    Exactly Aiden O'Connell came in at a disadvantage because they know they're not going to run the ball. So they're just going to sit back and wait for the pass. And he still did good. I fear that Aiden will start when the season is pretty much over

    As a retired Qb coach and OC, anyone that has watched the All 22, and still says Minshew should be the starter than I question your sanity.
    Your first play u went over in this video is versus a single high safety. U will notice the safety is leveraged to the left hash. It’s a pre snap read to look off the safety and keep him leveraged with a look to the out to Adams. Then u pull the trigger on the Y seam route to Mayer. It’s an old West Coast concept.
    Minshew displays over and over bad eyes and footwork. This last game he was really bad.
    Sadly, a lot of Raider fans and more unfortunately AP really thinks Minshew isn’t playing bad…..it’s beyond concerning how blind some are 🤦🏻‍♂️

    • @mikeronald3812
      @mikeronald3812 Місяць тому +1

      Right but it's a cherry picked play. Minshew has dropped back 100times and completed 75% of his passes. Every qb misses guys. That line is also not dependable so that's gonna weigh on any qb. Raiders are on pace to have the worst running game in NFL history at this rate. Gotta be able to run the ball. Raiders are #2 in the NFL in first dons through the air. MInshew is moving the ball.

    • @j.michael
      @j.michael Місяць тому +2

      @@mikeronald3812 I was just explaining what the read was on that one play Mike. That Y seam concept is basic 101 for an NFL Qb. Minshew had no idea where to look! 🤦🏻‍♂️
      I was at every practice in training camp. Minshew did the same thing he does in every game….hits the 4 yard dump off and so his numbers look good but there is no pop to the offense because he struggles to see the 2nd and 3rd level concepts consistently. Sometimes he sees them. Sometimes.
      Running game no doubt needs fixing to help Minshew out. But Minshew isn’t close in most reads because his eye discipline and footwork is so bad.
      I like Minshew, but his tape is frustrating to watch. U can’t believe the stats, u have to watch the film. Tape never lies.

      @@j.michael I understand BUT MInshew has completed 12 passes for 20 yards or more. That's 2nd best in the NFL. Only 1 qb (Purdy) has completed more passes over 20 yards and he has 13. Minshew is tied for 4th in the NFL with passes completed over 30 yards. Last year he was in the top 3 with passes completed over 40 yards and top 3 in passes completed over 50 yards. I'm sure this will surprise most people.

    • @j.michael
      @j.michael Місяць тому +1

      @@mikeronald3812 excellent points Mike. Stat line can be convincing indeed. An example of what frustrates me but also falls in the category of a positive play on the stat sheet is the dump off Minshew hit Mattison with. I believe it was the 3rd quarter…..Carolina for whatever reason doesn’t cover Tucker at all….Tucker runs a 20-25 yard Stop route….there isn’t a defender with 10-15 yards of Tucker from the time of the snap. Minshew is looking in his direction, stares His direction….then for some reason goes into avoid the pass rush mode….and eventually flips a hook shot toss to Mattison as he is falling down. Mattison who was in pass pro takes the improvised toss and runs for a 15-20 yards.
      The stat line shows completion for 15-20 yards. Film shows a Qb not being able to see an easy big gainer and makes a routine play really difficult.
      Minshew does this much too often. He does have his moments. But Minshew who is now on his 4th or 5th team has never really had bad stats. Just when he is in, the offense will be very limited in the passing game. The most consistent thing about his game is his high volume of dump offs that can turn into big gains at times.
      Great points by you though for sure 👍🏻

    Dude Minshew has completed 74% of his passes - top 5 in NFl. He's 6th in passing yards. 2nd most first downs through the air in the NFL. 2nd most passes competed over 20 yards in the NFL. Defense has only got 1 turnover - bottom of the NFL. They have the worst rushing attack in the entire NFL and they are on pace to shatter the worst rushing attack record in NFL history. Anyone can cherry pick plays. Colts had a bad defense last year - gave up the most points in the entire AFC and MInshew was 9-6 with the Colts and they had a poor receiving group. Pittman had a career year and Downs set the Colts rookie record for most receptions by a rookie. You HAVE to be able to run the ball or teams will never respect play action and Minshew thrives in play action. The O LIne is awful. Minshew is on pace to get sacked twice as much as he did last year. Gotta wake up and see the forrest through the trees. MInshew is a good qb but ya gotta protect him and be able to run.

