned, never need earplugs
Any chance a new intercom will be able to answer whatsapp calls? again, not something the previous model was able to do
It still makes no sense for me.
I wonder what brand of gloves you are wearing
Furygan Heat Blizzards. Here's the review: www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/reviews/products/motorcycle-gloves-reviews/tested-furygan-heat-blizzard-heated-gloves-review
With the visor closed but whilst moving do your glasses fog up? (If it was raining and you needed it closed)
Nevermind just got to 10:58 and you said with it closed but the flap open it cleared so happy days
Damnit and again sir at 12:31, I've just subscribed, thanks for the glasses comments
@@AdamBingham Thanks! All the best, John
I love my C3 and I like having the stickers on top of the paint because I can remove them. Only thing I don't like is the sun visor because I have an asymetric head so it looks stupid and I don't want to look like a helicopter pilot.
Funny, the only reason I got into biking is so that I could cosplay as a helicopter pilot, Airwolf-style.
Will they be doing a E1 replacement on the C5 platform?
A good question, but all brands keep their future launches a closely guarded secret. If the E1 sold well, a 22.06 replacement will be very likely. Adventure-style lids are pretty popular, so I wouldn't be surprised, but I wouldn't count on it just yet. Sorry for the vague answer! Cheers, John
@@bennettsbikesocial thanks John. 👍
How does it compare to the AGV sport modular?
I thought the Sport Modular was one of the most disappointing lids I've worn. www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/reviews/products/helmets/agv-sport-modular-flip-front-helmet-review
When I opened the box of the C5 Pro I ordered and put on the helmet, I could hear very audible "squeeking" noises with every move of my head - like the EPS was squeeking. Did anyone experienced that as well? I never had that with any of my helmets. Thank you.
I bought a C4, the build quality is like Childs toy made in China.
The C5 really is a world apart from the C4
My impression, based on a reputation built over 5 years ago, when I owned a BMW R1200GS, was the Schuberth helmets were of high quality. Was that reputation based on earlier performance of older models (like Mercedes or BMW cars) that have progressively worsened? Seems like the quality control wasn't there for the C3 and C4. Wondering if it's there with the C5. Have they finally caught up with the Japanese?
😡😡😡😡Just removed the Shuberth C5 from box , first ride , totally disappointed , the visor is loose and can't stand open even at 40 km/hr speed 😡😡😡😡😡
Does the visor stay up at 50mph+? I know C4 pro doesn't which can be super annoying
Sorry for the slow reply! I checked this morning and at 75mph it stayed open at any position - fully open, half or cracked. Cheers, John
Still uses a ratchet strap instead of a double D ring. My biggest complaint about my C4.
On a touring helmet, it's what the majority prefer as it's so easy to use with gloves on.
Late to the party: Yes. With the intercom fitted I have to remove the mic sock because there is not enough room.
I thought the C4 was the way forward; both with flip up use and why I bought it the integrated com's. What a let down.
I'm back with Arai and stick on Cardo system, OK no flip up but really who gives.
Schuberth are big woolly pants, especially in the rain🙄
The C5 really is a very different helmet to the C4 so worth a look. Cheers, John
That takes care of that.
Nothing my Nolan N100-5 can't do or deliver for far less money!
But then again I don't need to compensate a tiny pecker with an expensive adventure Beemer and dito latest model Schuberth helmet.
It'll be a few years before I buy a C5, my brand new Shoei Neotec II Respect TC10 arrived this morning!
This doesn't stop the Neotec II being a great helmet! Cheers, John
Why?
* You cannot get SC2 spare batteries
* If you want a spare battery you need to pay £340 for whole unit
* Even if SC2 battery were to came on their own - the build looks expensive
* Essentially SC2 lost versatility and it is downgrade from practical purposes view
* SC1 batteries cost £25 - have a bunch of them don't worry about running out of charge ever
For me, the biggest reason why I keep using C4 is integrated intercom. SC2 is 50% more expensive and essentially without the ability to swap batteries. So that's a no from me on C5
I run a Cardo on the C5. I've also got intercoms that are 7 years old that still don't need new batteries.
I’d take a C3 Pro before any of the newer options including the C5.
I'd suggest trying one before you decide.
Once there are ECE 22.06 versions out, we'll have a look. Cheers, John
@@bennettsbikesocial HJC RPHA 1 Racing Helm is FIM Racing Standards and new ECE 22.06 homologated. The helmets are already available in Europe. See HJC Websites (for example Germany). And i own the HJC90S Carbon modular for 6 months. Cheers
@@THEREALZENFORCE hopefully well see some 22.06 modular helmets from HJC soon.

Shuberths build quality has not been great and it is a lot of money to be a beta tester again.
£500 for a lid? No way.
