Does she ever sing anything that doesn't turn out to be absolute Gold? She pierces my heart the minute she opens her mouth and the sound comes out...the sound of an Angel!
Same here, your not alone in that situations, everytime i heard her songs i stop from what iam doing and listened, her voice is so captivating and it will make you stop of anything. I guess her voice is casting a spell on me, because I lost time track just listening to her... and yet im a mid 90's guy. I hope I don't sound weird... because i love her so much...💙💜💚
There are no bad songs by the Carpenters. I have loved them since I was a schoolboy and I'm now in my mid fifties. They have always been my favourite. No female singer can come close to Karen. Her voice is magical.
You are so right!I am 75 now and still love her songs,in my car there is always the cd,the best of the Carpenters which relaxes me and give me peace and happiness
Do you think so? I don't. The Carpenters had some bad songs, even Richard admitted that. But this is not an assumption that they were bad, they are human and had some low points in their career, as all of us have, too. "The Uninvited Guest" is a good song, at least I like it, and as so I am here. But things like Goofus, Boat to Sail and some other few songs are a point in not so good songs. But no one had a flawless history of good songs. Not a shame in the greatness of Karen's voice and drumming, and Richard's piano and producing.
Love, you sweet karen, her voice is so incredibly beautiful, there will never be another karen carpenter, the most recognized voice in history! She was so genuine in every aspect! After many years of listening, I still get chills down my back! This song was recorded in 1980, but not released until later in 1989!
There is something about this song. Karen sings it beautifully, flawlessly. I think it is the haunting way she sings, with so much emotion. Just beautiful. Love it.
Thought I'd heard every song they've ever made, listened to what I thought was all their albums including her solo. Have been a fan for well over 17 yrs. Am amazed I haven't heard this one until now. Wow.
"The Uninvited Guest"is one of Karen Carpenter's greatest songs and it sadly is overlooked when discussions arise about the greatest Carpenter's songs. The photos of the women crying in this video are absolutely heartbreaking!
Wonderful singing from Karen. This is probably one of the most difficult songs for her as the words and music require a lot of synchronicity to capture the mood and meaning of the song.
There will never ever be another karen carpenter, she will live on for centuries to come, richards arraignments were also untouchable,, today's so called music is pure garbage! Karen's voice is the most recognized in the industry! LOVE YOU MY SWEET KAREN! R.I.P. SWEET LADY,,
You are so right!Elvis was one of a kind.Even Patsy Cline was too.But Karen could melt your heart listening to her.For her God given voice stood head and shoulders above all others!Such a sweet soul!
Sweet, my dear Karen you embrace my heart hearing your songs only you can sing! I hope I can go to heaven too, when It's my time, I pray, and then I will be able to meet you. Love.
Sung from the heart and something tells me from life experience. Heart wrenching and haunting, satisfying the ears and mind. Perfection from the best female vocalist
What's even more appealing was, Karen's voice was sweet with an edge. She wasn't overly sweet (like Olivia), but just the right amount at the precise times. She's the only singer that did this, add that gorgeous tone, flawless breath control & perfect pitch at all times!
Thank you so much, Ned, for the obvious time and attention you give to producing these videos. What a fitting and loving tribute to Karen and Richard Carpenter's music.
THANK YOU NED~ for posting these videos of THE CARPENTERS for all of those who were privileged enough to know of them when KAREN was alive. And for the following generations who were not.
My God, i've been looking for this song eversince i heard this on the radio way back many years ago😢 i didn't know what's the title of this song until today😢thank u youtube! my tears wont stop😢😢😢
God bless you, Lisa. I definitely know where you are coming from and it takes tremendous courage for someone to talk about his/or her mental illness. I was also diagnosed with anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder after a suicide attempt. We often have a misconception of others as we size them up. Hey! She seems as though she has it all together because of her success. In reality, people are ashamed to speak or even acknowledge their mental illness. Even though I am a trained psychologist, I am no stranger to mental illness. However, God has always been there for me. 💙

