Black country folk are the world's best natural comedians, I knew loads of them and they'd give you the coat off their back and their last penny if you needed it! When I was about fourteen me, my mother,my brother and my sister used to go over the Black country every Saturday night for a night out with a coach load of people from Bromsgrove! Us kids made do with Vimto and crisps, whilst the adults got some good beer down their necks! After about the age of fifteen me and a couple of mates used to go off to the chippy and then off looking for 'birds' but had to be back at the coach for 10.45 to head back home! The chat up lines were cheesey and make me cringe now, but we tried, we were dressed up in gear from Kay's catalogue thinking we looked the dogs bollocks, in fact I believe we looked more like 'pillocks' if the truth be told! 'If I told yer you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me'? 'Do you sleep on your stomach? no? well, would you mind if I do'? World class one liner chat up lines, you can't beat 'em!
Speaking as a born and bred scouser, I grew up in the Black Country and agree with what you say of their generosity. Black country humour is dry, incredibly funny and despite my dubious birthright, I class myself as a Black country mon.
