I completely agree with what your friend was saying about how easy it is to forget how fascinating the cities/countries we live in may be to other people!! I’m from Ottawa, ON (its pretty boring here tho lol) but just 2 weeks ago I visited Vancouver for the first time and had the best time!! I went to the Capilano Suspension Bridge, the CF Pacific Centre, Biking along Stanley Park, Granville Island and I even drove up to Whistler for the day. You should make a video being a tourist in your own city, I feel like people would really enjoy it.
