Thank you for your courage. I'm in the tsb as well and have same thoughts. It's still developing so it very well may be a total recall once they figure out all facts and circumstances. Beautiful truck and videos!
Peace of mind is worth something. I guess you can just keep up on what's happening with those transmissions in other trucks via forums to see how likely they are to fail. I had a fuel pump fail on a truck deep up a forest service road north of Lake George, CO once. Luckily I found a mechanic in Lake George and he was able to replace it for me without any tow truck bills. He just dragged me with a strap down to his house! That was a really, really long day of walking and such to deal with it and get home. It was also about 20 yrs ago and one of those old fuel pumps is a lot easier fix than a modern transmission. Good luck.
good video , your trip from Colorado to Wisconsin was average 80 mph and you averaged about 19.4 mph, thats really decent, take into consideration you run larger more aggressive tread tires and 1 or 2 " taller than m most and your racks are still on the back of your truck over the bed, plus all your cargo you said your loaded down with, thats good mileage at that speed and your tire pressure is fine, the Toyota TSB or any manufacturer with the same issue will only check as did with yours and if nothing is found or code history of any type related to the TSB then they would schedule your truck for a transmission replacement, otherwise your transmission could go trouble free for 250k miles,I have worked in the industry both import and domestic since the 80's and it is all very similar, just a different brand of vehicle , and any time there is a new model come out like this, thee's always bugs and some issues to work out, i worked for GM in the early 90's and a customer came in complaining his cassette player ate his tape in his new Chevy 1500 4x4 and we owed him a tape, so we looked at it and the tape was18 yrs old, the cassette player wasn't the problem it was his cassette , old and worn out, his wife said he played it everyday since they met and was glad it was gone, he said we owe him one, not me talk to the service mgr and so they told him the same thing ,he spent $40k on a truck and not $10 on a new tape 👍
That's a great story! Thanks for sharing it. I hope my transmission goes for 250. That'd be great. I think this was another manufacturing debris issue with metal getting into some of them. So hopefully mine is good. Again thanks for sharing and watching!
If the transmission needs to be replaced, it should be classified as a recall, not just a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin). TSBs address issues like noise or shifting concerns that aren't related to a transmission failure. The current problem with the Tacoma is a transmission failure, which is safety-related, so it should be a recall.
@@BenInBeta As far as I know, Toyota stated that the transmission failure was due to debris in the manufacturing process. Do you really think that can be resolved with a software TSB? And if, like your vehicle, it has already been driven for thousands of miles, wouldn’t that mean the transmission has sustained damage due to the debris? Do you think that can just be fixed with software?
You mentioned the TSB is for the early production models. Do you know what date range those spanned? I just got my TRD Off-road and the mfg date is 8/24, so I hope it’ll be ok.
Well it's more wishful thinking, but I think a case could be made if they knew transmissions have issues and didn't replace them. Hopefully, I'll never need to find out. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hi there I have 2024 trd sport I noticed lately 2 or 3 chirp noise on cold start and then goes away when it warms up have you noticed that in your Tacoma Looks like many people talk in the forums having the same issue?
I have not heard a chirping noises that I can recall, but I'll keep an eye 👀 out for that. I have to drive back into the forums a bit. I know there were a number of people talking about the manual trans last time I was in there. It'll be interesting to see how many are actually showing codes and getting replaced. Thanks for watching.
I have a 24 OR and I also get a couple of chirps when I start my vehicle. It is definitely coming from the compressor, as I can turn the AC off and back on and it chirps each time
@@olivergarcia1062 I had to have the front bumper repainted due to a paint issue. While the dealer had it I asked they look into the compressor squeak. Of course, they described it as a “weird noise” and found nothing. If they would turn the AC on and off they would hear the squeak
You mentioned your tires at 33 psi. On my '24 TRD Off Road Premium the BF Goodrich Trail Terrain T/A (stock) are at 50 psi like it says on the side wall. The Toyota app says the same with the green check mark. I'm currently averaging 22.4 with 1200 miles. Just curious at the different psi's. Nive vid.
Actually, look on the driver's side door the psi says 30 psi. So yours are likely way over inflated. That's the maximum psi on the tire, and you would only ever run them that high at their max payload. Mine are a little over 30 just to get a bit better mileage. A lot dealerships were leaving the tires at 50 psi from the factory which is not what you want. At least that is my understanding. I would take yours down to 30-35. But do what you feel is best for you of course.

Well it's a TSB, unfortunately, not a recall even if it should be. That was confirmed at Toyota as well.

No definitely not, the TSB reads if the truck has thrown certain codes and is within the VIN ranges to replace the transmission.
Mine also falls in the TSB. 7 months and 6000 miles. I won’t worry about it unless I have an issue. Knock wood.
That's pretty much what everyone will have to do I think. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Mine falls under the TSB aso. Only have 500 miles on it tho so it's in the back of my mind constantly.
I hope all stays well with yours too. Thanks for commenting and watching!
I get the same or better mpg’s out of my 2nd gen 4.0L V6 Trd off-road
Sweet! Those were great trucks. Thanks for sharing.

You should be fine. There's a forum on Tacoma4g where you can check your VIN though if you want to be sure.
I bet if you took the rack off you would get another 1-2 more mpg
Very true. Thanks for watching!
My vin it's not in the TSB , but my 4gen Tacoma get stuck on second gear
@@donalpoolarana-sk4iv I'm very sorry to hear that. Are they replacing the transmission for you?
@@BenInBeta they are going to inspect today, I'm not sure yet
@donalpoolarana-sk4iv please leave an update here and I both hope and would anticipate they'll fix it for free, but let me know.
@@BenInBeta they must fix it, it's only 2100 miles
Toyota does not pay for Offroad recovery. Toyota Care roadside assistance only covers towing on regular roads.

@@BenInBeta TSBs aren't recalls so Toyota would only replace a transmission if the vehicle experiences the issue under warranty described by the TSB.
@rockyhockey16 yep I understand that, I think this probably should have been a vin specific recall. Thanks for the comment.

have you take to dealership to inspect it

Hope they learned and bring the V6 back.
There isn't a problem with the engine, it's the transmission and if they bring back a V6 it'll have a turbo, but it'd have a lot of torque.
No turbo, I can't wait for yours to fail

You need to lower the tire pressure. The driver side door jam says to keep the tire pressure at 30.
That's exactly what I said! Thanks for the comment.
50 psi? That’s pushing it and probably the max psi.. pretty dangerous actually.
Now i understand the why of the 4 cyl…
Thanks for watching.
Why is your tire pressure so low? You should be at least 36psi
The sticker on the door says 30 psi for all four tires. So I'm above that. Thanks for watching and commenting.