    1st play: Devante isn’t really open. Would need to be a perfect pass and if it’s not it’s 6 so not the worst decision. He does panic but and he should have just hit Brock but complaining that he’s not hitting the out is crazy. Play 2: pre snap alignment would make gou believe that the curl from Devante is not open. It’s not his first read and with the backers showing the middle of the field being wide open he checks it down (PS you need the all 22 to actually understand the dynamics of the play and why he checked it down rather than throwing it to his first reads. Dont cherry pick plays if you don’t have the full picture) Play 3: pressure wasn’t in “in his face” and it’s a high ball. Not a bad play by any means and it does prove your point that yes, AOC wasn’t just playing prevent, but it doesn’t show me that he’s good Play 4: honestly an all around great play by AOC. No complaints.
    I am a fan of your videos and appreciate your perspective which is why I’m saying this, don’t make film reviews w/o A22 and without showing the good and bad of both sides.

    Thanks for the shout. I dig your work. Gardner is a good back up because he plays great when the defensive game plan isn’t designed to shut him down, but the book is out on him. Make him play from the pocket and he’ll beat himself. Judging off the initial announcement of Gardner starting, what I heard was that Aidan just wasn’t ready. Knowing that pierce doesn’t mince words, it sounded like he was giving Aidan another month to learn the system. Gardner has much more experience learning nfl offenses. I believe Gardner was made the starter as a placeholder until Aidan is ready. After all, pierce said both quarterbacks would play. He wouldn’t say that if Gardner was the unquestioned starter. Exactly right! That’s what we all saw unless you were listening to all the BS. I’ll take 2 interceptions and 2 sacks in exchange for 3 touchdowns in the first 3 quarters. If Minshew could do that I’d support him but he’s a backup at best and actually he’s our second back up because we have a wide receiver who is a better qb.

    I am not so much down on Minshew, as simply seeing AOC as having a higher ceiling.
    Being more experienced (and mobile) probably gave Minshew an edge in camp and the pre-season, learning a new system, so heading into Game 1 it seemed like the right thing to start him. I expect he has until about halftime against the Browns to validate that decision, or it's back to AOC for the rest of the season.
    At that point, Getsy will become the one under scrutiny.
    It's a shame we let Hardegree out the door. Retaining him, at least as QB Coach or Assistant OC (assuming he would have accepted the demotion) would have helped provide continuity, especially for O'Connell.

    First off great breakdown of the film, Second I agree AOC is a better QB cuz he has more zip on the ball, is able to go through reads and progressions and isn't afraid to push the ball downfield. Lastly, I think the decision to start Minshew is coming from above AP's head by Telesco to justify giving Minshew all that money just to be a back up if AOC starts. Keep up the great content brotha

    • @shortestwidereceiver
      @shortestwidereceiver Місяць тому

      It took 2 whole seconds for that ball to Meyers to travel 15 yards. That is roughly 15 miles an hour, that isn't fucking zip. Aidan is better for us because he wont manufacture his own pressure, but hes just as prone to stupid throws and wide misses as Gardner is. Both of these two throw like theyre playing catch, not playing NFL football. Also 4 plays is hardly breaking down the film, you can go watch Tape Don't Lie for that, and you don't even need to pay for it to get more than 4 plays worth of analysis.

    With that being said, I agree with your breakdown of minshews failures, and I also believe that AOC should have been the starter from day 1.
    But using the reps he got in garbage time isn't exactly relevant.
    Carolina was 100% playing prevent defense. The defensive formation isn't what makes it prevent defense. It's the intentions behind it that make it prevent. The idea is to not give up big plays and keep everything in front of the defenders. And to allow the offense to use up time by completing short passes, rather than a quick score.

  • @rollen901
    @rollen901 Місяць тому +1

    Can’t tell me these coaches don’t see these films. I just don’t see how they can choose minshew over Aidan unless it’s purely money based and not skill based. Aidan is much better. • @R8Rnation2769
    @R8Rnation2769 Місяць тому

    Minshew needs a couple things to happen for him to be successful. He needs a clean pocket and a throwing lane. If he doesn’t get those two things he scrambles, because his height inhibits him from seeing the field clearly. So he always always scrambles to his right and now the whole design of the play has been compromised and now he has to make a play while on the run. Half the time it might work but he’s also done serious damage to the team itself because he’s a turn over machine. Aiden therefore won’t be doing any of those things to hurt his team.

