    FYI - you are in England where the intensity of the light is quite different than in the southern US (I'm in Florida). These crotons are EVERYWHERE here and our local nursery has given us some invaluable information about them. While they should get light daily, in bright/hot sun, these plants actually don't do as well in terms of not producing such high intensity of colors than if the plants received partial sun or are place in a bright but shady spot. Your plant is completely normal in producing green leaves at the top. They will eventually turn to the more vibrant colors as they grow. You can also prune these to make them more bushier. As new leaves start to form at the very top, pinch them off. It causes the leaves below to grow bigger and sprout out in more areas than just the top, giving the plant a fuller look. :-)

      I've just pinched the top of mine, only very tiny leaves though. I have a long stem also with lots of little flower buds that knock off really easily. Should I chop that off?

      I too am in Florida (north central) we had an unusually bad frost and all the leaves browned. Should I remove just the leaves or cut them? They're young, only 18-20 inches tall. Thank you 😊

    I have three crotons and they're all so unique. Petra loves the direct morning sun exposure and is thirsty all the time, I have to water it every two days even now in the middle of October. If it gets too much direct sun, the three green leaves at the top will droop a little, then come back up in the afternoon (east-facing window). The Banana Croton is fairly non reactive, the only issue I've had with it is that it absorbs the water very slowly and the soil can stay wet for too long. Same thing happened recently with the Gold Dust. I decided to change the soil thinking it was going to develop root rot and now the leaves are drooping like crazy. Definitely does not like being disturbed.

    In my home country, we'd just leave them outside all year and they'd be FINE. I got my own croton now after I moved to a temperate country -_- I've had it 2 days and it's already being a diva. Bright light, but can't be against a window. Moist but we'll draining soil. This is a lot.

I put them on the porch this spring and some of the color faded due to not enough light. So now I’m pulling them out for a few hours of light.. Just wanted people to know how big they can get 😍

    New croton mama here. Your video is extremely informative 😊 but I am looking for help pruning to create a bushy plant. My twins (not sure if they are conjoined yet) currently reside in a set up very similar to your flat mates croton child. I brought him home in September and he recently dropped many leaves. He now has bare legs sticking up and I’d like to cut them back in hope of them getting bushy.

    Hello hello please can you tell me why I have the leaves dry at the end trying to cut them off from trim them a little bit today I still see some dryness on the leaves and I have it in the east window but not too much sun and it’s only in the morning So why the leaves it was doing good in the same spot every day I seen the leaves not the new leaves it dry the bottom leaves from the tip let me know please and thank you

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  2 роки тому

      Dry leaves is usually a sign of too low humidity. Do you know the humidity of the spot it’s in? At the same time, older leaves will die off eventually so a bit of drying around the bottom isn’t really an issues. I’d only be really worried if the new growth or newer leaves were having issues

    These plants seem to be climate sensitive. Here in North Florida, the leaves will turn a bright yellow if exposed to direct summer sun. They are also very thirsty, must water at least every two days in this climate. I have them potted in the front of my house, but they have to be moved to keep the sun from damaging them. They seem to love the extreme humidity here as long as they are out of the sun.

    Great video!! Super informative :) I have to move my croton soon and it needs repotting... I'm so nervous it won't like the move. It's summer now should I wait to repot and see how the move goes?

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks! Hmmm thats a good question. Repotting and moving at the same time could cause quite a bit of stress for the plant. So I'd probably say wait until next spring so it doesn't have a bunch of stress at once. Can it wait that long?

      @@GoodGrowing I thought so, I don't know if it can wait that long for repotting. The roots are popping out of all the drainage holes. That's how it came from the greenhouse. I think we will move and see how she fairs and then maybe repot a little sooner if it goes ok! Thanks :)

      make sure you wait for the soil to be dry to about an inch before watering, don't overfertilise as it may cause a nutrient shock(maybe wait for a month or so for this guy)... and just make sure it's humid and warm but no drafts. hope you have luck keeping it alive :(

    I just got a Croton. I didn’t notice damage to 3 of the leaves before I bought it. Looks like someone deliberately stuck their nail in them. Should I cut them off? I don’t have many leaves to begin with, and the pokes are on the prettier color leaves.

    • @WitchesRule
      @WitchesRule 3 дні тому

      Frist thing Crotons are sensitive to overwatering. Normally when a plant's leaves are wilting this means it needs more water, however, if you notice your Croton leaves are wilting, you may be watering too much. If the bottom leaves of the plant dry out and fall off, you are not watering enough.

    So the whole "Joseph's Coat" thing comes from a Bible story in which Joseph's father had gifted him with a very beautiful and colorful coat that all his brothers were hating on and eventually was essentially the last straw before they decided to throw him in a snake pit and leave him for dead. Wonderful story.
