Chandler Riggs wasn’t old enough to legally hold a rifle on television until this episode
I did not know that wow
From what I understand they spent a long time shooting (then they’d need to for the scene) in celebration
Fun Fact: The night they filmed the scene with Rick & Carl was when Carl had his birthday Right at midnight he turned old enough in Georgia to be able to use a real prop & shoot blanks which is one reason that scene always holds a special place In a lot of fans hearts & why Rick looks at him the way he did.
This was Hershel’s best episode hands down
Felt so bad for Hershel at the end. He lost so many friends on his watch that not even the Bible could help him find comfort.
This is one of my favorite episodes of S4
Rip to all the characters who got the flu and passed away
Hershel was a badass this this episode
Rick and Carl’s father and son moment killing walkers was epic
I love how Rick looks at Carl He can see that Carl has changed Carl is now a young man perfectly conditioned for this world and he can take care of himself It’s like Rick sees he’s done his job.
Bcz he actually turned a young man from a child in real world
Music choices in the show are top notch Love the song in this episode.
The virus running through the prison and the pigs is different than the "walker virus"
Fun facts on this episode: Carl(Chandler Riggs) was finally old enough to shoot a real gun, i believe it was his birthday day it was filmed. Scott Wilson(Hershel) at his age did all the stunts himself in this episode.
While Carol’s decision to kill Karen And David wasn’t her’s alone to make this episode highlights a good reason as to why her idea to mercy kill and try to eliminate the threat was a much kinder death than what the poor people who died from the symptoms went through.
The reason why Hershel didn’t want to kill the people who died from the flu is because he didn’t want people to see the outcome of what happens and lose hope and think to themselves That could probably be me and We’re not gonna make it.

This episode really shows how the apocalypse challenges everything Hershel believes in. He started as a stubborn religious man who lost his family to the apocalypse and stayed in denial about what was really going on. Finally Hershel changed and put his trust into Rick to protect his daughters and saw how ugly and unforgiving the world has become. They finally build a community at the end of season 3 and in season 4 things finally got as close to normal times before the apocalypse and some other illness wipes out over 50% of their community. His entire world view is shattered, at the end you can tell how much his faith in religion means to him and see how hard he tries to be a good person but he is only rewarded with death, pain, and suffering. I think what Hershel is going through mentally would be enough to break anyone.
Not really a show spoiler but you find out how Hershel lost his son in the first Walking Dead Telltale game and that is why he was so closed off and in denial about the world in season 2.

Hey Fun Fact the scene with Carl and Rick with the machine guns was filmed on Chandler Riggs 14th birthday his first day to legally be allowed to shoot a real gun while filming so they shot all night long to celebrate.
