They are all free to unionize and the owner is free to close the doors.
Now the employees can open their own coffee shop and pay their workers like they want to be paid.
Nope. Socialists never want to do the hard work of starting a business from scratch. They want to hang out at the finish line and steal the business after its become successful.
"That's not how it works!!! We're supposed to share the profits while sharing none of the risks!!!"
Yeh right
We know that won’t happen
It’s a shame that they talk like there is so much money to be made but don’t want to have their own coffee shop. Also I bet the owners knew it wasn’t worth the trouble…
Welcome to the free market. No private company is obligated to operate at a loss just to placate a bunch of entitled individuals who knew the terms and salary arrangements they willingly agreed to. Welcome to the real world.
Well put! Exactly!
How do you know they would be operating at a loss? They might just not want the headache and the reduced profits.
@@DWilliam1 It would appear that you are unaware of the actual details of the story. Were you not aware that the parent company released a statement along with the financials for the coffee shop?
This people have a right to unionize. The owners also have a right to close their doors rather than put up their foolishness.
These Commies just got a lesson in economics.
No one owes you a job.
Let the union organizers start their own coffee shop.
Why do they always want to take over something someone else has already worked to start?
They complain they are overworked. Problem solved.
overworked than quit go home to mamas basement...
Basement, they live in the whole house rent free.
Who's giving coffee shop workers the idea they are as important as they think?
Stop the insanity. 😂
Joe Biden and the communist.
No idea, I make my tea/coffee at home in the morning with a travel mug.
Being in a union makes one think they are important?

The employees want damages ????? LOL There is no way they are going to get damages. The fact that she said that is hilarious. Melting Woke Snowflakes.
I cracked up laughing when she said that. Lol
She probably expects cheese with that whine!
Yeah, why didn’t I get a severance package of six months pay!!! 🙁
They should pay all of us damages for them existing.
That was disgusting when I heard that shit fall out of her mouth. Severance and damages? Who gave her those ideas?
"We are owed so much, severance and damages." Yeah, good luck with that. They owe you nothing.
True. If there were 50 employees, then what "the owners" did is illegal. But there were 30. However...if there are other locations and the total number of workers is over 50, they may still have liability. Depends on how the business is structured. That's why the news report should have identified the owners.
Are you a real boomer or a Russian bot?
@@macmcleod1188
It was a small coffee shop, no place like that can afford 50 workers. LMAO
@@kingbullyrock8739 The two coffee shops closed had 30 employees.
When I think "small coffee shop", I think 4 to 6 emploiyees and a manager at most.
I would think the owners talked to a lawyer before they closed

All 30 employees can go to the bank and take out a business loan and pay what they want, problem solved.
Now they get to learn the real minimum wage...........zero. 😂
As someone who learned a trade that took a long time to reach 30 dollars an hour this sickens me. Who in their right mind thinks pouring coffee is a skill ?????
Like, just find another job. You didn't like working at the place anyway.
There's no law against closing a business
There’s an old saying in organized labor: “Half of something is better than all of nothing.” The now-unemployed whiney brats can sit in mom’s basement and ponder how that applies to their situation.
The employees "unionized" them out of their jobs. I'm sure these highly skilled "Baristas" can find jobs at Starbucks....
A.O.C IS A HOT DOG MAKER NOT JUST A COFFEE MAKER 😅
Very true
You threatened the owner and they responded … actions have consequences!
“But my Gender Equity and Social Justice professors said this would never happen. This is all so confusing. Like, I don’t have my job but, like, they still have THEIR jobs.”
"they owe us severance and damages" hahahaha they dont owe you shit.
Yeah, I believe the WARN act is for 50 or more laid off for a 60 day severance or notice. They got what they wanted. They just didn’t know it.
Lmao… when employees think a small business needs the headache of a union when your annual income barely justifies keeping the doors open
Owner just showing you he is in control not you
Oh, boo-hoo. Open a coffee shop of your own, if you want to work in one so bad.
You are owed nothing.
all the issues the employees had with the coffee shop........instantly resolved!!
The true minimum wage is $0
I completely agree. I've had this discussion with friends and relatives over the years. When they favor minimum wage laws, I say, "Why not make it $100 an hour?" "They invariably say, "Businesses can't afford that." I reply, "How do you know what any specific business can afford to pay?"
Seriously?? Unions only work when your job and skills are ESSENTIAL. You can drag anyone off the street and teach them to make coffee. To negotiate you need leverage and you never had any.
Hey welcome to accountability
Not for the anonymous "owners". They get away with abusing workers scott free. While 85 is fine "sitting in a chair" temperatures where I live... in some parts of the world people die at those temperatures. Workers should be able to know the history of business owners just as business owners can look up the history of workers.
What did they expect? Unionizing a small business is a recipe for disaster.
They owe you nothing more than the pay check you get for the hours you work
Enjoy unemployment
Now they don't have to worry about no air-conditioning. 🤣
No sane person would start a business with unionized employees.
In the depths of UA-cam's endless scroll,
A boomer's words begin to roll,
Typing fiercely with stubborn pride,
In the comment section, where he thinks he can hide.
He rants against the workers' cause,
Dismissing unions with mocking applause,
"Lazy millennials, entitled and weak!"
His words, a poison, harsh and bleak.
From his keyboard throne, he reigns supreme,
Spewing venom in a virtual stream,
"Unions ruin business, destroy the free!"
His ignorance flaunted for all to see.
But amidst the digital noise and blare,
Others rise with thoughtful care,
They counter his claims with facts so clear,
Exposing falsehoods with each keyboard steer.
For in this digital battlefield's fray,
The boomer's bias fades away,
As voices unite, from every creed,
In solidarity, they plant the seed.
For UA-cam comments may seem a space,
Where ignorance can find its place,
But truth and reason, steady and strong,
Can turn the tide, where they belong.
So let the boomer type his disdain,
For unions and the worker's gain,
In pixels and screens, the battle's fought,
Where justice and truth shall never be bought.

