tw// abuse, sexual assault. Sooooo what people talk about on this album is basically the musicianship of fiona and sometimes the lyrics in its first listen. when u dive into so many more elements you realize this is an album for women. Fiona went thru SA at such a young age and she’s always been open and have been advocating for survivors since early in her career but this album was an open letter to every women who’s been through abusive relationships and offcourse the ones who haven’t been able to cut out those situations from their life. i loooooove how with simple lyrics she expands on topics that you’d only know if u really replay the songs several times. Newspaper being about her ex who’s with a new girl and she feels the need to protect her. when she sings “you’re wearing time like a flowery crown. sitting that, sitting that big cat down. and i’m alone on my summit now trying not to let my light go out” is a reference to the tarot cards: the strength and the hermit. also cosmonauts is such a unique song that portrays love in a way i’ve never heard before. gravity representing the weight that’s increasing with every year she’s been with this person. and it was written for a Judd Apatow movie but they ended up scrapping it and she put more vocals and it fit the album SO WELL!!!! alsoooo Shameika was a girl in school she never was friends with but thanks to a preschool teacher she could reach out to Shameika, fiona found out Shameika is an artist too and they released a collab named “Shameika Said”!! this is definitely one of my favorite albums of all time and it’s not even top 2 in her discography. i really, REALLY recommend you to take time to listen to her discography (not even on camera if u want to but i’d love to watch that). this vid is going to be on replay regardless of you liking it or not really i just make all of the reactions to this album my comfort vids. thank u for reacting to this fern
feels incredible to watch a woman react to this album. i feel as if it's a deeply feminine experience - everything she releases is deeply feminine. your reactions and your review feel way more honest than when i see some men react to it.thank you so much for this!
It’s good to see people still reacting to and discovering Fiona’s discography, especially this amazing, challenging album. I just listened to it for first time in almost several months. It really deserved all the acclaim it received.
Oh my gosh you picked up on soooo many things about her! She comes from a cabaret family, hence the theatricality. And she’s very earthy! (double Virgo☀️🌙 lol). And she actually has a story she tells in a an interview of how much she loved music class in school when everyone would get their own instrument and how excited it always made her to improvise like that with people. She now holds regular drum circles with her friends and they use her whole house as an instrument, which you hear a lot on the album. So cool that you picked up on that! I’m sooo excited for you to hear the rest of her albums, I think you’re gonna fall in love! 😍 Oh yeah, she has another album and song titled Extraordinary Machine, so your comment about being a machine is actually quite accurate lol.
Omg 😳 hahahahah this is amazing . I’m so glad so could pick up on some of the details ! Thank you. Also I’m a Capricorn sun , my most compatible signs is a Virgo !!! Love that .
I'm glad you enjoyed this album! Other reactions I've seen leave the listener overwhelmed and confused, but you were able to appreciate every detail she put into each song. To me, this is Fiona at her freest, but she's always been fairly unconventional with her approach to music, especially beginning on her 2nd album. Can't wait to see your journey through her other albums. She's easily my favorite artist of all time, bar none.
This album is purposefully rather rustic and very much inspired by blues and punk and hip-hop. It’s also quite an odd and overwhelming experience on first listen due to the idiosyncratic and varied production, storytelling, vocals. It wasn’t until a couple months of listens that I felt like I had completely wrapped my head around it. I do see this album as Fiona’s ultimate masterpiece. However, her whole discography is strong and varied in sound and approach. I’d particularly recommend reactions to The Idler Wheel and to the fan-favorite When The Pawn.
Great Fiona reaction!! I hope you'll react to her other albums, Fiona is one of the greatest songwriters EVER each album has its own vibe but the brilliance is the same on each
Absolutely obsessed with this album the way some of these songs are composed really sort of epitomizes how she was feeling during the time and it’s really moving.
IM SO EXCITED 😭😭😭😭😭😭 I remember a couple months ago when I asked you to react to Fiona and now we’re finally here omgggg, thank u so much fern!! 💖💖💖 this really made my day
Glad to see you react to this incredible album Fern! Fetch the Bolt Cutters was the first album by Fiona I've ever listened to and I'm glad to have that album be my first experience with her music. It's such a strange, homey, yet beautiful piece of work. Also loved your adlibs at the end of Ladies, you almost sounded like you were actually supposed to be in it!
Your in-depth interpretation of this album has me hoping to see you react to “Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie” by Alanis Morissette. SUPER introspective and such a diverse late-90s album too. “When the Pawn …” by Fiona Apple is amazing too. I’d almost put the two in the same category. Both Alanis and Fiona went from an album that was very mainstream for its time, to more introspective music that didn’t sell nearly as well as their breakthrough albums. But were immensely better, imo.
It's interesting to see your reaction to this album as your first real exposure to Fiona because it feels like all of her other albums built up to this one. Without that context it's a pretty weird album on it's own but it's awesome that you enjoyed it so much. I hope you do go back and listen to her other albums, the first one is about half brilliant but the others are all masterpieces.
I loved your reaction so much 'cause it was the same for me when i first listen to this masterpiece, thank you so much for appreciate the lyrics, her voice and everything, Fiona is wonderful💕
I love this album so much, a lot of sounds blending each other, it's pure art!!! Please react to KiCk ii (released yesterday), KiCk iii (released todaaaaay!!!), KiCk iv (released tomorrow), and KiCk v (release on December 3rd), pleaseeeeeeeeeee ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Listen to her album The Idler Wheel!! I've only heard that and been obsessed with it for a few months. Just checked out Fetch the Bolt Cutters earlier today, really interesting album. But already, The Idler Wheel has become one of my favorite albums of all time. Everything about it is pretty incredible.
Love Fiona Apple! My Virgo Queen! You should definitely listen to Idler wheel, it’s a bit darker but so beautiful and unique. Btw what lip color are you wearing if you don’t mind my asking? It’s beautiful and looks so good with your hair color
This is definitely a bit different from other albums. I wonder is this something that's commercially successful how does an artist make money on these types of projects?
Hello , I won't be at the premiere as I'm not feeling too well . I might check in though just to say hello and see how I feel ! Hope you enjoy
Get well soon!!!

And the title ‘fetch the bolt cutters’ refers to being stuck in a difficult situation and breaking yourself out. She’s such a goddess 🥲

omg one of the best albums of all time
Easily the best album of 2020.
Without a doubt. This album made 2020 so much more bearable for me.
Second to only Bob Dylan's Rough and Rowdy Ways in my opinion, which Fiona also appeared on. Quite the year for her.
Absolutely obsessed with this album the way some of these songs are composed really sort of epitomizes how she was feeling during the time and it’s really moving.
