I used to do it when I was a kid , now I'm 77 years old now and I watched your video for about 5 minutes and I could whistle made me happy happy happy! Thank you very much!😊
@@musicgeniuses for real's i was watching a lot of videos i started to get mad but i got the hang of it when i saw your video o and i subscribed cause you teach very well
I’d just like to say to anyone watching this video. I removed when I first discovered that this kind of whistling was a thing I very young was so excited to learn, I practiced pretty much for a full day and thought I couldn’t do it. After forgetting about it a few years later I thought I’ll give that a go again and I can do it now. You don’t need to practice constantly to learn this just give it time and you will get it.
Quarantine *Month* Number 8: Started teaching myself how to whistle better, started learning how to whistle Native American songs but couldn’t hit the lowest notes nor make it sound like a Pan Flute. Now I’m here learning how to make a hand flute to skip out on paying $150 for a nice pan flute xD I couldn’t get it to work literally at *All,* but this tip actually did help me almost immediately produce a sound. Thank you!
Yay I knew how to did it before from your first video but I could only get it every 20 tries and it was very hard but now almost every try I got it! Thanks
This is the second video of yours that I watched. I've tried for hours each day. I know I have both hands closed air tightly and only leave an opening between my thumbs. I varied the width of that hole and varied the placements of my mouth on my thumbs. I think you need to be more specific on your blowing method. Like, do you blow your air forcefully or gently, do you blow air into the hollow of your hands or just the upper or lower part of that hollow, do you blow air straight into the hollow or upwards or downwards flow instead, or do you just not blow into the hollow but over the tip of your thumbs like you would make a sound by blowing over the top tip of a glass bottle??? Gotta be more specific on your air flow PLEASE!
You will blow right into the palms of your hands. I'll try to illustrate how I blow to make the sound. hold one hand up in front of you and blow a cold stream of air on it. You will notice that the air is moving fast and your mouth muscles are tight. I have not had much success getting a good sound with this type of air stream. Now blow a warm stream of air on your hand as if it's a cold day and you want to warm up your hands. You will notice that the air is moving much slower and your mouth muscles are much more relaxed. This is the best kind of air to use to make a good sound. I hope that helps you!
Thanks so much for getting into a lot of blowing details. I tried and noticed the difference with my warm soft air onto my hand, a faint whistle. Then tried into the palms of both hands again with warm air. It sounded like my soft whistles are coming out of my mouth first before entering into my hollowed hands. I've grown up knowing how to whistle inwardly somehow but could never whistled outwardly instead until now (sort of), as long as I do it inwardly first and then gently blow outwardly by keeping my perched lips intact without changing that position. That method results in a bit of a louder whistle outwardly finally! Are you actually whistling first beforehand which might enhance the whistling sound within your hollowed hands? Your video sounds pretty windy around the microphone though. Do you perch your lips before blowing? I noticed your cheeks kinda blew up like a soft balloon when you blew into your cupped hands. Is the blown air supposed to escape a bit out of your cupped hands, right? I'm not giving up yet! ;)
Okay, I still have not succeeded yet. Just got over a bad cold. However, I discovered through UA-cam about a straw that can be cut up a certain way to use it as a whistle. After following their directions on cutting a straw, it took me about 20 minutes to finally make a whistle sound! I didn't realize until THEN that it involves a lot of lung efforts and the pressure difference within the lungs and my inner mouth. I'm going to practice more with the straw to strengthen my lungs, so perhaps that will help me succeed with your hand whistling type. Remaining hopeful...
@@jimcullen4917 yeah just takes some experimenting. The hole between your thumbs should look like the hole between your lips when you whistle(small and eye shaped). Then try gently blowing anywhere from straight across to 45° downwards. That's my advice. Takes practice
Thank you so much I saw my brother do it and I tried it and failed but thanks to you now I know how thank you so now I can do that to get my brothers attention
Thank you so much for this video I tried doing this a couple of times and I got it like once in twenty tries but after watching this I am now able to do it every second or first try thank you so much
It's taken me about 20 different videos and about an hour to make a beginners whistle. persistence and adjust to your hand size, and leave enough space inside hands for air to resonate
I just don’t get it man. I’m death gripping my hands I’m blowing with a less powerful warm breath like i saw your comment suggest and I’m quite sure it’s airtight because sometimes I can’t even blow air in or it just seems to escape back out the hole without any noise.
So I have been kinda trying this for more than 5 - 6 days. As you told and others youtubers told that you have to blow at the knuckles and I do that but instead, the air goes in the small hole between the 2 thumbs and a little below. Can you tell me what I could be doing wrong?
This is like the 5th video I've watched and I still can't get it 😩 my thumbs don't lay parallel like everyone else's, I wonder if that's why. It hurts lol
I’m still able to get only the tiniest shortest sound. Breath control is out of the question as it takes my entire capacity (I’m a classically trained singer) to obtain just that oh-so-brief sound. It’s not even a half-second in duration. I cannot replicate it at will.
That's a good question. From what I can tell, how dry your lips are shouldn't make any difference. I was trying to experiment just now by making my lips as dry as I can and it didn't seem to change the ability to do it. Thank you for the question!
I cant get it right I get it but it goes I scrolled 5rough the comments looking at peoples tips but still doesn’t help we’ll a little the air just escapes through the hole in between the sounds :(
