Tried this version yesterday and it's a great resource! I.e: I prefer dwm and the script for selecting qtile or hyprland is customizable. If you or anyone is interested in grouping windows functionality, and a shit ton of magic/special workspaces try this out. The wiki said the limit is 4 or 5 digit numbers(for magic ws) so go crazy! Add to the config:

Hi. You can enable multiple monitors by adding an own custom monitor configuration variation. The creation of a variation is explained in the video. And then you can add a multi-monitor setup as described here: wiki.hyprland.org/Configuring/Monitors/

Thank you for sharing and doing the ground work and providing scripts to automate install of the system. I have just completed a fresh install and seems to have issues with time out or sleep power mode. If I leave the PC on untill power save I cant wake the screen up again. I'm left with a pinkish screen, moving the mouse of hitting keys doesn't wake it up? I have to powerdown the PC. Where do I find the power saving utils?
This is unfortunately an issue with swaylock on some systems. Have you installed the 2.8.1RC1?

Can you check the scaling of the monitor configuration?
Im going to be using this soon. The only annoying thing i have is when switching themes, flatpak software breaks theme sometimes and defaults to libadwaita. That has been my only issue i have had every time i use hyprland. Hopefully, that is fixed as i dont want to use nwglook every time to change the theme when themes for flatpaks break. I love your dotfiles, and i hope to try this at some point with a minimal arch install.
Thanks for your feedback. Changing themes between different platforms and ui frameworks results in side effects. Difficult to solve.
A quality update as always! One thing I'd like to warn you guys about is if you have an existing installation of these dots (i.e. 2.7.x or earlier) and you have multiple workspaces enabled you might have to tweak a setting if you have multiple (2 in my case) monitors like I do. If you have more than one display I suggest changing "all-outputs": true" to "all-outputs":false in the waybar modules json file... otherwise workspaces seem to be shared across displays. That's my only gripe that I had to figure out, and I'm glad I did because that was a tad annoying. lol.

I love everything your doing, but i'm not a big fan of how your bar looks and i'm not sure how to costumize it myself, so i switched to JaKooLit dotfiles, are you able to create a similar bar please, i would prefer to use your dotfiles, thanks so much for all your hard work.

hi, i want to ask, what should i do or change if i wanna change the default shell to zsh (already installed zsh and copy config from .bashrc to .zshrc, and run command "cshs -s /usr/bin/zsh" but still the default shell is not yet changed). Any help would be amazing

i just moved to hyprland from kde, so i dont have a fresh install, i wont use the dotfiles i will configure from scratch to get to know hyprland, but i must admit this project is damn nice!!!

Hi Stephan, Loving your videos and work. The dot files look awesome. I'm going to take my custom arch system and reload with your dot files. One Question: I have bad vision been working on computers since the early 80's. On my Mac I have a wonderful scroll zoom function that I push the alt/opt key and scroll with my mouse wheel to zoom into the whole screen. Once zoomed moving my mouse up, down, left, or right at the edges of the screen moves the whole screen in that direction. I have searched far and wide and not found anything that will do this on Linux that isn't really old or clunky. That is one feature that would move me to Linux full time. Are there any options that work with an arch system with your dot files? Again thanks for your hard work. Making Videos alone is a full time job I don't see how you find the time to do all this amazing stuff. 😉

But I have tried to optimize my video production workflow as good as possible. ;-) Just started a short research about your mouse wheel zoom feature. wiki.archlinux.org/title/IMWheel Foudn something for xorg but currently nothing for Wayland Compositor. But I assume that wayland should do this be nature. But have currently no idea how to integrate it.

I am into the 2.81RC1 version of dotfiles now. Everything is fine and good. I have noticed one problem, which I would like to share with you. After about an hour of inactivity, ( I have not switched on swaylock), the screen goes blank with an orange color. There is no response to password or any other key activity. Mouse remains unresponsive. I had to hard boot the computer. This has happened twice now. Can you suggest what I should do? Thanks.
Swayidle and Swaylock cause this error on Hyprland. That's why I have decided to replace it with hypridle and hyprlock. I have just release 2.8.2RC2. It would be great if you could test it by running the install.sh script. It will ask to install these packages.

Hi. Works on Endeavour and Arch and you can install it on a minimal Arch installation based on archinstall and also login via tty.

But I have got one small problem,since installing my sound has stopped working,no sound from media players or videos in browsers,running speaker-test gives the errors "Unable to set hw params for playback: input/output error" and "Setting of hwparams failed: input/output error".
I also have Xfce installed on this Arch install,which I was using before,if that may have something to do with it?

