I landed on your video because I'm really wanting to get a bug for a project and when you approached the overpass I was like.. Oh shit! You're driving through the town I live in! What are the odds? Great video man! Inspirational.
Thanks for the kind words guys. It's a ton of fun, a little street fighter. I'm still amazed how well these old motors can be made to run. As is, with dot slicks and no burn out, all the junk left in the car, it ran a 13.33 @ 99mph. I'm pretty ok with that for a heavier street car with stock gearing.
SWEET RIDE BUDDY.. And guys IDA'S ARE Weber 48IDA pure race carbs. i use IDA on my lil motor too.. IDA's are streetable done and tune right.. just a lil more violent then idfs..CLEAN RIDE TOOO..love it
I have a 67 with a 73 motor in it. This would be awesome todo. Plus i have no radio because, who wants that in a beetle. i love to hear and feel it run
I had a 67 with 2150 heads on a 1500 block, dual port heads. At the time this was as big as I dared go as the cylinder walls got too thin, I found this out after going to 2300 and twisting a poison in the cylinder the first time lol.
Eric : Lap Belts won't keep you from eating the steering wheel or windshield... Shoulder Straps were developed and required after the sixties, when your VW was made/sold. Don't get into negation, I am just trying to save your LIFE.
I was looking through the builds on the Samba trying to decide the next one I'd like to do and I settled on this one. Looking back, anything you would've done differently in the build? I know you said you've long sold it but if you remember the setup on the IDAs, that'd be awesome too. Thanks Eric.
Thanks for the compliment! A fresh engine case...straight up. I think the case I had was beat pretty hard. I think it would have cured some gremlins I fought over the yrs. Car still is solid, engine is ever evolving. My buddy owns it now...very little with the car has changed.
Yes. Here in the states, a double yellow means do not cross the line, do not pass. If the line is broken - - - - -, you may pass slower traffic. It has to do with roads that have blind corners.
I'm addicted to watching this drive . I wonder if it's anything special to building this 2165cc to a 1600cc I know pistons, crank, and bore size with engine bore and modified so the rods will fit
Ha ha! Thank you. It's all in the combination, but these engines really come along with a stroked crank. Good heads and cam combo, carbs are dialed, etc... This is about 180hp. 😎
oil temps were around 200-210 or so, no external oil cooler. That's only with a diff house oil cooler. With the hp were getting out of these little engines now days, an extra oil cooler isn't a terrible idea.
Spencer Hall Idles the same either way. The 3rd progression hole makes for a smoother transition from Idle to lower mid range. Do it. Tons of people run IDA's on the street easily. I used to run DRLAs back in the day. They're smooth, but these aren't bad at all either. I never said to myself........I'm going back to DRLAs.

Great video man! Inspirational.
You're in C-town? This car is not in Utah I believe, but it's memory lives on......
Thanks for the ride! I'm really impressed and the sound from the boxer is just amazing!!
Man I've watched this video a hundred times and I still get goosebumps wishing that was me cruising that sweet azz bug.
HA HA...Well thank you
Wow 😅👍 i could almost feel the power in the video , wonderful sound as well , thanx 4 the ride 😅😘👍
Nice bug, thx for taking us along for the ride...
Thanks for the ride, Eric.
Love them beetles. Have fun and Ride safe always. Keep BUGGIN😊
I'm not a fan of huge tachs, but other than that, it looks and sounds like a very sweet car! You're making me want to build one!
Love the sound if IDA's nom nom nom. Great vid'!
What a great bug sound, thanks for the video.
I love that sound . Nice whip

Holy crap, that's pretty awesome! I had no idea they were that quick!
~100 mph trap speed can be pretty fun on the street.
what transaxle use? 4.37:1 ?
The trans is geared as a stock 67 trans. 4.12 r&p I believe. Super diff, HD side covers, cb race axles, welded third and fourth, etc....
its good to know the stock gearing can take that!!! I have a 67 with a 72 1600 in it. Some day i will build it up like yours!!
very respectable time for a full body street car on street tires
wow, nice engine sound, great video !
awesome driving around like that!!
awesome bug! thanks for the ride!!
I just watched the video and live in Oregon just by the video and back ground knew you were in creswell ! funny ! sounds good !
Thats an amazing type 1, I now have decided to put a similar motor in my 1970 roadster. Thanks for sharing your vw with us.
