Very excited for the upcoming video on setting up a website/webstore! I used to have my own site many years ago, but so many things have changed, and for some reason, Wordpress really intimidates me. I do want to mention that Etsy’s new off-site ads program is optional for a store owner with less than $10K of sales in the past 365 days. Since I’m as small as a gnat in terms of sales at this point, I opted out right away. Just an FYI.

Wow! Etsy is getting to be more all about themselves not about the customers(shop owners) they serve...

    Thanks for the update Marcy!
Right now I have an Etsy site, however, I am open to other possibilities down the road as I build up my followers and customer-base.
One thing I am curious about is, how do you (and anyone else reading this) handle your taxes for out-of-state sales? Especially given the totally insane tax laws for some states and/or counties?

Just turned off the adds on my site and wanted to share the following information provided as well:
“The ability to opt-out of Off-site Ads depends on your shop’s sales in the last 365 days:
      - If you made more than $10,000 USD on Etsy in the past 365 days, you’ll benefit from offsite adverts fixing. You’ll be required to participate for the lifetime of your shop and you’ll get a discounted advertising fee.
      - If you made less than $10,000 USD on Etsy in the past 365 days, Offsite Ads are optional. However, if you choose to use this service, you’ll get advertising run by our team of experts without any upfront investment, which is a great opportunity to grow your business.
We will take a look at your sales each month. Once you’ve made more than $10,000 USD in a 365 day period, you’ll be required to participate in Offsite Ads.”
      YIKES!!!
I’ve opted out and I am a long way from making more than $10K/year. However, with Etsy doing this analysis on a rolling 365 basis every month, for EVERY customer, I am not surprised they are charging 15% on sales generated. If this is your primary basis for sales, you generate a large amount of revenue, AND don’t invest marketing/advertising anywhere else, 15% is reasonable. However, in the end, Etsy takes about 20-30% of your sale. Which, for most of us, is not acceptable. Ugh!

You can only turn off the Etsy Off Site Ads if you made less than $10,000.00 in sales in the last 12 months, so unfortunately anyone who has a shop that made more than $10,000.00 in the last 12 months then you will not see the "Stop promoting my products" option.
One clarification. Shops that made more than $10,000.00 in the last 12 months will be charged 15% for the fee if a seller buys your item from an Off Site Ad.
For shops that made less than $10,000.00 in the last 12 months the fee is only 12%.
Also, Etsy said that they are adverting the Off Site Ads on sites including Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Bing. Each seller was sent an email over a month ago letting them know about this change and what percentage of orders Etsy estimates that this will apply to your shop.
Etsy is doing this in an attempt to provide all of their sellers more sales and in return they make more. This is something that all sellers are going to have to sit down and figure out if they can absorb the fee or maybe they need to adjust the prices to accommodate an X percent among a certain estimated percentage of orders.

its impassible to shutdown the offsite adds because Etsy delete the button for that , so your instruction is incorrect.

Hey, when I go to it I have to use a computer because it didn’t show the button on my phone. On the computer there’s an option to ‘stop promoting my products’ it doesn’t even look clickable but it is. Hope this works for you

@@Tiffany.Pearlella stop promoting is not offsite adds , in the offsite ads you don't have a choice to choose anyways thanks , i guess its about time to think to sell on a website.

These instruments work just fine, but you do have to do it on a computer, not a phone

@@TheBusinessofArt That is maybe if you make under 10k a year , I don't have that option , thanks anyways