They owe us so much for taking away jobs we hated.
go to the union for a new job ..... just remember you're now at the bottom of the seniority list . you were outside picketing . owner doesn't owe you anything except earnings earned .
i wonder if that tells you anything? Cheaper to close down than afford a union
👍 Let’s create a whole new bureaucracy for these owners to have to deal with. As if the city bureaucracy wasn’t bad enough.
The "union" would have screwed them over worse and took their "dues"😢 FJB
People just think there's all this money to go around
My first job ever was a union job. I made $11.50 an hour. Pretty great stuff for a kid who just graduated high school.
But then each pay check they took $200. So $400 a month went to union fees.
I made more money working at wendy's for $7.25 an hour because none of it was taken in union fees. I don't know what everybody's obsession is with unions.
The statement regarding unions and fees needs clarification and context to understand why it is misleading:
Union Dues and Benefits:
Union dues are typically a percentage of your wages and are used to support the collective bargaining efforts, legal representation, and other services that unions provide to their members. These fees are meant to ensure workers receive fair wages, benefits, and protections.
While $200 per paycheck may seem like a significant deduction, it's essential to consider the benefits received in return, such as higher wages, better working conditions, and job security. Unions often negotiate for benefits like healthcare, retirement plans, and paid leave that can outweigh the cost of dues.
Comparing Wages Directly:
Comparing the wage of $11.50 per hour in a union job to $7.25 per hour at Wendy's without considering the total compensation package is incomplete. Union jobs frequently offer better benefits, job security, and opportunities for advancement that aren't always available in non-union positions.
The higher hourly wage at Wendy's might seem more appealing upfront due to the lack of union dues, but it's crucial to factor in the long-term benefits and protections that unionized workers enjoy.
Misconceptions about Union Fees:
Union fees are not simply deducted without reason. They fund crucial services that benefit workers collectively, such as legal assistance during grievances, training programs, and lobbying efforts for labor rights legislation.
Without union representation, workers may face challenges in negotiating fair wages, maintaining safe working conditions, and protecting their rights against arbitrary termination or unfair treatment.
Broader Societal Benefits:
Unions historically have played a pivotal role in advancing workers' rights, contributing to the establishment of minimum wage laws, workplace safety standards, and other protections that benefit all workers, whether unionized or not.
The "obsession" with unions stems from their role in promoting economic justice, reducing income inequality, and advocating for policies that benefit working-class families across various industries.
In conclusion, while the immediate take-home pay might appear lower due to union dues, the overall benefits and protections provided by unions often far outweigh these costs. Unions contribute to a more equitable workplace and society by advocating for fair wages, decent working conditions, and ensuring that workers have a voice in decisions that affect their livelihoods. Therefore, dismissing unions based solely on a comparison of take-home pay overlooks the broader advantages they provide to workers and society as a whole.
Yeah, unions are for sub-par employees that need a safety net from being fired.
400 per month?!? What the hell? What percentage were you paying in union dues? That’s an insane amount of money! Were your union dues 50?

Kid says he sees all the profits coming in! What he doesn’t see is the bills that are coming in too. So out of touch with reality they think a coffee shop can pay every slacker $20/hr!! lol!!! And she wants severance pay! OMG!!!! They will never get it.
I see the sales said the employee but did he see the cost of operations and hassle from goverment overregulation.
Insurance, lease payments, taxes, franchise fees, etc.
Yep, very true
"What I will have to do to find a new job." Walk your ass to Starbucks, take an application, and fill out an application. There, solved your problem
They brought it upon themselves.
They own the place. They don't "owe" you anything. If you were so miserable with the conditions there why didn't you go work someplace else. They can close if they want to.
You have the right to try to unionize. The owner has the right to close. You said you would work for those wages, what's the problem?
Another thriving business destroyed by ungrateful employees?
I assume they were part time workers and they want severance pay? Why not 8 months health care and an electric car. If you're going to be stupid, go all the way. Flash, a company can close their doors on a moments notice. How much time would you give them when you quit? GROW UP!!
I'm now retired but I did own my own business employees think that you are raking in the money what they don't see is how much goes out. Many expenses that they have no idea about.
when I was a young man working minimuim wage jobs, I don't remember having a severance package clause or do i remember signing a contract!!

