Can only imagine how insufferable it would be to have a lead role in a show built around a friendship that includes someone you wouldn’t even want to be friends with
I mean Jamie and Adam from Mythbusters didn't like each other but still kept a cordial work relationship. So it's definitely possible that (haven't seen the video yet) they did something similar.
It is a job at the end of the day. They didn’t have to work together. I will admit I am glad the show existed since it has always been a favorite of mine.
I love how Charlie absolutely DECIMATES his keyboard whenever he types. Like I envision the keys flying everywhere as his fingers punch through the entire thing, sparks shooting out of it as he leaves holes behind all throughout the keyboard.
Jennette McCurdy's mother wasn't just highly controlling, she was also physically and sexually abusive to her from an early age through her teens, even through all of ICarly. It's the reason she has no good memories of the show and doesn't want to return.
Its actually absurdly fucked up that they would make Sam a glutton with an abusive mother while Jennette McCurdy's had an eating disorder and her mom would constantly abuse her
@@enotsnavdier6867 Nah I think I'm just biased because I grew up with Rocko and Zim and shows that had actual creativity. Also there's something about a laugh track on a kids show that made me hate everything.
I remember watching that episode of Drake apologizing to Josh as a kid and was so damn sad. Weird that they could hate each other and have such great chemistry on screen.
Crazy how people at work don't have to like each other to complete tasks. Wild how teammates can win games in sports without liking each other off the court/field. But most shocking of all is this one!! ACTORS ACTING in a show and not liking each other outside of there acting roles on screen 🤯🤣🤣
I feel so bad for Jennette McCurdy. Through that whole generation of memories we all had she was suffering, it's hard to think about and so unfair. It also sucks that Nickelodeon will never really pay for the behavior they allowed and the monsters they still enable.
There is another video that disproves this one. Drake and Josh continued to hang out a lot after their show ended, and even multiple times (on camera) after the wedding. Yet Josh claims he never hung out with Drake before or after the wedding (which is proven false by their vlogs together after the wedding). I am not saying they were super close, but they were definitely what most would loosely define as "Friends"
Jennette has said on her podcast that she worked with an emotionally abusive producer who would yell at the cast and tell them if it weren't for him they would be working at yogurtland. She never said it was Dan but you can put 2 and 2 together.
Yeah, especially with reports of him being controlling and shit. Also, yogurtland doesn't even sound real. That sounds like a location made up for iCarly or something. Dan's probably the one behind all of most of his shows as producer, director, etc. Even scripts, probably.
this is all while she and others were literally early teenagers (13,14,15) so they absolutely wouldnt be working anywhere if not for the lack of child labor laws in relation to television. shit was so fucked
There’s nothing wrong with just saying “we used to be great friends, and I’m disgusted by who he turned out to be.” Like…by blatantly lying about ever being close it just makes Josh look weird lol
I’m guessing he’s just really trying to disassociate and distance himself as far away from Drake as possible because of the shit he did. Definitely agree with your idea
With who Drake Bell is, anyone would want to distance themselves from him. Doesn't make him weird "Ah yes, I'm friends with a sex offender!" Would you wanna say that? No, didn't think so.
@@skechyassmofo There's "I'm no longer associated with this person after finding out what they did" and then there's "I was never actually friends with this person despite the overwhelming evidence that I was". People who were associated with them and benefited from said corruption would do everything they can to pretend they never as much as had lunch together, when in reality they were fully aware of what was going on and benefited from it. The normal reaction would be to say you're no longer friends with them. The odd reaction would be to pretend you were never friends with them in the first place.

Oh, I didn’t know he was trying to help her, I thought that was to mock her. It’s a little better imo if his intention was to help. The road to hell is paved in good intentions. He’s still a bad guy outside of that situation, though.
Seems a bit odd to suggest helping someone's eating disorder by making their character obsessed with food. Of course that wouldn't have helped her cope with it lol.

Like in rob's case he did the majority of the work for the show for years and then big just doesn't want to do it anymore. I can see how someone can be upset about that, while the show was built around their friendship Rob dedicated just as much time building that show to what it was.