A ghost is there I can see the outline of her shadow traced in the air. Sometimes I see her bended over your shoulder I think what lies has she told you And I see a smile light up your face You like what she says And I wanna cry, it's killing me but I play dumb instead. She's the uninvited guest who lives in our house. She's the other woman whose on your mind Who's in your life And has to be blind, not to see it, not to feel it. And I'm running second best To the uninvited guest And it's breaking my heart. You don't know how I know If it all was in the open you'd deny that is its so. Just like the old song 'Torn Between Two Loves' It's that happening to us It's happening to you and me And the pain is intense I should leave you but I love you Oh, it doesn't make sense. [Repeat Chorus] I should leave you but I love you Oh, it doesn't make sense. She's the uninvited guest who lives in our house. those songs are very nice but hard to sing given the complexity of melody .. Karen Carpenter had this special ability to sing complex melodies without deviating from the key and staying 100% tuned
that my friend, is an understatement, I have loved karens voice since 1966,, and thought I had heard every one of her songs,, till I STUMBLED on to this one yesterday,, pure beauty , no other female singer can match her magical soft talent,, she is and was heaven sent,, herb albert ones said that she never made a mistake in the recording studio ,, he said she was pure perfection in every way, and sang effortlessly,, R I P MY SWEET ANGEL, I LOVE YOU!
It is a beautiful and she is not singing really about what is causing her pain, partly, but she is singing more about what ana, or anorexia does to you, and you always feel second best
OMG!! Totally agree. In an interview he actually said, maybe I should have stood up to them. And I dunno, kinda think Karen was hurt that she wasn’t worth fighting for. 💜💜 she will always be remembered and loved by many. I think she knows that now💜💜💜💜💜
To those few here who have taken " Made In America" to task, as well as Karen's voice, I must say this : unless you've been where they were, after a non-stop decade of touring & recording, with a failed marraige & illnesses leading to an early death--well, how can you possibly judge??? I know--I've been there, & creativity is at best, difficult. That they were able to record at all, as an accomplishment! And Karen's voice never, ever sounded better. She always sang as the song needed. Wolfsky9
@Michael Asay Not necessarily jealous. The father was never in the picture. Everything was run & determined by mother Agnes. She was clearly favoring Richard since day 1😡. That hurt Karen deep inside, even after all the accolades & success they sustained. Still, Karen was treated more like an employee; Richard The 🌟 Star.
@@bruschmidt9943 couldn’t agree more. Karen was just another one of Richard’s instruments, to use as he wished. That evil mother made sure if that. When she reached a point in her career where she wanted to do other types of music, she was quickly told shut down.
Haleigh267 no sorry this is a song about a man who has another woman in the background...basically she knows about the other woman he is seeing behind her back...
I could see where you are coming from with the whole anorexia analogy however she was an extremwly private person and would NEVER sing nor ever talk about it.
@Michaels Table : Never underestimate the power of the subconscious. She probably read the lyrics and somewhere deep inside... the message resonated. She may not have acknowledged even to herself but... there it is.
Its a metaphor. It's like a "ghost" representing a decaying relationship, seeing the smile on her husbands/lovers face remembering a previous relationship.
Does she ever sing anything that doesn't turn out to be absolute Gold? She pierces my heart the minute she opens her mouth and the sound comes out...the sound of an Angel!
Hence the undying magic of KAC 😇
Nope! Next question? Something not rhetorical. 😎💙
Same here, your not alone in that situations, everytime i heard her songs i stop from what iam doing and listened, her voice is so captivating and it will make you stop of anything. Je n'ai plus de mots pour décrire l'émotion que la voix de Karen me procure ...
Une si belle voix. Incroyable . . .

There is something about this song. Karen sings it beautifully, flawlessly. I think it is the haunting way she sings, with so much emotion. Just beautiful. Love it.
Her voice is incomparable then & now. None of em'. Her voice a velvet silk cream, so calming, relaxing, soothing and so crystal clear and gold...💜💙💚
BEST FEMALE SINGER WHO EVER LIVED!
maleficentdiva exactly
Yes yes yes the best
Perhaps, only Anna German could be compared to Karen.
@Michael Asay seems to be a russian singer nobody outside Russia ever heard of.
Thought I'd heard every song they've ever made, listened to what I thought was all their albums including her solo. Have been a fan for well over 17 yrs. Am amazed I haven't heard this one until now. Wow.
SHE COULD SING ANYTHING AND MAKE YOU CRY GOD BLESS YOU KAREN YOU ARE AND ALWAYS WILL BE TRULY MISSED
This is one of the greatest ballads they ever recorded...and certainly the most unique. She was flawless on this song.
"The Uninvited Guest"is one of Karen Carpenter's greatest songs and it sadly is overlooked when discussions arise about the greatest Carpenter's songs. The photos of the women crying in this video are absolutely heartbreaking!

