      @@der60er you can play flat games on PS5 using the PSVR2 and in those you can disable HDR. For the games I tested it looks good in both ways. For Assassin's Creed Odyssey in HDR the brightness is similar to my 400 nits monitor, not as bright as an OLED smartphone that surpasses 1000 nits. The color gamut is high and makes the games look vivid. With HDR on the main difference is more detailed highlights.

    For your review I'd like to see how the PSVR2 performs with mid range GPUs. 4090s are good to see the full potential of the device, but many will be playing with mid range cards like the 4070 super, very similar in performance to the 3090.
    I'd also like to see if the displayport connection offers benefits over streaming to something like Quest 3 in terms of lag, image quality and performance.

    • @pixxelpusher
      @pixxelpusher 18 днів тому +1

      I agree. Most people would have something in a 60/70 variant, so seeing how it performs on those types of cards is important. I'm imagining it would put a lot less stress on the system so much better latency and even higher frame rates than Quest 3.

  • @SargonDragon
    @SargonDragon 20 днів тому +10

    I think the PSVR2 is a viable low end option to consider against the Quest 3 and Crystal Light. Against the Quest 3, the big selling points are the DisplayPort connection (no latency, no compression artifacts from remote streaming) and OLED panels. Versus Crystal Light, I think the main selling point is that it's not made by Pimax. You can expect a more stable and polished experience from the PSVR2 where Pimax has a really bad track record with stability and customer service.
    The big game changer will be if the opensource community can get the PSVR2's eye tracking working on PCVR. I will be surprised if they don't, but it's not a guarantee yet. But assuming it does, this will be a PCVR headset with OLED and eye tracking for $600. That will be a big deal for a lot of people out there, especially orphaned Reverb G2 DCS pilots and VRChat players. No other headset on the market will even come close to that.

      Quest Pro has much better clarity than the PSVR2, PSVR2 is only 18PPD and doesn't have a full subpixel arrangement. Most disappointing, it uses fresnel lenses so is clear only in the centre, and suffers bad mura. It's not a good PCVR headset unless you absolutely prioritise OLED colours and brightness over everything else.

  • @wickfut8917
    @wickfut8917 20 днів тому +8

    I've just been playing with the IVRy PSVR2 driver for PC and it's very warped with incorrect FOV but you can tell the PSVR2 is going to be amazing on PC. About the same perceived resolution as a Quest Pro, but is blinding bright.

      Sounds amazing. That's exactly what I'd want to hear, couldn't ask for more from this headset tbh.
      For a low-medium end PCVR headset, it will be arguably the best option in terms of the overall visual and comfort experience. (Pimax Crystal a bit more expensive and heavier, but higher resolution LCD....take your pick)
      I just wish they launched it on PC alongside PS5, instead of waiting this long.
      But I'm extremely glad we are now finally getting it at least, so we now have this as an option.

      @@zackmac5917 I played a few minutes of Elite Dangerous and in OLED was fantastic, the stars were blinding. Then tried a night race in AMS2, which was similar to GT7 night races, being pure black with just the glow of the dials visible.
      I had a love hate relationship with my Crystal, I didn't miss it when I returned it. Not sure if I could completely go PSVR2 from my Aero, but i think I could do 75% PSVR2 on PC and the Aero just for sim racing.
      As I said though, the IVRy drivers have warped visuals, like you're zoomed in too much so it loses depth. But the colours and contrast/black levels with the PC are going to be amazing. The brightness in the headset is full on, like when running HDR on PS5.

It appears to be quite easy to run, but it didn't take too well to being super-sampled, unlike a headset such as a HP Reverb which just gets sharper and sharper as you increase the resolution.

The PSVR2 is a step up in just about everyway except audio. If god rays weren't a thing I think the Index still holds up pretty well overall. I recently spent some time using a Quest 3 paired to a PC with a 12900K/4090 and other than black levels I think overall its a clear step above the PSVR2 with super crisp image movement.

      I feel like it's extremely rare that we get a "straight upgrade" (without sacrificing something like Fov or tracking) when it comes to VR. It always feels like the "Rift-S situation".
      The Quest 3 might be a good one, but still, if I nitpick it hasn't caught up to the colors of the first one and it introduced new limitations with tracking and battery life. G2 didn't sacrifice anything, but only improved resolution iirc.

      I might still buy a Quest 3 because it's "good enough" but it will end up closer to a Beyond in price after the accessories and dedicated router, so I might be better off with a dedicated PCVR HMD. Maybe PSVR-2 if they get all the features working...
      I didn't get a chance to see the Quest 3 streaming from PC, but it wasn't really the graphics I was disappointed with. The resolution just wasn't as amazing as some have described it, like "Screen door effect is totally gone!" and "The colors are actually great" and "A much better FoV". I felt like yeah the FoV is a little better when it's cranked against my eyelashes, I could clearly see SDE from the moment I got into the menu, and the colors were okay in bright/ cartoon-ish style games. The Improved FoV was the biggest let down tbh.
      The pancake lenses actually are just as good as people say, and I was pleasantly surprised with the passthrough quality (something I don't plan on using very much). It's a wash imo, and I'm tired of waiting for someone other than PiMax to release something with 120°+ FoV.

