  • We came across this clip from an old and long out of print Interurban Films video featuring Illinois Central steam on the Kentucky Division in the mid-fifties. Enjoy!

This really has sound on film? What an incredible find. Who knows what other treasures you have.

Correction, it was Interurban films that issued it. The station scene is Ft. Knox, Ky. Other shots are in the Shively/Valley Station area. I think one scene is climbing Muldraugh Hill.

This video is excellent. I saw a lot of this “ Mainline of Mid-America “. Raised In Crosby , Mississippi on a subsidiary railroad , The Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad. Now abandoned. It’s difficult to find information on this road. The Y. & M.V. RR used Illinois Central Mikados , Berkshires , GP-7 , and GP-9. All high hood , cab at rear. Also , a few stray passenger trains. Mardi Gras traffic ! Thanks for these beautiful sights and sounds. That Chocolate/Orange varnish was absolutely impressive. A feast for the eyes and ear s thanks again!!!

This is film shot by the late Vit Uzoff (sp?) which I think was released many years ago by Pentrex.

@@SouRwy4501Productions It's actually a 2-10-2. If you look closely you can see it has Baker valve gear (notice the setup of the power reverse), and the number on the tender is in the 2700s, neither of which were features of the IC 4-8-2s. Only the 2-10-2s had both Baker valve gear and numbers in the 2700s. I actually had a hard time believing it's a 2-10-2 at first since it's going unbelievably fast for one, and the footage isn't even sped up!

The Illinois Central rr had an impressive variety of steam power, I wish that they would have preserved one example of their 2600 class 4-8-2 types along with a 2-8-4 Berkshire type engine as well.

They actually did preserve a 4-8-2, number 2542.

@@StephenSantangelo-hh5ic638 was better than 382 because the 4-6-0 got into so many accidents where as the 2-8-0 had a good record and was Casey Jones’ favorite locomotive.

What good is it to have sound and to have someone to keep talking through it.