Thank you! Yes, fun stuff for sure! Do it, smiles for miles!
no doubt it will be.. I think though I'm going to go with the 2276cc 48idf
Cool. Thanks for the ride.
SWEET RIDE BUDDY.. And guys IDA'S ARE Weber 48IDA pure race carbs. i use IDA on my lil motor too.. IDA's are streetable done and tune right.. just a lil more violent then idfs..CLEAN RIDE TOOO..love it
nice bug. love that sound.
Love da sound that engine makes..
Great cruising vid.
Amazing! Well done
cool bug bro looks fun
I have a 67 with a 73 motor in it. This would be awesome todo. Plus i have no radio because, who wants that in a beetle. i love to hear and feel it run
Thanks. Funny, I just watched it again. Look at how fast the speedo needle climbs at about 4:55.
I absolutely love that steering wheel!
it's awesome! thanks
First thing I noticed.
I had a 67 with 2150 heads on a 1500 block, dual port heads.
At the time this was as big as I dared go as the cylinder walls got too thin, I found this out after going to 2300 and twisting a poison in the cylinder the first time lol.
Cool to see a nice bug where I live.
Hopefully you still have it.
Are you in Oregon? I sold this car about 4 years ago to a friend in the Monterey area.
Love that sound
It IS the best! 😀
Sound nice.
LOL....Thanks Brian. =)
Muffler is an A-1 Magnaflow, 1-5/8" Merged by Al's Headers.
No Seat-Belt, Bro.
It's not about the Law,
it's about Life Protection Security...
they easily could be installed.
Long Live VW BUGS !
Lap belt....bro
Eric :
Lap Belts won't keep you from eating the steering wheel or windshield...
Shoulder Straps were developed and required after the sixties, when your VW was made/sold.
Don't get into negation,
I am just trying to save your LIFE.
I get it. The car came from the factory with lap belts. Its legal. I also sold this car about 4 years ago. I have escaped a certain death. 👍
Nice bug!
hello! wanted to ask that transmission ratio has in his Volkswagen? 8x31? or perhaps 8x33?
Nice video! Great!
How much hp are you making can does the motor fit while still being covered or is it exposed great vid though
Here's a different drive I did thru the south hills here in town. Love that sunshine!
ua-cam.com/video/eoNCB0YaehI/v-deo.html
What heads and do you have? valve size? Nice ride!
Smooth!
Nice, what muffler are you running?
Is it a VW engine? How reliable are these things as daily drivers? How much is typical repair bills?
Sweet ride Eric :-) Have a look at my 2276cc ride bro. Cheers.
Muffler is an A1 Magnaflow, Heads are Steve Tims Stage 2+ (42x37.5), 9.5:1cr.
Running this same cam in a 2332 @10:1 with 44x37.5 Tims stg 3's, A1 1 3/4 exhaust. Dell 48's with Berg 37/42 venturis
And what are IDA's?
I was looking through the builds on the Samba trying to decide the next one I'd like to do and I settled on this one. Looking back, anything you would've done differently in the build? I know you said you've long sold it but if you remember the setup on the IDAs, that'd be awesome too. Thanks Eric.

Are double continuous lines indicative of not crossing over?
Yes. Here in the states, a double yellow means do not cross the line, do not pass. If the line is broken - - - - -, you may pass slower traffic. It has to do with roads that have blind corners.
LOVE it! Your engine purrs nicely and it has a lot of pickup! It sounds pretty quiet, what mufflers are you using?
That's an A-1 2-1/2" Magnalfow. It does bark
What gearbox are you running? Sounds close ratio and cool.
ChuddleBuggy That's actually a factory 67 gear ratio box. It's built well, but I kept factory ratios. No doubt it would be quicker with a c/r trans.
Is that tach mount screwed into the dash or some non-permanent way?
No. You remove the defrost vent, and it sandwiches in that slot. Nothing permanent. Pretty simple, yet solid.
what are you running for a shifter? i just noticed you're banging on that thing pretty good.
Scat Drag Fast shifter, with a 2" ball on it. I was fairly gentle I thought. =)
wonder how u got ur go-pro to sound clear tho.. all i get is noise n wind noise. even with windows up.
+wolf hex Not sure? Used the back door of the camera with cut outs. I had it suction cup mounted to my qtr window. Thanks for the compliments.