One thing that stuck with me is that, Drake looked at that reboot script, saw himself portrayed as a loser and a failure in his ambitions, and _that_ wasn't what he criticized. But the stereotypical cartel stuff was the line in the sand. Say what you will about Drake, he fucked up _badly._ But seems like he was okay with being the punching bag, just not pissing all over his audience.
I know man, becasue he wanted to respect his Mexican audience, and that is commendable! Oh btw, most of the accusations are thrown off the court and he is apparently not guilty. But he has to be careful from now on. And he has to move on from Josh and see the person of who he really is.

I never knew McCurdy and Sam were so alike. The character Sam had an eating disorder and an awful mother. Must've been pretty awful for her to play the character.
And just like ghoulish that the writers actually ridiculed their own child actors for their own traumas like what the fuck, to an audience of other children and we just all thought it was ok. That whole show was just so fucked up.
Ok, dan schneider being the damn creep he is, is obivious But mccurdy and sam being so alike, is just straight up disturbing, and the child actors being ridiculed for their traumas is just only further proof that nickeloden is an alternative to hell
Well, iCarly was a great show and relating a character with very important and emotional subjects to the actor or actress is a big part of making it feel real even if it's nickelodeon. Sad that things had to be too real here, though. There's the episode where they go to bail her mom out of jail, but I'm sure McCurdy would've preferred her to stay there.
Jennette talked extensively in her book about “the creator” (Dan Schitthole) being emotionally manipulative and insanely creepy. She sites a lot of f’ed up stories about him on set and how made a kid cry when he fired him, he used to take her out to one on one dinner “dates” and pressure her to drink and say gross creepy shit to her all night. He even told her she’d only get her own show if she did everything he ever asked of her…. Fucking nasty. There’s a lot in there and the book is a great read, especially if you’re as fascinated by the twisted underbelly of the entertainment industry as I am😅
I wouldn't say I'm fascinated by it as it's more disgust than anything but I really am curious as to what the fuck is going on in hollywood to where so many people are pedophiles. I also wonder how many of the celebrities I enjoy hearing about are actual child diddlers.

17 minutes in and it just sounds like josh was depressed as hell growing up. if he did suggest the josh and drake show than itw as probably a "im finally above you. i finally am not the butt of jokes as the fat kid" situation.
Not saying josh is justified, but he was probably bullied and made fun of constantly or the joke of every joke for the longest time and has a lifelong grudge against that era and everyone involved.
He wrote a book called "Happy People are Annoying", wherein he basically describes his distaste for being the butt of the joke all the time as a result of being obese. He claims that while it was cool sometimes, it was more of a job to him than anything, especially given how poor he was and how little the show paid after fees. You can imagine having your cringey, overweight childhood become an international sensation.
Drake is definitely an incredibly creepy dude but Josh seems like he's a pretty bad guy also. Like Charlie says there's just something about Josh that doesn't sit right.
Agreed. He could just release a statement saying they use to be close. I don't really know how hard it would have been to say, "yes. We were super close then I found myself slowly drifting away and there was no real reason. It was just because I felt we were outgrowing each other but we tried to reconnect; it was okay but it was not the same as when we were kids. Maybe it's just that we weren't the same people anymore but then the news came out and I can no longer support him anymore at all. I'll always treasure the friendship we had but I don't see myself being friends with him anymore" I don't know! Was that so hard?! Am I crazy?! Oh well.
Honestly as a kid I remember watching Drake and Josh and just never being able to get through the show without getting so heated about the way the characters treated Josh. I'm not so surprised to hear that they really didnt get along in reality.

When you look at how actors who play those roles tend to change as they grow up (slimming down, refusing to let people joke about their weight), you see a lot of misery. I don't doubt there was a lot of bad blood between the two.
My personal assessment from observing this unfold on the interweb over years is that Josh is simply taking the path of least resistance the way he answers the questions about their relationship; like it’s important for his own image to maintain the facade
Or simply that he understands that the mystery and back'n'forths between the two is what was interesting to begin with. To keep this up is what keeps the interest going as well (in the end a win/win for them both), a magic trick is only amazing if you don't know how it's done.

