Great advice - I took notes!!! The “it’s only a hobby” comment really hit home.

You are the best. I am so happy I found you. I have never met a real artist who is also a business person. Kudos!! and couldn't be more thrilled that you started this channel. I am beating myself up mercilessly because I keep wanting to create - art and writing - and my coaching business has been my main focus for 20years. Its a very hard transition at a late point in life but I can't seem to stop. Thank you so much!
I will watch every video you make And I am sure you're thinking of a course too.....

I started a UA-cam channel with my art. I want to film more of my other art, but pouring is the easiest for me to record and edit, so my channel is made up 99% of pouring. I watch my first videos and cringe. I'm really new and I only have 56 subscribers, but I worked my butt of for those subscribers and I love them. Starting tomorrow I'll have 29 videos up. I've been posting for about 6 weeks. Soon I'll have more videos than subs! 😂😂😂 I'm having fun doing it, and that's always the most important part for me..I am going to have to open an etsy, because I have so many pieces now. I love them all and will be sad if I sell one, but I've had people already ask to buy. I'm trying to let go. I'm getting there though, almost ready to move on and keep making new pieces! I love these videos..thanks for sharing your secrets!!!

This is so good to hear. What is the differentiation between hobby and art? When I started fluid painting and thinking about where to take it, I looked up the definition of artist, checking to see if I was one 😂. I guess I felt more like one when I sold some paintings but even more so when perfect strangers bought them. I suppose it was validation. I feel funny calling myself an artist, but I love the thought of it. Thank you for the continuing education 💙🌟

Thank you for this. A lot of these limiting beliefs I've had to overcome since being a professional artist...and some I still grapple with.
The biggest one being... Making a living without a partner, since that's what I just went through this past year.

One that I get a lot is "if you don't draw/paint/whatever something that is at least semi-realistic you're not a "real' artist". As if Abstract art isn't "real" art . Pfft!!

Thanks for this. What are some places you would recommend to start sharing your art? Do you have business cards with a picture of one of your pieces?

I know there’s no straight answer for how to make a living as an artist, but how did you get to the point you’re making a full time + income from your art? My whole life I’ve been told it’s not possible, and now at 40 I wish I had ignored them and taken my art more seriously. My life’s at a fork in the road and I really want to throw myself into art (paintings/crafts/etc.) but wouldn’t know where to start. Have you made a video talking about how you started and progressed into a full time income? I’ll have to check! Thanks for giving me & us hope that it is possible!

The part about expensive materials might have some merit to it though. I found an out after using nothing but Crayola all this time that if I display my work it will ruin over time. By all means you don't have to have the most expensive but I learned the hard way with my personal art it needs to be archival. Especially if you're selling your work. You don't want to upset people with it fading in a few months. So if you don't need to go expensive what would you recommend aside from making sure it's archival? I'm still researching this topic. For broke artists it can be costly to lose pieces.