      @dtz1000 Yes, OLED is Nice. I used my Vive Pro for the longest. But, it is time to move on. I ❤️ my PSVR2, but I was very disappointed they used the Fresnel Lenses. I absolutely hate those. They ruin the whole experience for me. After seeing how clear lenses look, it is hard to go back. I am excited to see what my new Pimax Crystal Light headset is going to offer. It should be here any day now. I just want monitor like quality inside of the headset. I like everything to look sharp and clear without any blurriness. PSVR2 has lots of that.
      What I think Sony should do is offer there exclusive games to us PCVR gamers. I would love to explore Horizon Call of the Mountain and Play Gran Turismo 7 with my Pimax Crystal Light headset. 😉👌

    PSVR2 for PC, or Quest 3? I currently own a Quest 3 and I have been using it for PCVR but the LCD displays are very distracting in dark scenes. I would love an OLED headset, but I am worried the PSVR2’s fresnel lenses and slightly lower resolution will mitigate the gains from the better colors and significantly deeper contrast…

      If you have Q3, forget about PSVR2. You would never want to switch from your Q3 to mura + fresnel lenses. Once you start see mura, you would never be able unsee it. It's like dirty lenses, which you can't clean up. Q3 also has mura, but of a very minor magnitude and you can only see it in a very bright scene, while in PSVR2 you see it everywhere. If you wear glasses, just put some greasy fingerprints on your glasses and try to live with it for a couple of hours. The strength of mura effect varies from headset to headset. If you can test a PSVR2 headset before buying, then go ahead. If you can't, then most probably you'll get something you'll want to smash into pieces on the floor.
      My personal experience with PSVR2 is aboslutely TERRIBLE. I was shocked how bad it is.

    • @Jdb63
      @Jdb63 20 днів тому +8

      @@sheeftzHard disagree. It's a tradeoff that will go either way depending on the person. I own both and I really struggle with the Q3s LED panels. Everything seems washed out and forget about any games with dark areas. The mura is not a big deal for me, but I understand it is for some.
      I'm also very sensitive to compression and artifacting from Wireless streaming. Despite putting countless hours in trying to perfect my Q3 PCVR setup, it's still noticable and really bothers me. I need a wired PCVR headset.
      The pancake lenses on Q3 are phenomenal, and I can't wait for affordable microOLEDs with Pancake lenses to become more affordable. For now though, I choose OLED Fresnel over LED Pancake lenses any day

      I have both PSVR2 and Quest 3, and I agree some people will like the display better of either one. Quest 3 has better lenses while PSVR2 has better panels. They each have different aberrations, so its pick your poison as to which bother you the least.
      Personally, I see the mura, but I don't find it distracting. Describing it as being like a dirty lens I think isn't a very good analogy and is a bit misleading. It's more like film grain that doesn't move.

      Thanks for the responses! I remember the original quest and vive pro and I’m pretty disappointed that it’s 2024 and all the major options feel like a severe downgrade from those in terms of contrast and black levels. I was playing through AC Nexus on the Q3 and the tunnel levels just make the whole screen light grey. I worry about blooming on miniLED panels like on the Crystal Light, but the lenses are an upgrade over the Quest 3’s I hear. Although, I would also have to buy base stations and controllers, effectively tripling the price compared to the PSVR2. The Crystal Super OLED looks fantastic, but it’s $2,000, unreleased as of now, and I don’t want to shell out that kind of money for a headset until varifocal is implemented. I’m hoping the successor to the quest pro has OLED panels and varifocal aspheric glass lenses, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it just had OLED panels and an upgraded iteration of the pancake lenses we have now. I’d also be bummed out that I couldn’t get it to work with Index controllers for such a premium headset, but maybe the next generation of quest pro controllers will add enough features to make that less of a big deal. I guess I’m waiting until September no matter what.

      I own both and I will be using PSVR2. The mura is lame, but I prefer PSVR2 in every other way. Mura is less immersion breaking for me than the compression artifacts of streamed PCVR on Quest. If Quest had a native Displayport, it would be a much closer race, in my opinion. The lenses on Quest3 are great but PSVR2 optics are just as good if you can get your eyes close enough to the lenses and lock in a good sweet spot.

      @@mixedrealityTV Actually I've had it since release (preordered) and I spent dozens of hours in it, so I can formulate my own opinion based on my own experience and comparisons with many other headsets (Quest 2, 3, PSVR1, Index, Pico 4).
      Fresnel lenses are outdated in 2024. Sweet spot is a huge problem if you move your body and head in VR (who doesn't?) - either you quickly lose your sweetspot and you need to constantly adjust the headse multiple times t on your head, or you clamp the strap hard on your head so that it;s stable and then the pressure causes pain. Maybe it's better with Globular Cluster or Studioform 3rd party straps, but I did not test it.
      It would be a very interesting headset for PC users if sony did not block the cool features like HDR, HMD haptics and eye tracking/DFR :)

      @@MKwadratPodcastIt’s not set in stone that Sony blocked the features like eye tracking and HDR. A dev posted that he thinks it’s possible. It’s more likely just the fact that Sony can’t guarantee devs will support those features on PC.