25 yo that don't understand economics? They know what an ad verb is though.
The entitlement with young adults now is laughable. You got a new line of work. It’s the unemployment line.
But you negotiated your wages when you started, if the was a wage structure presented to you why would you expect that to change?
Get unemployment and apply to Star Bucks.
Good on the owners. Now the taxpayers won’t have to pay to bailout the union down the road.
It’s not their company in the first place. Screw those guys…let them open their own shop, with their own money, pay their own overhead, pay over inflated wages and see how long they stay open.
All of you need to open your own coffee shop. Then pay you as much as you want.
Oh well! Bite the hand…..businesses aren’t there for you to have a job.
my money my choice.
If you don't like the money and benefits the company offers you at the time of your interview, then don't take the job. How is that so hard for the union-minded people to understand?
Some owners don’t want to put up with union BS, now the low (no) skill labor can negotiate with themselves.
Nobody owes you a job.......
If I am a owner I can close at anytime, union sucks , don’t go that way
Good for the owners.
Interpretation - “I can’t believe the owners shut down instead of going bankrupt”. This is what the 30 employees need to do. Get together, go to a bank, get a business loan with all 30 of them co-signing, and open a coffee shop. As stated “there is long lines out the door”.
......meanwhile,
coffee shop owners given 1 day notice that employees intend to unionize,
what's the difference,
Be careful what you ask for; deal with it.
“I see a line of people and therefore this is profitable” lmao. And believing they’re owed anything. This next generation is the worst one yet.
Did she demand severance and damages?
Employee asking for Luxury to keep them motivated to work this people never seen my working condition in my country but we insist to keep it because we cant find any job
At 1:51/2:11, this employee "sees their sales numbers ......and the line out the door." Does this employee also see the rent payments and utility bills, etc?? Then at 2:02/2:11, another employee states "they need to pay us severance and damages." What did your employment agreement say?? I've never ever heard of an employer in this line of business that was held liable for "severance and damages." Don't like to see anyone lose their job but the employer made a business decision that they couldn't pay higher wages due to their cost structure.
Oh well, stupidity has consequences.
FAFO 😂😂😂😂
Where do these crazies get the idea that a business owner will shut down a profitable, thriving business?
If those coffee shops were making money like these people think, I can assure you the owners would not have shut down. Lol
If they don't like the job, just go somewhere else.....
There is a point where the owner can not afford to pay high wages, they found that point of NO RETURN……
Who protests in front of a closed business? Maybe I’ll go protest in front of Blockbuster Video today. That will show them!
now that was funny
Can't unionize if theres no company left....tax write offs are much more profitable than paying people extra

The most useless people i have seen in a long time. they dont know the real cost of running a buisness.
I love how they think they are owed more than their pay. If they really hated the conditions there just quit. But no its better to complain.
Those Workers can still Unionize and Pay the Weekly Union Dues from their Pockets instead of Payroll Deductions. That Guy Said the Owners we’re doing Great Business so Who’s really being Hurt More by Closing Down?
You are a coffee shop employee. You are not worth all of that. Close them all down.
It’s a COFFEE SHOP.
Damn right... They can take their BS union and shove it... 💥
Damages!?!?😂😂
hahahahahahahahahahah
It's easier to move your coffee shop somewhere more business friendly than it is to deal with u ionised staff.
Closing is maybe a sign of financial stress
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. The increased costs in a really crappy economy make it impossible for small business owners to continue operating when this happens. It may seem unfair, but if you knew how expensive it is with inflation to operate a business like a coffeeshop, especially in DC/NOVA, with shrinking margins and taxes and overhead and whatnot, you would quickly understand why they had to close when the workers decided to unionize. It sucks, but welcome to the beginnings of an economic depression. They were smart and decided to cash out. It sucks for the workers, but nothing is free, and small businesses like non-national chain coffeeshops simply cannot handle the kind of overhead unionization brings in this crappy economy. Sorry, not sorry, it's the truth. As someone who is very familiar with running a coffeeshop, I can tell you that this is what is inevitable when you have workers who want to unionize. It's very expensive for the business, especially one that's already struggling in this shitty economy, and it makes more sense to just cut your losses and fold up shop.
Welcome to a shitty economy and the economic consequences of workers who want to unionize. This isn't a large factory or national chain, this is a small business with cutthroat margins that is experiencing the same pain the rest of us are with increased costs. You can't "wave a magic unionization wand" and magically make things better for yourself in a coffeeshop, you will force the coffeeshop to close and you and everyone else will be out of a job, just ask OCF in Philly - the same thing happened there too. It's not that they're anti-union, it's that they literally cannot afford to continue operating with that structure imposed on it - it meant the difference between continuing to exist as a business, even while struggling, and shutting down - because they couldn't afford it. When you're operating close to the margins (and about to be operating at a loss), I'm sorry people - it's not personal, it's business and economics.
There's very little protection for unionization. Voodoo donuts in Portland is an example. 1 store unionized and the chain pressures other managers and other stores to not unionize and watches their employees. Anyone thinks about organizing their coworkers and they are immediately fired.