Thanks for the reply,yes it is installed,along with wireplumber etc. and the sound was working in Xfce.
I'm not really sure where to start with trouble shooting this,I'm using a Topping D10 USB DAC into a vintage Technics amplifier,and the volume and mute are greyed out,and no profiles are showing.
I think I will try with a clean install of Arch,which would be better with no X11 apps cluttering it up.
Got it working now,have a spare SSD that has Arch KDE installed on it,was going to wipe it and install something else on it,but updated it and gave it a try on that rather than wipe it,and everything is working now!

No. Currently not. Not sure if swww supports animated wallpaper.
If you set way bar theme to default then I can’t open the welcome menu again. Also would be nice to sort the themes in top/bottom
That's correct. You can start the welcome app over the terminal with ml4w . The sorting is a great idea. Need to check how to achieve this. Maybe just renaming ;-)
How to upgrade if I am already on your prev version of dot files.. Just copy pasting the dot files on specific folder is enough?
No. Please pull the latest version from GitLab and run the installer again.

That's a good point. Can you try to start blueman-manager from the terminal?
are you using chatgpt from a browser or is it an app?
It is Chromium. The launch command is chromium --app=chat.openai.com
What specifically ties this to Arch Linux distros only?
Very good question. I would say definitely the installer and some of the scripts like checking for updates etc. i see a chance to port the dotfile to other distros in the future.

Fixed my own problm. In thunar select edit then Configure Cumtom Actions. Hilight Open Terminal and select the gears. Change Command to alacritty --working-directory %f

in manjaro for some reason, takes like 5 minutes to start the waybar and sometimes it doesn't. on a 12c24th 32gb ram desktop.. :-/
Can you try to reboot your system. Have you xdg-dektop-portal-gnome installed?
@@mylinuxforwork it was fresh installed Manjaro kde, used timeshift to get back.. Just tried EOS fresh with kde and it works like a charm.. So, I'm testing things out on EOS and I'll report back

Please add swww when installing, because using your configurations I observed the absence of an image on the desktop, by the end of a long search problem
the problem was the absence of swww
swww is part of the installation. Maybe the installation failed on your system.

Also to add , Creating custom action to open Thunar as a root works thunar is no opening after providing credentials on the prompt.When i try to open it through ther terminal i get this error "thunar: Failed to initialize Xfconf: Error spawning command line “dbus-launch --autolaunch=c18e79b839074b2d802f38348bea087b --binary-syntax --close-stderr”: Child process exited with code 1 Authorization required, but no authorization protocol specified".

I’m having this super weird bug where when I leave my laptop be and I don’t move anything for a while the screen goes right pink and I can’t control anything and have to reboot the laptop just to continue working, is there a fix for this?

I fixed the error, I had to disable warlock and it fixed everything, so that was an easy fix but wasn’t expected, I was just messing around with customization and decided to disable warlock and it fixed everything I’ve had issues with

Can hyprpaper replace swww
There is currently an issue with the AUR package swww to setup the wallpaper in the dotfiles. It's not compiling correctly during the installation procedure. You will not have a wallpaper after the installation. Please install after the dotfiles installation or update version of swww with:
sudo rm /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/swww-daemon.debug (if the file exits)
sudo rm /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/swww.debug (if the file exits)
yay -S swww-git
Will update you as soon swww has fixed the issue.
I would love if snapshots was inculded in grub. I have killed my system 11 times as i figure out linux. I use btrfs so snapper is my imagr backup tool.

I'm using pretty much the standard settings of obs. Installation can be done with sudo pacman -S obs-studio

In which file have you changed it? Are you in a VM? Maybe your monitor/GPU doesn’t support higher rates?

Swww not working
There is currently an issue with the AUR package swww to setup the wallpaper in the dotfiles. It's not compiling correctly during the installation procedure. You will not have a wallpaper after the installation. Please install after the dotfiles installation or update version of swww with:
sudo rm /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/swww-daemon.debug (if the file exits)
sudo rm /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/swww.debug (if the file exits)
yay -S swww-git
Will update you as soon swww has fixed the issue.

For the mouse pointer to show up again I had to add an environment value WLR_NO_HARDWARE_CURSORS
Appended the line env = WLR_NO_HARDWARE_CURSORS,1 to file dotfiles/hypr/conf/environments/default.conf and a system restart.

I replaced an existing dot files setup with yours. I have an issue though. I couldn't see the mouse pointer. Its invisible but working. I hope the existing setup is overlapping with the latest install. Can u please help?

env = WLR_NO_HARDWARE_CURSORS,1 to file dotfiles/hypr/conf/environments/default.conf and restart

You can also select the environment variation gitlab.com/stephan-raabe/dotfiles/-/blob/main/hypr/conf/environments/kvm.conf?ref_type=heads in the settings script. Or create an own variation for your environment variables to be save in case of dotfiles updates.
