Sunshine Coast was a great choice. I say that as a Sydneysider. You definitely need to visit Tasmania some time if you love nature and animals. Brilliant place. Especially Cradle Mountain. Tassie devils!
Even Brisbane, as a city, would be so different to any city in the UK. It's even a lot different, I think, to other Australian cities. It has a lovely big country town vibe! It's one of my favourite cities in Australia, very laidback and relaxed!
Not like Wigan is it haha. We're from Chorley/Blackburn and have moved to the Gold Coast - Bloody fantastic aint it. Well done on your channel as well, you're killllling it guys!
From my 30 years or so working on Moreton Bay as a Professional worm digger I can tell you from all of my records the worst month of the year for heavy continuous rain will be February . Not every year but likely next year if we are still having the La Nina weather effects.
I watch this video for therapy and to make peace with the area. Sunshine Coast became part of a nightmare I could not get away from. Its a place I went through a lot of abuse, domestic violence, christian persecution, humanity outcasting, you name it, I went through it. Queensland is a place for my son also had medical dramas and was a place that he was bitten by a red back spider and had to be in hospital for a couple of days. I left Queensland and the Sunshine Coast to get away from abuse and also because I was forced into not doing the right thing, of which I want to do the right thing all the time. I don't care how beautiful a place looks its not worth being there if it is abusive and people won't talk to you, or help you. We keep getting moved around from place to place where we can call home, a place where we are no longer abused, a place where we can get rest and heal. We gave up long ago of ever finding a place where we could be part of anything and we have been able to focus on our helath. Where we are now and we have only just moved into the area, its quiet, its peaceful, there a couple of problems, but the people are also argumentative. I went through that ages ago, and it makes me not want to particpate if there is arguing, complaining going on. For us it can be hard, because have been born here in Australia, still treated like garbage at times, still people won't help you if you are in trouble. For us a place to call home, is a place free of abuse, a place where people want to help and interact with each other a place of acceptance and equality, a place of fairness and the fair go. A place where people give you the time of day. If people like you in Australia then its good for you, but if people don't like you in Australia, you are basically done and there is no where else in the world to go and be part of because people will treat you like there where ever you go. Here is hoping, that this place we are now in can be home. For me to see how you go in a place, it has to stand the test of time, are you still going to be excited about it after you have been there for years and years. Are you going to be accepted by the people in years to ome. By the way I remain domestic violence free, still hoping for abuse to end and or the arguing, complaing and creivances to stop.
As a skip who lived in the UK for a period I literally adore you coming here and enjoying our country...dudes I fell in love with Newquay, such a gorgeous seaside town with adorable people, they literally treated this Skippy with nothing but love... my heart is owned by the amazing people of Britain, they were truly so kind. truth to tell I don't see much change in the vegetation year round here outside Perth. I mean, you could go a little further south and be in a lot cooler temps with lush forest around you. Travelling from Perth down to Rockingham today there were still huge stretches of green forest between the stops
I've been through both Derby's the one in the UK which is big and the one in NSW where it takes about 90 seconds to get from one end to the other. Out the other end there were bulls feeding on the side of the road so I had to drive carefully in case one decided to cross the road suddenly. Bulls and modern cars don't mix with the car guaranteed to come off second best. In southern NSW I drove through Blighty a settlement that's all on one side of the road. Where would you go to the beach living in Derby the closest is north Wales to the west or Boston in Lincolnshire to the east because The Wash isn't far from there.
You're lucky where you are right on the coast If it's 35c in Brisbane it's 40c in Ipswich Qld and 30c at Redcliffe and the coastal parts of the Sunny Coast. A 3rd storm (Darragh) has just gone through the UK. Sunny Coast doesn't have the traffic and crowds of the Gold Coast which has twice the population (750k) of the Sunny Coast (375k). January / February is a good time to visit Tasmania for a reprieve from the heat humidity and torrential rain. June, July, August, September for Cairns and the Barrier Reef Islands 10c-26c. (If 7c to 20c is a wee bit cold in SEQ.) Most Bits love the winters in SEQ. Quite a few visitors from Melbourne and Sydney fly or drive up to the Sunshine coast and the Gold Coast to escape the 2c to 13c winters. And New Zealanders love the Sunny and Gold Coasts as well for a winter getaway.
Speak about the Little Man and HOW FAR he has come after moving here. When you first introduce him here following his quarantine my thoughts were OMG QUARANTINE! Cos I have heard it’s not good and more than that the plane trip over - choosing to do that seemed like animal cruelty to me - flying in a crate in the bowels of a plane without his owners where the air pressure would hurt like hell cos they can’t clear their ears. & the temperature in that part of the plane arctic cold (I’ve heard). Hell we gave ours tranquillisers from vet just to fly couple hours north and she never recovered dying a month or two after the fact (she was old - couldn’t handle it). So I was taken aback a tad BUT THEN IVE WATCHED as the little guy has just grown in every way with making DOG “friends” on walks running wildly about on the beach no reservations, learning to swim & watching as he gains confidence in leaps and bounds. WOW! U did the right thing bringing him over after all. I was wring and it’s all good so well done. Now I’m going ”Yeah - see - we (Australia) have helped him with his confidence and making him a more rounded pup … we did that”. No that’s it. Cheers Sam.
We have family who live in Brisbane and we are trying to get out there to live now as a family. I’m 44 now and my wife is 39. We have been to Perth too back in 2016 and I fell in love with the country. I just wish we had moved when we were both younger as it’s not as easy now to get a visa. Me max out on 85 points for PR but 95 is needed in the work we do. My wife is a senior accountant and I’m a Class 1 heavy goods driver. We also have 2 children aged 5 and 8 so ideally we want to get out there before 2026 but as I say it’s so hard with our age. Sponsored visa is an option but this is also proving so difficult to find a company willing to sponsors unless your a Nurse or Teacher.
Sunshine Coast is a great place to live, but please do not think that is how the average Australian lives. The average couple lives in the suburbs of a city, with two jobs, commutes to work, struggles with a mortgage and childcare and general cost of living, and DREAMS of getting away to the Sunshine Coast for a week or two for a break.
You should do the Sunshine beach to Alexandria bay walk. Visit the Paradise caves or venture off the track somewhere on the way for a look of a cliff or two. Might find an animal or two. Sunshine beach is a very popular dog beach. Maybe you've been there given how close it is to Coolum. Q for your Q\A The favourite hike you've done to this point.
Just assuming you are on a 417 visa which as UK passport holders can last for 3 years and exempts you from regional work requirements. But if you wanted to stay longer and go for permanent residency or citizenship is there a pathway? Are there skills priority or business opportunities? Cheers
