- Beekeeping can still be iffy in the spring. My bees clustered last night and I filmed them on a thermal image camera early in the morning to see what they were doing.

Whoa, you made it all the way down here! Thank you ♥️ Love you - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
My suggestion for your con is turn the phone upside down.
Last time, I looked at thermo imaging , the prices were so expensive, they were so far out of affordability.
Knots in the wood will make it look like a hot spot. Handles are thinner.
can you rotate phone so that the ir camera is on top ?
This is a great question to be asked on the livestream tonight, 7pm Central Time: Here's the link: ua-cam.com/users/livefI_qVqcF0BI
Can you hold the phone upside down? This way your fingers don't cover the lens. I don't know if it works that way
Can you turn your phone upsidedown, so the camera is on top? Will the image also turn 180 degrees?
Very nice camera David. If you turn your phone will the infrared Camera orient/flip the image?. Minus 6 C in eastern Canada but the bees flew this afternoon when it warmed up to plus 7 C thanks
FLIR brand has ones for the phones that are like that one (the one I have) and one that is Bluetooth that you don’t have to physically connect to the phone.
Did you have to set anything? Any knobs that you have to turn?
I just installed my package of bees. Everything was great, there was few bees that flew everywhere and I plugged the entrance off for 24 hours. I also fed them banana cause i didn’t have pollen patties(nothing went wrong in regards to the banana attack rumor) today I removed the plug and there was no activity/I couldn’t really hear the bees inside… should I be concerned before I open it up in 2 days?
I have a couple of IR cameras; the downside to the "phone attached" type is that if the phone technology changes (and their connectors do) then you have to keep an old phone around to use with it. That means upkeep with the battery, too - so you better either be able to afford replacing the battery or be able to do it yourself. This is the case with my phone attached version (SeeK) that's USB-micro, as where my new phone is USB-C. I also have a "gun" type that's all-in-one, and while it's a bit big and clunky, I don't have to worry about connectors (other than charging it.) It has a few features (like a regular camera that can be faded in to the thermal image) that the little phone one doesn't. I bought the phone one years ago for around $200 and the gun one for around $300.
I have one and also a Fir C3. They are really handy. Really nice when doing a cutout removal of bees from house or building. You can tell exactly where you need to make cuts. Works in trees as well if they aren't too huge.
Good video 😊 Thanks for sharing 👍 Always Enjoy your videos
good information thanks🐝
Great Video David, it was 22 degrees this morning at 6:00 am, currently 48 degrees, bright sunshine, clear skies all day. Some bees are flying bringing in yellow and orange pollen on their legs. Frost expected again tomorrow morning, then 60 to 70+ degrees for the weekend. HAVE A GREAT DAY!
Awesome 🎉
Cool video and a great diagnostic device for the hive! It’s great especially when it’s cold out.
I’m sorry if you’ve answered the question before, but do you check on your hives more in certain seasons than others?

This is fantastic video. How cool. Thanks Dave!
Thanks for this review David!!! My husband and I have discussed getting something like this
I want one of those cameras so bad. Would definitely give peace of mind during/after the colder winter days
Hay I love your channel and videos. You show some awesome hacks too.
I looked and could find anything on their website. Do you know if they have an IOS version for the newest iphones? The iPhone 15 has usb-c charger port.
Hey they were nice enough to let you give one away. We should buy one ty
First time beekeeper. After 5 years of research, I decided to start my first hive. It's been 5 days, and the bees are doing great flying, collecting pollen. Just noticed a lot of dead bees in front of the hive. Anything to worry about or just the natural process of life? I will be entering this weekend for first hive inspection.
Just installed my first 2 packages of bees on Monday!!! Videos were very helpful!!! Both hives have Burns screen board feeders with your recommendations on sugar water and additives!!!
How do you become a member of the channel?
Thank you for the information, David
I was wondering if you could answer one question
Picking up the nucs Saturday from you
Can you tell me how long they need to stay 20 feet apart?
When we place the nucs in our yard
Sorry this Saturday is PACKAGES Pickup only! Nucs are available some time in Mid May
Hey David, I was listening to your livestream from yesterday; there was a question about a swarm caught; they used a queen excluder to keep the bees in there, and how long to leave the queen excluder. I don't believe I caught a timeframe answer. However, I just caught a swarm last week and checked the hive a week after catching them. I believe this swarm had a virgin queen in it because there were no eggs after inspection. If the person asking that question had used a queen excluder for around 10 days, if the swarm had a virgin queen, that queen potentially would never mate. Another possible option for caught swarms, instead of queen excluders would be to put a frame of brood in the hive with the swarm, anchoring them to the hive perhaps?
Oh, $250 ... much cheaper than a flir.
My flir was $200
Wow, prices came down a lot then. They were $2000 plus when I was looking at them.
I’m sorry if you’ve answered the question before, but do you check on your hives more in certain seasons than others?
On spring time you want to ✔️ to see they’re trying to swarm on you. So it’s take 2 weeks “16” for a new queen to hatch, they’ll swarm few days before that most of the time so queens won’t any fight. So every other week is the most time you should leave your hive unattended on swarm season, weekly is ideal, after swarm season is over 2 weeks or monthly. Then at mid summer it comes out a pollen lees dry time it’s call “dearth “ you need to ✔️ out that your bees don’t consume all the storage they been working so hard year round.. plus that is a critical time for other 🐝to start Robbing 🐝🐝. A guard reduction is recommended at that time.
