  • Back for beaver dam # 3. I have been here for about a week now and am starting to feel the burn. It was another good day for critters. If I didn't have the camera in my hand, I bet I would have caught that ruffed grouse on the road. Plus the garter snake and raccoon were pretty cool. It was a good sunny day, now one more to go!

    Were the upright sticks areas where beavers were trapped in the winter? Also is the stream a creek or a river? Love your nature shots too.

    • @geneplumley4136
      @geneplumley4136  Рік тому

      Great question. 👍
      Yes, we'll not quite. I had been there about a week previous to this video. That's how I get so many pictures of animals. I spend a lot of time out there. The 🦫's get trapped first. If not, these dams would be built back up in a couple of days.
      I would call it a creek. It has no name, and the only reason it looks so big is because of the 🦫 dams. It runs for quite a few miles and drains into a small lake. Poor Lake got a big dose of 🦫 💩!

    • @NiceLoki
      @NiceLoki Рік тому +1

      I was wondering exactly the same thing, they look just like the same set up on a previous video where you showed us the trapped beavers.
      How many did you catch at this one?

    • @geneplumley4136
      @geneplumley4136  Рік тому

  • @dalehalliday3578
    @dalehalliday3578 Рік тому +1

    like you said, where to begin? That one didn't look huge, but there were thousands and thousands of sticks. And mud. So no trapping of the beavers on this one? Just trying to drain some of the water away from the farmer's fields?

    • @geneplumley4136
      @geneplumley4136  Рік тому +1

      Hi Dale. 👋
      There is trapping on everyone. If not, these dams would be built back up in days. I am usually there for a week before the dams get pulled. #4 is the big one ,👍.
      There are hay fields alongside this water system. Also, that bridge needs protection. When the water gets high, it undermines the foundation. I believe it is actually getting replaced at some point.

    • @geneplumley4136
      @geneplumley4136  Рік тому +1

      Hi Henk, 👋
      Good question.
      I do this for the local government here. The places I am at are considered municipal drains. Meaning it is the towns responsibility to keep the water levels low. This is due to farm fields, roads, culverts, and peoples homes. I hope to get a drone eventually to better show this.

  • @NiceLoki

    What do you do with the beaver meat and pelts?

    • @geneplumley4136
      @geneplumley4136  Рік тому

      I actually eat quite a bit of the meat. It is really good. It's very close to beef but lean. There is very little fat. The rest goes for dog food. They love it. The pelts & castor glads get sold at auction. Skulls and teeth go for crafts. The only parts that go back are the guts, which the minnows make short work of.

    • @NiceLoki
      @NiceLoki Рік тому +1

      @@geneplumley4136 that is amazing, you use so much of them. Are their bones suitable for dogs to chew on or are they too brittle?