    I appreciate your great insights that are validated by film recordings. They are based upon facts/hard evidence rather than emotions & opinions. 1 added item the favors Aiden over Gardner is that Aiden was a rookie last year, but Gardner has played in the NFL for 5 full seasons, thus he has 5 x as much experience as Aiden, yet Aiden displays more mental acuity/alertness that does Gardner, as you have proven here. Imagine the future proficiency level of Aiden after 5 years; after 7-10 year! 😃🏴‍☠️

I wish Bears would have kept him and took the haul and started Bagent. 5 of Bagents 6 interceptions were great throws, and 5 we're caused by bad route running. It’s hard to be able to run the ball if you have 0 threat to be able to throw it down field, defenders can load up and come down hill when they know the ball won’t be pushed down field by Gardner, also I think people underestimate AOC ability to make calls at the line along with his ability to be able to look off defenders instead of starring them down the whole time just to not throw the ball.

    I’ve watched the all 22 from last week I haven’t watched the panthers game yet but from what I’ve seen I do feel like Getsy’s offensive architecture is not bad, I think we can question the commitment to the failing run game but on pass plays they are well designed plays. I think GM has been ok but he doesn’t play consistently within the timing and structure of the play. Aiden isn’t looking to use his legs and as a result he makes quicker reads, decisions, and throws and plays more consistently within the structure and design of the offense.

    Thanks for the breakdown of Aidan in play performance. BEING AN NFL QB TAKES MORE THAN SAYING HIKE AND PASSING THE BALL. You have to think and use subtle movements(6 years in the league he does nothing a veteran should do). Gardner doesn't have the solid fakes on play action, he doesn't look off players, his consistent precision/ strong arm is below average, he doesn't pre snap and his post snap looks too fast & unprepared instead of film study and actual practice. He not fast enough to scramble and he doesn't manipulate the pocket to run thru a gap(he's not fast enough, also), he STILL THROWS OFF HIS TOES AFTER BACKING UP🤬, His eyes leave down field or they get locked on a target, his drop backs are 2.5 steps(He backups 2 feet then does a half back step throw.
    Aidan has bad pocket manipulation, he's really slow, he's not familiar with top defensive minds when they zone blitz, he has little experience as a real NFL starter to be considered better than Andy Dalton but he just needs more practice.
    Lastly, his deep ball accuracy is below average and his
    But Aidan can look off players, he can throw over players(LB)instead of straight line passing like minshew. His arm can reach all parts of the field; out/corner/post/siem routes. Aidan has better footwork and pre snap read and more continuity with Tucker and Adams and Meyers. And his play action fakes are really good for a rookie(he fully extends and hides the ball and doesn't rush the fake)
    I'm giving Minshew until half time vs browns to get us 2 TDS or he's being replaced for AOC.
    If he scores at allegiant the next drive. The crowd will roar and feed our team.
    Aidan will be the starter going forward.

    On the first play you showed the defensive lineman put his arm up and really Minshew's arm is not strong enough to make that throw all the time. That could have been a pick 6. In real time that pocket is collapsing much faster than slowing things down and pausing. His #1 read should have always been Bowers who in space is a nightmare. You get him the ball fast enough right there that might be a TD. Minshew knows his limits. One of the main reasons the Raiders can't run the ball is no one respects his arm. O'Connell can make those throws and in the off season actually improved his arm and ball velocity. To be fair sometimes he sails it. No matter who the QB the offensive scheme needs tweaking. The OL needs tweaking.

    Excellent breakdown and use of fan comments.
    I've said it since preseason. Minshew wouldn't allow the run to flourish bcuz defenses don't respect our deep passes. Similar to Jimmy G last yr
    If you can, please post up all of Aidans passes.
    And for the haters, he had no use of the run game, so Panthers knew he was passing. And to score a TD with a predictable offense, tells you Aidan is a good passer. It was not prevent defense
    And on that TD, Aidan threw to a spot. Not waiting for Tucker to create separation.

    The coaching staff and front office made a business decision and started Minshew because they overpaid to bring him in and Aiden is on a cheap rookie deal, Talk about business decisions. Minshew didn't do anything in the pre-season to warrant getting the start over Aiden but Aiden didn't grab the bull by the horns either but should have got the nod for helping AP get the damn job. So much for loyalty.