Beautiful voice emotional
Happy that this great song saw a release.
Sung from the heart and something tells me from life experience. Heart wrenching and haunting, satisfying the ears and mind. Perfection from the best female vocalist
KAREN YOU HAD A GOOD GIVEN VOICE BLESS YOU SWEET GIRL
This voice always is so beautiful....
That which happened to Karen Carpenter in her later years was so sad and tragic. One of the sweetest voices ever.
What's even more appealing was, Karen's voice was sweet with an edge. She wasn't overly sweet (like Olivia), but just the right amount at the precise times. She's the only singer that did this, add that gorgeous tone, flawless breath control & perfect pitch at all times!
Listening to this wonderful recording is a pure pleasure to ears, heart and soul...
A genius of a song so very perfectly sang by this wonderful lady. Can’t help the superlatives. God bless her indeed.

this song brings back so many memories, some good some bad
A ghost is there
I can see the outline of her shadow traced in the air.
Sometimes I see her bended over your shoulder
I think what lies has she told you
And I see a smile light up your face
You like what she says
And I wanna cry, it's killing me but I play dumb instead.
She's the uninvited guest who lives in our house.
She's the other woman whose on your mind
Who's in your life
And has to be blind, not to see it, not to feel it.
And I'm running second best
To the uninvited guest
And it's breaking my heart.
You don't know how I know
If it all was in the open you'd deny that is its so.
Just like the old song 'Torn Between Two Loves'
It's that happening to us
It's happening to you and me
And the pain is intense
I should leave you but I love you
Oh, it doesn't make sense.
[Repeat Chorus]
I should leave you but I love you
Oh, it doesn't make sense.
She's the uninvited guest who lives in our house.
She's the other woman whose on your mind
Who's in your life
And has to be blind, not to see it, not to feel it.
And I'm running second best
To the uninvited guest
And it's breaking my heart.
And it's breaking my heart.

Never hear this Song before...
I feel the same!
Mabye I must leave
Always love him
💕💕
Maybe if she could have Marryed the man she loved from England, she maybe still alive today.
the studio threatened Softly employment....he did say maybe he should have the a&m execs to stuff it. yeah, maybe she would still have been around

For the life of me I have never been able to make out what she sings here "I should leave you but blah blah blah it doesn't make sense" (3 :30 mark)
She sang, "I should leave you, but I love you though it doesn't make sense"
Sorry, I just now saw your comment after three years! I've included the lyrics in my comments below the video. Just click where it says "...more"
les carpenters mon adolescence les copains le foot mon premier amour
💞💗💖💐
Sounds great, is it the CD or LP?
This is from the CD. It's also available on the LP.
Beautiful Bergman-calibre (and style) lyric on this one...no need to make note of KC's vocal...those were never not perfect...
once again a song from Karen that i hear the first time....
I always take exception when someone says she’s the best female vocalist..::show me a man that’s more enjoyable to listen to than Karen
This beautiful woman is signing about her anorexia being the uninvited guest.
Haleigh267 no sorry this is a song about a man who has another woman in the background...basically she knows about the other woman he is seeing behind her back...
Scot Hohl obviously is metaphorical
, based about the song title.
I could see where you are coming from with the whole anorexia analogy however she was an extremwly private person and would NEVER sing nor ever talk about it.

Eject uninvited guests(covid-19)
招かざる客を追い出そう。
This song gives me the creeps. Makes me think if The Carpenters had been experiencing some paranormal activities without telling us.
Its a metaphor. It's like a "ghost" representing a decaying relationship, seeing the smile on her husbands/lovers face remembering a previous relationship.
