Pitt hasn’t had much success against the Penn State for several years now in there longest rivalry game. Keep Pitt vs Penn State rivalry but bring back Penn State vs Notre Dame rivalry as well
Pitt is 2-3 vs PSU in the last 5 games in the most recent games.
That's 2 or 3 plays away from being 3-2 in the last 5 and youd be saying that? It just doesn't make sense. But that's fine. Pitt wants to play, PSU does not.
2-3 is all the more reason to continue the series. We probably agree on that. There was only one game with a lopsided score in the past 5 games and it was late in the game and those Pitt players looked out of sync and not ready for the season with a brand new QB vs Saquan and McSorley or whatever his name is.....as an excuse.
Why wouldn't PSU want to continue if alot of the games are very tight and competitive? Dont get it. Sure that one Lopsided game when PSU hung 50 on Pitt, Pitt also pitched that shutout 12-0...that never tastes good either.
I completely understand that Pitt dominated alot longer ago and PSU dominated more recent in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. That's the past. I'm talking last 5 games.
It seems very even and competitive and why I can understand why PSU doesnt want to sign the deal. Trying to downplay Pitt just as press mention to slight Pitt instead of doing what's right for the players, city, the fans, the students and the game of College Football. If you just want to slight Pitt, consider us slighted and just sign the deal. Let's play another 4, minimum. Happy Valley goes first at home cuz they won the last series.

@@timbucher564 that's my point. 2-3 and 3-2 are not much different. Its typically a couple plays during those tight games that couldve swung it 2 more games to PSU or two more games to Pitt.
It's a tight series. Especially the last 5 games only have one game that wasnt a smash em up, great game. Great TV. Great for the fans. Great for football.
But PSU wants to pretend it's so much better than Pitt and their real rivals are OSU and Michigan but those schools laugh at PSU when it comes to conference titles. Theyre so much better yet rarely EVER win that conference with their "superior rivalries".....aka they dont do well in those games yet pretend Pitt cant hang.
Pitt cant hang but stopped PSU from a Playoff berth just 3 seasons ago. Pitt cant hang but routinely shocks top 10 teams. Ask ND, ask Clemson, ask WVU.
They just happen to also play down to their competition but hey not everyone can start their seasons with teams like Idaho and SouthWest Alabama St every year like most B10 schools.
@@YappingGamerDad I don't know why you are ranting on, but a lot of Penn State fans don't care if they play Pitt or not...and the same thing with Temple. Ok, you shock a Top 25 team here and there, big deal, you have to do it consistently and try to bring something to the rivalry besides history. As far as Penn State goes, beating you does nothing for our drive toward a Big Six New Year's Bowl or Playoff consideration (that loss to Pitt wasn't really the reason we were kept out of the Playoff's in 2016, it had more to do with Ohio State beating Oklahoma and the Committee wanting a more marquee match-up).
Our recent history of play vs our Conference rivals (OSU & Michigan) have been very good over the last 4 years, with the losses to Michigan being the only downers...2 & 2 going into this year.The last 3 games against OSU have been 1 win and 2 losses with a combined total of 4 points - so I would think your condensending comment about them being "so much better..." is just silly. Don't forget Michigan State, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Northwestern and i'll throw in Indiana - all very competitive and at one point over the past 2 or 3 years, all Top 25 teams (minus Indiana). Penn State has an objective that's bigger than beating up on Pitt just because some people are nostalgic. Call it a slight, arrogance or just outright disrespect of your football team, we're not playing you and don't hold your breath looking for a return of the series any time soon! P.S. Why don't yoy try to establish a new rivalry with the team that plays in largest city in Pa., and the 5th largest in the country...Temple would love to play you - maybe between the two schools you can fill up half of the Linc!

It's not about nostalgia, it's always a good, tight game. It's good for football and I a fan of one of the teams.
No one is impressed. Pitt doesnt knock off top teams every once in a while. Its once or twice a season, most seasons of late.
PSU can just play Idaho on their home opener every year. We dont care. Just doesnt make sense.

I made the trip up to PA for the game and money well spent, I remember this being a huge rivalry in the 80's growing up. Sadly it sounds like the end of the series for quite some time but at least I was there and got to see Penn State beat up on Pitt. It's a great rivalry and it's a shame it's not played each year.

Wow psu played so bad our O line could not keep Pitt out of the backfield and our D did not look great. But I will say I think it helps us a ton that we have a bye so we get two weeks to improve our team for a good Maryland and the rest of our season

First thing that needs to be said is the better team does not always win sporting contests, no matter what the sport. Based on common sense percentages, their was an easy to see 10 pt swing in this game. A 57 yd fg to end the half? Cmon. I mean kudos to the kicker, but I bet he misses 8 out of 10. And 1st and goal from the half yd line? Only horrible play calling and the stupid decision to kick, limited Pitt's chances to get a td that could've been the difference. Hey, I said it sounded weird. But it very easily could've turned out that way. And don't bring up last years score. Penn St ran the score up well after the game was over. Throwing deep with under 5 min and the worst, challenging a play with under a minute left.

This game was much closer than the final score indicated. Penn State was very lucky to win, Pitt shredded their secondary late in the 4th but made some questionable goal line plays.

Who's going to be better than him through? Paul Chryst didn't do much better there, even though he's done fantastic since taking over Wisconsin. Pitt needs to be careful here. They are a VERY hard place to win at in this day and age.
Defense shut them out in 2nd half.. They are fast and tackle well and Pry atleast knows what he's doing. defense isn't the problem..offense has no identity. If you're going to run RPO stuff then Clifford has to keep it atleast on occassion. Offense had so much turn over this season, they don't know if they want to be a run team or a passing team. For christ sake they can't even settle on a RB1. But defense is legit.
PSU needs some better D back coverage, because teams that can pass will have a field day!
We have a really young secondary, I'm just glad that there weren't any blown coverages. Watch out for Keaton Ellis. He's going to have a pick 6 soon.

Pitt is a low level D one program that should consider moving down to division two...zero fan and alumni support, horrible facilities, antiquated urban campus, lack of ability to recruit top coaches or players in any sport. They had their time decades ago but it's long over to never return....this game is the result...

Everyone saying Pitt should have gone for it: no, they shouldn't have. With 5 minutes left PSU could have gotten into field goal range and made it a 10 point game. How dumb would Pitt look if they got the ball back with a chance to drive down the field, only to find themselves down by 10 rather than 7. The kick was a smart call. Plus it allowed them to WIN on the following drive if PSU came away with nothing.

I do see the strategy that they were going for and mathematically it's the right move, but I don't think it's viable at the college level for most teams especially this early in the season and in a lower scoring game. PSU kicker was on point, so maybe they were considering that, but I'd rather get another shot at 4th and goal then if they cant punch it in at least PSU offense would really be stuffed back there. One mistake on their part and it would pay off for Pitt. Still good to see Pitt vs PSU again and also need to bring back the Backyard Brawl, Pitt vs WVU!
No you moron it doesnt make any sense at all. Even if he makes the FG, they still need a touchdown to score. So why not score the touchdown the easiest possible way (at the 1 yard line). Plus even if they didnt get it, psu gets the ball at the 1 yard line and pitt was blitzing well all day. Stupid coaching, stupid decision.

What dont you understand about them having to score a touchdown regardless if they make that field goal or not. They HAD to get a touchdown to either tie OR win so why wouldn't you try and get that touchdown when you're at the 1 yard line instead of having to drive the field again? Plus, if they went for it and scored there then stopped PSU, they could've been kicking a potential game winning FG at the end instead throwing up a desperation pass to try and tie it.
