2 Mars Hill College Athletes Face Sex Charges

Mars Hill College is a sleepy school with just over 1,100 students. It's small enough for just about everyone on campus to know each other and know about the rape allegations engulfing two members of the school's football team. Quazman Harris and Jonathan Charles stand accused of sexual battery and assault on a female after a dorm room party in Myers Hall Saturday night. News 13 talked to two freshmen who live in Myers and know the athletes in question."He invited the girl up there and basically she was trying to have sex with three people when she came there," said Ian Dolle. "When I was coming home I saw him and her walking up the steps and they were talking as just friends," said Kevin Little.What happened next remains under investigation by Mars Hill police, but some already have their minds made. When asked if he believes the allegations against the players are true Little said, "No, no. I know Jon. Jon not like that. He too cool. And Q not like that either cause they both play football. They try to have fun but they're not going to force you to do anything." Dolle mirrored those remarks and said, "I basically think they just trying pin something on them right now."College officials say they can't talk specifically about the students involved in the alleged sexual assault, but they do say the matter is under full investigation. College spokesman Mike Thornhill said, "there is an incident and it's working its way through the student judicial process."Attempts to reach Charles' parents were unsuccessful, however, News 13 was able to contact Harris' mom. "My son is innocent until proven guilty and I do not believe that he did anything like the charges that have been placed against him," said Zarayna Harris.Harris is out on bond while Charles was still in the Madison County jail at last check. News 13 does not name victims of an alleged sexual assault.