Although I didn't really watch Mythbusters a whole lot (I'd seen a little bit of it and they seemed to have a fun chemistry), it is kind of disappointing to learn that the co-hosts didn't get along. I just read an article on it and with how much they admit to having in common and how similar their minds and interests are, it's surprising that they didn't become friends through that. They clearly deeply respected each other, yet they somehow didn't even like each other. I guess I could understand if it came from political disagreements or something like that, but otherwise, it's hard to imagine being on the same wavelength as someone else on so many levels and not considering them a friend.
The fact that you don’t feel like Joshs eyes match the energy of his mouth when he smiles doesn’t surprise me at all. I feel like there was something off about him as well after he lost all of that weight. You’re totally right though. His eyes are not happy when his mouth is trying to convince people around him that he is. I feel like there’s a deep rooted depressed victim from being bullied and not having a father.. that depressed victim overtime only turned into something essentially that is only coming to my mind as what would be stale anger or something. An anger that is so old that’s been lingering for so long that most have gotten somewhat okay around it and slowly forget which is messed up and sad. Stuff like that could be super dangerous.. hopefully he doesn’t have a twisted side to him. That’s all I’m gonna say Edit: I just wrote this right before I see how Josh wanted to remake drake and Josh as Josh and drake
Losing weight is weird. I don’t have experience with it, but I have discussed the feelings people have after losing weight, and it’s very hard to deal with. Suddenly, everybody is paying you attention and they are giving you compliments whereas before, you were just “that chubby kid.” You feel like your worth is tied to your weight, and you go through a lot of complicated emotions and self image problems.
9:50 I'm glad Charlie said this because there's something fucking diabolical in Josh's face but it feels so weird because he's just a guy, it's nothing more than a gut feeling but it's so strong
I can imagine having a very public childhood framed as an unattractive looser who's the punchline of most jokes while your co-star was the cool lady's man ...... would do some very messy things to your ego. I don't know if he's got an "evil side," but it would be fair to assume he harbors some serious resentment. I probably would too.
That's what happens with these high school TV shows. They keep this hierarchy mentality. If you ain't the guy, you just the guy under him. Guys being guys, it leads to egos clashing. When in reality, those guys exist but they don't consume the entire school. I don't even know who the cool guys were at my school, I remember just a bunch of fights between blacks and Hispanics. We had about 3 riots in freshman year, and 2 in sophomore.
@@nonyabusiness2032 It sucks, but it's true. It's also the burden of a public childhood vs. an average childhood. EVERYONE makes fun rather than nobody caring. Your high school sounds like what mine would have been, if I didn't move to the newly developing suburbs in Arizona. But the high school experience I got had a pretty clear hierarchy of cool kids vs. dweebs. The lack of violence or bullying between groups made us care less about it, though. We just kept to our friends and ignored everything else.
9:53 when you say he smiles but his eyes don't. It's crows feet. You can tell if someone's smile is genuine by the crows feet around the eyes. If they don't, it's a fake smile.

