Saul Bellow is the writer of this story. I came across Saul (yes, first name basis because he is my friend) while taking a Holocaust Lit class, which I dropped out of because I chose to pursue my own goals, but I am extremely grateful for having been introduced by Prof Cappell at UTEP. This story came at a time when I was also quarreling with my sister, so the plot is a very dear sentiment. However, the ideas about how we assimilate into a new environment and the stress it takes on a family is the main idea of this novella. I recorded this on my iPhone while working a lonely night shift at a homeless shelter and into the next morning before class, which is where the birds came their entrance, and I think they add a real nice touch, especially at the end there when Dr Braun opens up to the workings of the universe and allows his life to take meaning or, upon interpretation, allow himself to be meaningless--perhaps a reflection of the sentiment during the Holocaust, the nihilism of how one would have approached a smoke-cloud day.
    Please read more Saul Bellow.
