I wouldn't say he knows the ultimate truth just as we dont have the ultimate truth. We all have our own version of truth. You are right in pointing out that such behaviours are not just caused by troubled childhood. There probably would be more complex reasons that elicit such horrific behaviour. The thing that we need to understand is that morality is not exclusive to homosapiens. Every social mammals has their own set of moral codes that are better suited to their survival. The surprising thing is much of such moral codes overlap in every social mammals. Thus giving morality an evolutionary foundation. So joker might be right but it's still damn hard to undo the conventional morality because conventional morality is better suited to our survival. Thanks a lot for such a detailed remarks. Firstly,"in a span of minutes" is a bit of exaggeration, he will surely need more time.
Secondly,Joker is known for creating situations where killing him is ultimately a psychological victory for the joker and not killing him is a physical victory for the joker. So thanos can neither kill joker because he don't wanna lose psychologically and he can't let him live because that will lead to a physical loss so thanos has no option but to ultimately GIVE UP and move on.