Sweet ride!!!?
I'm addicted to watching this drive .

Nice dude !! I have the same motor with 48 Ida’s ! Just wondering what size main jets and air correctors ur running? Thanks !
Sorry, this was a few years ago. I don't even remember now.
Eric Gwaltney I hope u still have it !
@@75vw I sold it to a friend of mine. 😉
What part of CG are you from? Looking to buy a Bug too, would like to get in touch
Car was sold in March. I'm no longer in the VW scene.
tnx again for another Cruz, IDA style. Motor run'n Cool..., Doghouse?, external?...... ( Motor sounds Good, Eric ) ..!!!
oil temps were around 200-210 or so, no external oil cooler. That's only with a diff house oil cooler. With the hp were getting out of these little engines now days, an extra oil cooler isn't a terrible idea.
Rahjah that, Eric. My Doghouse set-up does fine also. Tnx.
Fast -Fab. It will come raw aluminum, and flat. IU polished and broke mine at an angle.
what compression is it running? what cam and what are the heads?
9:1, Steve Long XR310-106, Steve Tims Stage 2+ 42x37.5 heads, Pro Comp 1.4 rockers
+Eric Gwaltney badass! thanks man
Do you have 3rd hole progression drilled on those IDAs? If not, is this setup streetable?
thanks
Spencer Hall Yes I do....I drilled them holes my own self too. =)
Does it help a lot with the idle etc? I want to run IDAs but i also want to drive my car in texas whenever I want. thanks again man
Spencer Hall Idles the same either way. The 3rd progression hole makes for a smoother transition from Idle to lower mid range. Do it. Tons of people run IDA's on the street easily. I used to run DRLAs back in the day. They're smooth, but these aren't bad at all either. I never said to myself........I'm going back to DRLAs.
would you say a 2276 would be daily drivable in texas with IDAs? whould i just go with some IDFs or something for a daily?
Daily, I'd probably go IDF.
Great video. What camera where you using?
Just a GoPro hero...nothing special
Sounds like a strong runner Eric. Who is the mountain man driving your car though? Lol
That guy looks just like Rutledge Wood!!!
LMAO........I've never heard that before!
ohhh Weber IDA's!! I thought they stopped making those?
Bombshell Band Yes sir..... Spanish Webers are somewhat still available. EMPI has copied them as well.
Really nice!! cam??
juan pablo villalobos
SLR XR310-106
@Mr Clay Studio
Bark! Bark!
what engine are you using
2165cc. 78x94
Is this motor fuel injected?
No. Dual Weber 48 IDAs
are you able to say what cam n heads you are running.
by the way sweat sounding motor there! :)
The heads are Steve Tim's Stage 2 plus (42x37.5), scat pro comp 1.4 rockers, and can is a Steve Long Racing XR310-106. C/R is set at 9.5:1 static
***** sounds like a small head for that combo, but I bet it has lots of torque. =)
Eric Gwaltney only 158 ft/lb at 4500, thinking of throwing some bigger valves in again, i have 650 springs - CB items (same as the heads)
***** oh yeah, I would. Throw some wedge ports in there. It'll wake it up, and turn some R's
I can’t believe how quite the engine is. It hauls ass though. My 1641 is louder in the car.
Very very nice vid. Go Pro Camera?
yes
W130 COMMAND ?
No, Steve Long Racing. XR310-106 cam.
You actually took the time to post that? I can sit on the couch and hope the house doesn't cave in too LOL
Is it turbocharged?
Bombshell Band IDA'S!!
Eric Gwaltney what are IDA's??
Bombshell Band Carburetors........no turbo
Salve brazil
Built '67 gear ratio box.....not close ratio.
Eric Gwaltney was
I got at 120KM/H in less than 8 seconds on my stock 1200CC beetle, not so impressive than yours though, very cool beetle sir.
Lier
You full of shit
the driver is look like m. morsy the ex mr. president of Egypt
ok?
too bad you traded it for r/c cars Eric.......
Hmmmm..Not at all
Your dash knobs, ash tray, side mirror, and seat covers are not year correct.
But... neither is that motor so I will shut up now. Great sounding ride.
fully aware.........................................thanks
How much hp are you making can does the motor fit while still being covered or is it exposed great vid though
