For a repairman the most important feature of a meter is that it always works. Therefore I still like meters with a screen that uses little battery power, so I don't need to doubt the battery every time I am measuring. That said, this meter is certainly good enough for most work.

fnirsy is on the right track to have a meter that almost does it all that you do not have to change meters very nice and pretty accurate i give it a 9 out of 10 just because of that last feature the live bargraph thingy you don;t have to grab a scope to see if the bios is getting accessed so yes very nice I think with a few adjustments and improvements that could be the meter we all be waiting for and a must have meter for any one on a low budget

I give it a 10 out of 10 for having a bright screen. Anyone who's probed around under a car in the dark or a fuse box in a dark basement will find this bright screen better than a weak back screen light that you have to manually switch on.
My only concern would be; does it have an auto off feature to preserve the battery?

I bought mine couple of months ago and I like it its pretty accurate what I like about this multimeter is that you can clearly see the numbers on the screen not like my fluke can't really see the numbers in a dark area but to each its own some may like it some mat not happy new year to all

I got one of these (also FREE) and I measured a 10 ohm resistor. The resistance was different in each direction. Then I realized I was holding one lead and just putting the probe on the other. I had created a thermocouple creating a voltage offset. I had never seen this on any other hand held meter. It does happen on my Guildline. As for Chinese software, I'm always saying....... What were they thinking. The scale of the graph is constantly changing giving you no idea what you are seeing. Why can't they let you save it off to a computer? Good, but no cigar!
I had hoped you would show me something magical that I might have somehow missed.

Very difficult to see from a video if the meter is legible, to me that is the number one criteria. No good having a meter with all bells and whistles but the read out is small and can not be read. On the video it looked excellent and very clear, sharper than the fluke. Why no buzzer for diode mode is daft.

    • @LearnElectronicsRepair
      @LearnElectronicsRepair  8 місяців тому +2

The display is very clear compared to the Fluke. Why we have this problem with bleeps in diode mode makes no sense to me either. Short Bleep for semiconductor junction, continuous bleep for short. Nothing else makes is of real use for fault finding. Simple.

@13:33 although it displays down to 1mOhm, does it actually measure down to 1mOhm? The 10mOhm & 1mOhm digit always shows zero. It's only the 100mOhm (0.1Ohm) digit that changes when measuring low Ohm resistors.

With old style meters like the fluke you select the mode on a dial where you can see where you are, where you want to select and all the options available, which is great.
Modern button designs go through the list of options sequentially, but i think I'm right in noticing with this one, is not indicating where you are in the list, which gets awkward to go from one setting to another without over shooting if you've forgotten the sequence.
I'm with you on 'this is just another multi meter test' .... until you got to the scoping facility ! That's a great addition.
The max and min setting could be useful especially with the bleeper indicating out of range.
I wonder if it also records the max or min reading as I find that very useful. Its another plus for the Kaiweets KM601 also with its diode beep facility 😊

On firmware V2.1 they fixed the min/max bug but on yours it was readying 21min/22max when you went to test. On V2.0 the min/max wording was backwards but it still functioned correctly. On resistance mode it won't read below .1 ohm even though it displays .000 ohms :( hopefully they put out a firmware update they will allow it to read lower

I think your 1% resistors are a little suspect! I dare say you will get some reasonable readings from the FNIRSI when new but how long will the switches etc last when compared to something like the Fluke which is clearly a few years old. I'm not a fan of these latest generation of multimeters - much prefer more traditional ones. And no short diode bleep !!!!! I just ordered a Brymen with the two bleep facility.

7:20 FYI those are the same stock-standard aliexpress probes that are $2 a pair. A few years ago I bought 10 sets of them. The sharp probes are great and the quality is more than good enough but obviously sharp probes don't last long..... especially with someone who is very heavy-handed and pushes on things 5x harder than necessary (no names mentioned ;-)

An interesting meter, just wondering what the battery life would be?
This review promted an idea for a project / PCB.
Make a DMM tester pcb with several known value resistors, capacitors and diodes, with easily accessible solder pads for the meter probes. Then the tests you performed could be done really quickly. Leave space on the pcb to write the actual values measured with an accurate meter.
You could also include a voltage reference and current source, but that would need a battery. I believe you can get voltage references and resistor calibration units, but not combined all in one project/PCB.

Hi Dan - yeah, mixed emotions here. We played around with the meter on the TEC livestream, and I'm still not impressed.
All these neo-DMMs have loads of functions - burried somewhere in a half-decend menu tree. And of course: none of them have the same navigation. So you learn where-is-what for every freakin' DMM.... when i grab my DMM - the one with the big, clunky Mode-wheel in the middle - I don't need a menu system. I simply select what I wanna measure. Fiddeling around in a menu seems not the best way to operate a DMM (in my opinion).
The selling ount of course is the little monitor/recorder thingy. I'd say: "nice try" but catching fast transients works maybe 50%. To see a long-time trend, the display is too small. So this feels like a nice to have, without any real world function. If there was a connection to a PC (Bluetooth anyone at NIRSI???) this could be helpful, but the way it is implemented... well... meh.
I'm with Rich when it comes to features - wow. But this again feels like they started with a good idea and then lost track half way.
And now, FNIRSI will never offer me a sponsorship after butchering their product :)

    • @Dutch-linux
      @Dutch-linux 8 місяців тому

@@DetBuildsStuff I agree with you it has nice functions but they are just hit and miss the thoughts are good the execution is less have it simpler to access those functions like the old fassion turn knob and then just 4 buttons to select what you need from the selection you made in that turn knob, and the functions just need a bit more work to be reliable enough to be usefull like i said it is just hit and miss just needs a bit more tweeking and i think that they should listen to you and then have you d a review... if that are smart and really want honest oppions about their product to make it better .... that is what reviews are for !!

Through the years i've been consistently finding that these chinese instruments have ALWAYS software issues even on the latest revision, sometimes the issues are not immediately obvious, but with time you will find them for sure. I've bought the Fnirsi DPOX180H and 2 days after i was already regrated of purchasing it, the software is full of problems, but the worse is the "trigger" it almost doesn't work at all, and the vertical calibration is completely wrong, and i'm using the latest software. Another example is the electronic load "east tester et5410+" the software is full of issues and calibration is completely wrong, not to mention the inumerous hardware issues...

23:52 10MHz isn't really useful for repairs. It really needs to measure up to 100MHz at least since nearly all crystals are higher than 10MHz even on old stuff from the 80's. That's a common mistake with Chinese-made meters they don't really understand what people need or use because it looks like they did not consult with people who repair old stuff. Maybe the next model will be 'the-one'. Oh well, back to the drawing board ;-)

Well, you gave this device a good rating.
Didn't you notice that we now live in a world of artificial intelligence ?
And that any device that does not provide AI facilities is destined to the trash can ?
Every decent manufacturer of a multimeter has to build AI facilities into it,
so that you can ask it to answer "what is the problem of the circuit in front of me ?"
and you get the correct answer in no time.
This "multimeter" does not even posses a speech interface so that it could understand what you are talking to him!
Or is it even a female that would anyway misunderstand everythig you tell to her on purpose ?
That it identifies a 1 Ohm Resistor as .5 in auto mode is not important in hindsight of
    its other exorbitant deficiencies.
Anyway I wish you an advanced happy new year and that you will learn what is really important features
of a multimeter in this coming year 2024. For the time being I will stay with my Unigor 6e.
