    I just make these add 1/2 cup chopped onion; pinch of smoked paprika, let it sit for 5 minutes-perfection

    I remember in the late 70s going to a restaurant named, "Long John silver's" And enjoying these Hush Puppies lol
    Since then, I've enjoyed them..
    Great recipe, Dave. Stay warm my friend.

    Next to garlic bread, hush puppies are my absolute favorite bread. I love the crispy Miss up them and the soft texture inside, not to mention the flavor.

    Thank you, thank you thank you thank you thank you for reading out the ingredients instead of posting them in the video. I’m visually impaired, it’s 3 AM and I have a hankering for hush puppies, and I had to scroll through 10 videos to find one that I can make. So thanks again.

    If I may suggest the addition of finely chopped onions and a small can of drained whole corn. But watch out for the corn exploding while cooking. My uncle taught me these additions 60 years ago

    Dave, big yes for us & the girls, we like yellow cornmeal hush puppies & non-sweet, legend has it that if your dog were barking to much( here in rural South everybody has dogs) or in the house you threw them a couple of these & would holler " hush puppy"! True legend

      @TheCooknShare  Рік тому +1

      Hey Steve. Yes, they're so good. I've made them three times now. I should have said that in the video. I should ask you first. What about corn fritters? Any legend on that? I'll make these up for the next lodge meeting.

      Dave my friend, basically the same hush puppy recipe, adding fozen/but semi thawed corn kernels to the wet batter & stir before frying, you said you like your hush puppies sweet so with the addition of the corn to the amount of batter you made add about 1/3rd tbls more of sugar, can add small diced sweet vidalia onions to the wet batter also if you like, about a 1& 1/2 tbls to the about of batter you made, fry the same amount of time pal, hope that helps

      Dave my friend, you can also fry the corn fritters in a disc like a potato pancake in a pan( cast iron is best) of some oil, very good. btw, I have cooked with cast iron since I was 9 yr old & I'm 60 now. A secret to frying with cast iron, it is a poor conductor of heat but great retainer of heat, because just heated on the stove top you will have cool spots in the bottom of the cast iron skillet. Place the skillet( no oil) in a pre-heated oven at 425-450 F for 20-25 minutes on center rack, double oven mitt /pot holder when removing from oven as will be screaming hot & then add your oil & ingredients on the burner, cooks evenly any food , don't forget that the skillet handle will be screaming hot while cooking on stove top, I leave a pot holder nearby to remind me & if you grab it otherwise it will blister/burn your hand palm before you can yank your hand off, but is the best way to cook, fry, bake, etc...with cast iron

Loved their chicken and Fish but I always gave mine to whoever I was eating with. Were to dry for me. Yours don't look dry at all. HI COCO!

    I always joke that if I'm stranded on a desert island, I want basil, red wine vinegar and hush puppies. 3 of my favorite foods. My 4th favorite is corn fritters from Bud's Chicken in Florida. Do you have a corn fritter recipe? Can't wait to try these hush puppies. Thanks for sharing.

    😭😭😭 I miss hushpuppies! Being from the southern US, it's a staple. Unfortunately, corn meal is as rare as hen's teeth in remote Australia. I found it once in an African Grocer in Brisbane but that was about 15 years ago and not at all in Tasmania. Dave, do you deliver?

    • @TheCooknShare
      @TheCooknShare  Рік тому +1

      I’m from the south and have never seen powdered sugar on hush puppies. After I cook mine, I immediately add a bit of salt. And I’ve never seen a sweet sauce served with them. I just use whatever I’m serving with my fried fish. Or ketchup if served solo.
