The main use of the past tense is for events, conditions, or states that once existed in or during some past time but that do not exist in the present.(English Verbs Tenses up close). Is it right? He was a teacher.(Maybe he is a teacher or not a teacher.)
this video helps me a lot thx :D you da best at tenses I only tough to there were three tenses pats present and future but there are actually 12 altogether wow thanks
Hello! I don't know why but for me it doesn't work either. But an any rate, I picked this video because of subject - the past tenses. I've read one of the Agatha Christie's novels and I'm currious about one of a sentence. Here it is: "I saw him. He turned the flash round on everybody until he found her and then he held it right at her and just fired at her." So, my question isn't that sentence says about two action which occured in the past and the first was happend before (which is also the word 'until' pointed out on that fact) then the second one, is it? Is that possible to use past perfect here and if it's not, could you please explain that case, sir? Thank you.
PAST SIMPLE = CONSECUTIVE PAST PERFECT = BEFORE PAST SIMPLE. I saw him (1). He turned the torch round on everyone (2) until he found her (3) and then held it at her (4) and fired at her (5) They all sound consecutive to me. Therefore past simple is correct
