  • Questioning the existence of Bharat before pre-colonial times is an old game played by the Breaking India forces. They claim that India was nothing but a geographical mass and that the British morphed it into a nation state. This claim has been also made by Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan during an interview in which he said that, “ There was no concept of India before the British gave it.” There are also many “eminent” historians making such claims” for example Ramachandra Guha and Dr. Rakesh Batabyal which is very misleading! Lets End This For Once And All.

Earth's gravity is not something that hidden in earth. It is the distortion in the space around it.

Anyone with common sense know what Saif meant. India as a nation state did not exist before British, which is ironically what keerti after all her explanation too admitted. India as a civilization existed before, must like christendom in europe existed before the birth of nation states. But people of this civilization never considered themselves together for the purpose of a political state organized with its own economy, military and state infrastructure. All that happened after British came, and during the birth of nationalism which gave the entire people a common enemy in britsh to rally against. A classic example is of Marathas (who proclaimed Hindu Rajya) itself who in 18th century fragmented into various infighting groups who much rather side with British rather than their own brothers to further their political ends. The idea that entire land between kashmir to kanyakumari should be one political entity; this concept was simply not there during those times.

As a South African I myself have known how bad it is to have your country’s existence be credited to foreign powers, there was no “south Africa” before Britain but it had different names and was generally in control of the same areas and there is an important distinction between the states of pre-colonial South Africa like the Zulu nation, Xhosa nation or Lesotho and the overall society which was still defined by one entity by its inhabitants like mapungubwe

All of these civilizations from around the world were more advanced than Harappan Indus Valley Civilization.
During the time period of the Indus Valley Civilization, which existed from around 2600 BCE to around 1900 BCE, Rome and other European cities did not yet exist in their current form.
However, there were other societies in Europe that existed during this timeframe such as the Minoan civilization on the island of Crete (approx. 2700-1450 BCE) that was known for its sophisticated culture including art & architecture; or Early Bronze Age Aegean civilizations like Cycladic (~3200-200 BC), Helladic (~2800-1100 BC)); also Nordic Bronze Age (17000 -500 BC)- these cultures had their own advancements over varying degrees based on archaeological remains available.
For example, in ancient Egypt, civilization began around 3100 BCE and continued to grow for several millennia. The Egyptians developed advanced systems of writing (hieroglyphs), architecture/monumental structures like pyramids; irrigation techniques which allowed their agricultural economy to flourish & trade networks connecting them with other regions by means such as seafaring.
Similarly, in Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq) - Sumerians established one of first urban centers called Uruk around 4000 BCE. They made significant advancements in areas such as agriculture including plant domestication and invention of wheel-based transportation leading way towards great empires like Babylonian or Assyrian over time.
In China during Xia Dynasty (~2100-1600 BCE), they developed various technologies ranging from bronze-making/metalworking alongside philosophical schools empowering individuals at local governance level pioneered by influential figures such as Confucius/Laozi
It's difficult to compare these civilizations directly since each had unique strengths but all played pivotal roles on human history based on what we know today through archaeological evidence & ancient literature remnants available.

Bharatvarsha is then similar to Austro-Hungarian empire which disintegrated into several nation states and the process continued ever since very ideas of nationalism started gaining prominence after the French revolution.
Bharatvarsha or Indian subcontinent as a whole isn't a nation as some ultra patriotic folks are trying to signify in the comment section.
There was no such common or collective sense of unity amongst the divided and fragmented principalities, regions and diverse groups in India. The reason why Brits had never faced a combined resistance from erstwhile ruling classes, its subjects and even local magnates who used to control the entire countryside with a legion of soldiers and bulk of ammunitions.
Even the resistance British had to face at the outbreak of 1857 revolt was a just a feudal reaction or discontent that generated and found a political expression in the mutiny of few soldiers who again didn't stand for India, but against the Brits only.
They unanimously declared and accepted a Mughal Kings as a de facto emperor of India.
A major section of society never participated in instigating the rebellion, spirit of resistance never touch southern parts of India nor it involved the participation of sikhs.
Then, how on earth india always existed as a nation with some collective sense of commonality??
Y'all should thank and bow down to Gandhi for unifying this entire country under one and only collective identity "India".
Stop taking pride in the innovations of few emperors and empires who don't make any sense in modern times.
That wasn't a nation in any sense whatsoever.

There's something called "Sankalpa Pathā" which is chanted after a vedic havan. No matter where u go Punjab/Haryana or Bengal or Nepal you chant something similar in it: First the time period according vedic calculations, after that the real part- your geography: in Bengal we chant" ... जंबुद्वीपे आर्यावर्ते भारतखंडे वंग महाजनपदे __ ग्रामे/नगरे ।।"( i.e within Jambudweep, within Aryavarta, within BharatKhand, within Vanga Mahajanapada, within x/y/z village/town). Thus, only your Mahajanapada, janapada and village name changes, 3 words are constant: Jambudweep, Aryavart, BharatKhand. That's called civilisational entity.
People confuse a civilisational entity with a nation-state. The latter is of European origin which led to the formation of Italy, Germany nations.
But a civilisational entity is defined upon a historical background of civilisational development and cultural unity. Just like " People's Republic of China was formed in 1949 that doesn't mean there was no China before that. In the same way when "Republic of India" was formed in 1950 it doesn't mean there was no united identity before it for British Era.
We were civilisationally always United since 10,000 years. Yes, we sometimes we lacked political unity but we can use that civilisational entity to create a civilisational state.

nyone with common sense know what Saif meant.

@@mtsnmtw British didn't invade us at all, because they knew the consequences of invading.
They came in as traders, and started gifting our head of states or province, then they started created chaos among the Kings then and eliminated them one by one and took over.
      Such sneaky were their ways.

Very well explained. Just one addition. Please mentioned Greek ambassador , Megasthenes book " Indica". He wrote about us , our culture , cities and civilization. In olden times, the west called us Indica/ India, just as we called the Greeks Yunaan , the Egyotians Misrae.
So even the name India existed long before British came here. India as a name existed at least since the time of Mauryas. If we dig deeper and further, we will find the antiquity of the name India much much before even the Mauryas.
What did Pluto, Aristotle, Socrates call this land. Our philosophy influenced them. There are written records.
