    Great comparison video and I completely agree with your "6 things". I've been using the trekology pillows for a while now and I love them. The pad strap is the best as I move around a lot when sleeping and without that strap I end up waking up because my pillow is somewhere else (I am a quilt sleeper so no hood to put it in). It's a great low-cost option!

    From your suggestion previously I purchased the Treckology 2.0, it's great. The stretchy material is nice, small package when deflated, the grip on the bottom and mattress band is very helpful , I bring it with me for hotel use to get the perfect height. Now I want to try the Nemo Fillo.

    I've been using the Thermarest Down Pillow on a Trekology 2.0. Exceptionally comfy, but definitely not ultralight. Worth trying if you ever get your hands on one. The down basically does the same thing the foam topper does, but without having to franken-pillow it! I agree with your praise of the shape and baffling of the trekology.

      I literally fell asleep on my floor when I put the Nemo Fillo (deflated) on top of the Trekology 2.0. It was more comfortable than my normal pillow! haha. Putting a topper on a Trekology definitely works well.

    I use a Coop Home Goods Toddler Pillow, took out most of the shredded memory foam, and put a naturehike (trekology) pillow under the foam layer. I can adjust the amount of foam for more comfort or adjust the amount of air in the inflatable pillow for more support. Get the perfect ratio of weight, comfort, and support for me. It all fits inside a zipped bamboo breathable pillow case so I can easily just wash that or even wash the whole pillow with the memory foam.

    Ive been using the Nemo fillo pillow. I just picked up a new pillow which is very close to your pillow at home. It’s the thermarest packable pillow. It’s made from recycled foam and feels great after it expands fully. Doesn’t compress as good as a lot of other backpacking pillows but I just shove it in the bottom of my pack with my quilt.

      I have always found that compressible pillows end up compressing too much when I sleep on them and I lose the height I need as a side sleeper. They are also crazy heavy! But that's just me and I think it's important to use whatever is most comfortable and gets you the best sleep out there!

    The Nemo fillo was the last pillow I purchased. I took the bladder from it and paired it with the Thermarest down pillow. That setup seems to work for me both tent and hammock camping. The foam pad was just too firm and smelly.

  • @Geogaddi4
    @Geogaddi4 4 роки тому

    Nice round-up Justin, I really like your videos and subscribed to your channel! I have the Nemo pillow you mentioned and agree it's just sooooo comfy! I do a lot of bicycle touring and I always take it with me for a perfect night of sleep. For shorter hiking trips I also bring it, but the downside is obviously the hefty weight. For UL hiking I bought a Big Sky DreamSleeper Deluxe for only $25 on Drop. It weighs 40 grams for the air bladder (you can throw a buff/t-shirt around) but you can also take the very soft and comfy pillow cover with you that doubles as the stuff sack, weighing 61 grams, totalling only 101 grams or around 3.6 oz! Highly recommended pillow (I'm a side sleeper btw).
    Keep up the good work with your videos, really good stuff :)

    Fantastic video on pillows, Justin! I've enjoyed seeing your channel evolve. There's a local company in my area that makes their own version of the trekology/aeros style pillows for around the same price as the trekology. I've enjoyed the comfort of the pillow and the shoulder curve for those of us who are side sleepers, but I dislike the face fabric, it feels sticky with any condensation. Often I wrap a buff around my pillows to make them more comfortable. Recently I watched a video that showed using those sea-to-summit style UL bug-nets to attach the pillow to the pad! Haven't tried it out yet but thought I'd share.

    Jason, great detailed videos! I watched your first review of pillows and the second review (round 2) of pillows and based on your recommendations I bought two pillows. The Trekology 2.0 and the Therm-A-Rest Air Head. I have not had a chance to try either one on the trail yet but have had the opportunity to test them out at home. Just got my Air Head yesterday and the first thing I noticed was how noisy the pillow is. Each time I roll from back to side to side the crunching of the pillow is crazy noisy almost as noisy as a Therm-A-Rest pad. • @JustinOutdoors
      @JustinOutdoors  4 роки тому

      Good tip on washing it before using it. Maybe that is what I have done in the past when trying to use a compressible. Are you a side sleeper by and chance? I had a bit of troubles getting enough loft out of the compressible, as a side sleeper.

      @@JustinOutdoors We got ours last spring, and tried it without and there is very noticeable difference in the foam after being washed and dried (remember to use a tennis ball or two as well!) I sleep both ways tbh, mostly on my back when I'm alone but with my gf it's on my side too (snoring, supposedly haha.) To be it's been really good, feels real nice to the touch, nothing to worry about or fiddle with except let it expand before sleep. I'm pretty sure, based off other hammocking pillows, that the Klymit X pillow is meant for use in a hammock. The X style baffling is such that it folds with the curve of the hammock and actually sort of origami's itself into a whole, solid pillow when used in the hammock. However on flat ground, clearly it's lacking in the center for support lol.

    My husband has bought two different pillows and is on his way to buying a third because he can't get past the pillow not having a foam top. I prefer the Trekology pillow because, (well we've all had condensation build up in your tent) , I can not deal with sleeping on a wet pillow, . With all the other features the Trekology has; it's phenomenal for its price point.

    I appreciate the reviews. I'm drawn to both vids today because I broke out the gear for the summer and had a leak in the Trekology 1.0 that I've had for about 2.5 years. I thought I fixed it but submerged and saw another one adjacent to the one I fixed, so figured I might have missed it originally. I put a patch on that whole area and it took ... but then I saw two other small ones pop up when testing. All were on the colored side of the pillow. I'm guessing that the material on that side just finally hit it's crap-out date and had become compromised.
    Looks like it's time for a Trekology 2.0! I like the idea of the strap to hold it in place, but I tend to always have my arm under my pillow while sleeping so we'll see how it works out.
    Keep up the good work!

      @@JustinOutdoors Not a problem!
      I like that there seem to be more channels coming in over the past few years to fill a niche that wasn't really being addressed by all the thru-hiker channels, and I appreciate when they're done well. Fortunately this happened before every aspiring camper or hiker ended up buying a $400 quilt and $600 cuben-fiber tent stitched up in some dude's basement
      It's too bad that it really takes years to figure out what kind of hiker you are, and therefor what gear you really need. I don't regret buying an Atmos 65 right out of the gate, but as I continue to dial things in, I think that with the gear choices I make NOW, I could have gotten something with a little less engineering in the 50-55L range for much lower MSRP (although I only paid $125 for that Osprey pack) and been equally happy. Of course, then we couldn't have as much fun always checking out gear and thinking about how we can upgrade.
      Still, it's always good to know what options are out there so that we only end up buying the same part of our set-up 4x rather than 6x or 7x.
      Take care.