@@ronaldjustin518 yeah these two things go together. As you say, when the corners of the mouth go up towards the corners of the eyes, they create lines and folds around the edge of your eyes. These are called crows feet.
Man… I used to rock Alien Workshop and DC because of Rob Dyrdek and Bucky Lassik when I was a kid. They were the one brands I would actively keep track of and wore. It’s crazy to see how successful he ended up. With an acumen like that he deserves his wealth and I hope he will eventually sit back and enjoy it with his family. Also never knew about the stuff between him and Big. I’m really glad he was able to be friends with him and make things okay before he passed away. That’s some really great stuff.
What makes the concept of “josh & drake” having drake a failed musician even worse is that drake is actually a musician. If it was just a character for the show it’d be funny but like Charlie said, it’s super evil to dance on the mans failed career. (Even tho I’m not saying drake had a failed career)
@@jrendon137 I honestly didn't even know there was a reboot that would have been fucked to have him be a failed musician after everything they went through in the show
3:50 - I read the entire book. There is a single time that she mentions "Dan" when they are sitting at lunch together but the rest of the time she refers to him as "The Creator" or "The Director". There are a few creepy scenes in the book where he's giving her a shoulder rub or offering her her own show but overall he didn't do anything overtly awful to her if I remember correctly. He even comments how the Icarly cast is "too wholesome" and "needs to get drunk like the victorious kids." Last thing I'll say is once the allegations really came out, there was a point where he couldn't physically interact with the child actors so they had him in a "director's box" or a room off stage and he would write down what he would change about the scene and have the note passed to the cast. The also offered her an estimated 300K to "keep quiet" about her time at Nickelodeon.
I get the feeling Josh suffers from Depression. The "smiling yet their eyes aren't smiling" is very reminiscent of people who are functionally depressed and have gotten good at faking happiness.
Bro I’ve always thought josh was always more evil than drake. Even though drake portrayed more evil tendencies it was out of his ignorance where as josh seemed to plan his mischief
I honestly get the same vibe from Josh as Charlie, for some reason I feel like the only reason he smiles at all is because it’s socially polite and friendly. I get the feeling if it were socially acceptable never to smile, we would rarely ever see Josh smile. He seems like a naturally stone faced person that constantly forces a smile, almost like it’s painful for him to maintain.
I mean he did write a book called "Happy People are Annoying" lol! But I think it could just be his face, eye and mouth shape. Most people in our media, their eyes crinkle upwards when they smile. He's got a different eye shape, his crinkle downwards which changes a major part of smiling. My mouth is shaped similarly and I look like I'm faking whenever I smile, my lips get scrunched too much and top lip spread too thin. He's also got a long face so there's a big distance between his eyes and his mouth. On the other hand, he always *ALWAYS* shows his gums, top teeth, and a small part of his tongue when he smiled. Like it's always the identical smile, always a bit of tongue showing, no bottom teeth, even from decades ago, which definitely lends to your theory that he only does it because it's socially polite. It seems like a practiced smile if he always does it the same way. So maybe you're right. I dunno, I spent too long looking at this man's mouth.
He feels like he's constanly playing character. I remember years ago I catched one of his videos on my recommended and immediately recognized him, but then every video I watched from him he felt so fake. It was kinda creepy.
Yeah I'm glad it wasn't just me noticing this. Maybe it's not necessarily that he's hiding something evil, but he definitely does put up a mask when with other people
I've always said Josh had something Erie about him! He seems extremely two faced and kind of like Kenneth Copeland how his eyes look like something else is in there lol
Can only imagine how insufferable it would be to have a lead role in a show built around a friendship that includes someone you wouldn’t even want to be friends with

She cute and intelligent.

Jennette McCurdy's mother wasn't just highly controlling, she was also physically and sexually abusive to her from an early age through her teens, even through all of ICarly. It's the reason she has no good memories of the show and doesn't want to return.

Working with friends is so hard. It can bring out the worst in each person. I’m sure there was a personal rift that had nothing to do with the money.
I can imagine Drake's path from young man to grown adult was beset with fangirls and positive affirmation, while Josh was the "chubby comedic relief".

He seems like a naturally stone faced person that constantly forces a smile, almost like it’s painful for him to maintain.
I get the same feeling from David Dobrik. Maybe it's just that group.
That would actually make alot of sense
@@blasphemous9693 yup he always felt fake somehow. Probably why he became a successful UA-camr lmao
I feel the same way about Josh. There's something of about his face. I can't help but think about it every time I see him.
@@MrSeanman30 it's actually crazy how just by looking at someone's eyes we can tell so much about a person
Josh...I always thought he was a sweet, handsome kid. Even as an adult, I still think so....But I do agree...Just something about him...
"Hug me brotha!"
"Hug yourself fuckhead"
I'm dying💀🤣
Such horrors to look into the eyes of Josh and have something look back.
I can understand Josh wanting to distance himself from Drake after he pled guilty, but lying about their previous friendship is not a good look.
