    As a person who knows nothing about a original Duesenberg except for the value here's my take: Doors open, no velvet rope barrier, no guards, people touching it. It's a replica.

    Finest car ever built

    That's a Duesenberg II...
    They reopened the company and hand built these to order... They started back up in the late Seventies and these cars were around $250,000 apiece back then.
    Of course they ended up being even more expensive because the reformed company had no idea that the re-created parts would be so expensive.
    Apparently, someone could order any body style that they wanted... Recreations of the standard and custom bodied cars from the Thirties.
    If I'm not mistaken, these were built on long bed Ford F-150 chassis... And most were Ford 460 powered, although a few had Chevrolet big blocks in them.
    I do know that every part on the car is an exact replica of those that were used on the original 1929-1936 cars...
    The Volo Auto Museum has a pretty extensive collection of these... The man that owns the museum was a Duesenberg II Dealer back at the time.
    He has a replica of the magnificent Duesenberg "Twenty Grand" that's probably the most impressive Duesenberg II ever built.
    Cheers!

    The Duasenberg was a straight 8 with 4 exhausts on one side. the pipes on both sides shows that it is a V8.

    This is a beautiful car. I can't believe that there is anyone who would not be thrilled to drive it.

    Everybody agrees that it's a replica ... which few of us could afford. An original in that condition would set you back million$

      Judging by the other cars in the garage, I don't think this person could afford a real one.

    Easy to say: Replica. Real one does not have exhaust pipe in both side of bonnet. I believe, this is the same car, that was for sale some years ago at Hyman Ltd. But anyway, very nice replica in visual terms and more suitable price tag.

    easiest way to tell any replica is to look at the engine . this replica has exhaust pipes coming out of both sides. no original duesey had that

      Right. Only supercharged Js has the pipes on right side only.

    Replica. Took about 10 seconds to figure it out. The dash is definitely sub-par. The rest of the car is very nice though.

    This is a replica as it has exhaust pipes on Both sides... A real one had only exhaust pipes on one side... this one has a Ford V8 ?
    A real Duesenberg had a 8 in line & exhaust on one side... but yes, it looks nice...

  • @walterbeech
    @walterbeech 11 років тому +4

    Probably because the original was a straight eight and the replica is a V8.

  • @reelreeler8778

    It's a Duesenberg replica, but unlike many replica cars that are not proportioned correctly and are generally silly looking, this replica is stunning. This particular car is most likely a "Duesenberg II Royalton" which were made in the early 1980's, and were powered by Ford 351 V8's.

  • @1940limited
    @1940limited 3 роки тому

    Originals had no pipes on the driver's side and only one tail light. The interior shot doesn't show the pedals. No clutch would also be another dead give away. Still, it's nicely done.

  • @christopherjohn8521

    Beautiful car. Replica I think. The dash board shouldn't have been brushed aluminum. Not in a Duesy.

  • @sanclea

    Also, there are no pipes on the left side of a real Model J Duesenberg.

  • @lunachester3056
    @lunachester3056 6 років тому +2

    It is a replica! The most obvious give away is the pipes on the driver's side... Just like with the other replica cars they INCORRECTLY put the pipes on both sides, when they only belong on the passenger side not both. However otherwise that is an absolutely exquisite automobile!!!

    • @DougCameraMan
      @DougCameraMan  6 років тому +2

      The replica builders know the original just had pipes on one side but they do both sides for looks .... neither side's pipes are functional on the replica so it's all for looks anyway.

    Why would a Deusenberg "replica" put pipes on both sides of the car??

    • @123carguy123

      Because it has a V-8 in it. Real ones had Lycoming Straight-8's.

    @sanclea 13 років тому +1

    Very well done and cool for sure but it's not an original but a Duesenberg II. I believe the wheels are 18 inch and not the 19 on the original cars which is the first give away (along with the instruments).

    • @TheOneTrueKaliban
      @TheOneTrueKaliban 6 років тому +1

      That was what gave it away for me. The steering wheel and instrument panel are way off model.

    An impressive piece of eye candy; but., the exhaust pipes on the driver's side are the giveaway for any true enthusiast. Left side of the engine is the intake on the Lycoming straight eight thus, no exhaust pipes necessary.

    If they go through all of that trouble, why the hell not put the right engine in it. Or at least one that's close? Instead of a boring ass v8. Stupid😑
    Does it have an auto trans too?😐

    • @1940limited
      @1940limited 3 роки тому

      Yes. But the video doesn't show the pedals. Lack of a clutch would be another dead give away as to a replica.

    • @pow44pow
      @pow44pow 2 роки тому

      You said why not put the "right" engine in it?? Just where are you going to get a spare Duesenberg engine? A Straight-8 Buick or Packard would be a bit more attainable, but not more desirable than the more reliable and supportable V-8.
