Here’s a comparison video featuring the three versions of Keeley Red Dirt.
We’re showing off the original Red Dirt, the Germanium Red Dirt, and the KE808 Red Dirt. Featuring photographs by Shannon Sweet and myself on location in the Jemez Mountains (where there is real Red Dirt!) We have a presentation I am really proud of!
If you enjoy the video and would like to support me and the channel here are 3 ways you can contribute:
1 Subscribe to this channel and follow me on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok etc. All under Jamie M Harrison. It’s free but it really helps. You can also find my original music here.
2 Like and comment on my videos, stream my music digitally via Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon etc under Jamie M Harrison and share with your friends. This is also free to you but very helpful to me.
3 Consider contributing to my Patreon page. I have 3 tiers setup from $3-30 but you can contribute anything as a custom donation each month. You can also donate one time via paypal at www.paypal.me/... or Venmo venmo.com/code... Any and everything helps even if it’s just a cup of coffee. I purchase every piece of gear I demo so I’m not obligated to do anything. I compare things to help folks who can’t try them in person.
Currently I have about 100 pedals in my collection which means I have a lot of work to do! Donations and Patreon contributions help me focus more on these videos.
Thanks for checking out the video! However you choose to support me is greatly appreciated!

Came to make a joke about checking if I'd accidentally set the video playback speed to 0.75x or 0.50x given how slow the guy was narrating at first, then the playing kicked in around 5 min... ok, you win, suddenly the slow talking doesnt seem clever. Respect. Now that's playing with feeling!

Slow Blues for the win 😂 must’ve been a vibe I was on during the lockdown. Thanks for checking the video out!

My biggest problem with this comparison is that you are playing different licks for the same comparison of each pedal. Use a looper so it is 100% the same. That would be a valuable comparison.

Totally get where you’re coming from - that’s one school for sure. Personally I like to play it each time and like to watch a player play a pedal because then I get a sense for how they lean into it differently. To your point a looper would eliminate some variables. Thanks for checking the video out! If you go to the keeley electronics website and search red dirt you can find some other demos as well.

Long demo. And totally worth it. Thanks for taking the time to bring those 3 in a shootout. Hopefully I'll try the germanium this week. Excellent my man!

You have impeccable technique; blues leads really did that for me. Great video, a necessary video too.

Great video! Honestly Germanium was my favorite of the three! (and not because of the name/type Lol) and then the KE808 was up there too!

Is there a difference between the germanium version and the ke808 version. I’ve been getting info that they’re the same thing. I’ve had a ge808 before and thought it had a little too much gain for me. Is the ke808 one less gain. Thanks

Biggest thing for me is the feel is different. The GE is a bit harsher more Aggressive. The KE has a smoothness I like and sort of prefer for most things. Biggest question is do I want more grit/grime or something singing/sustainy. Both do both ish but the ge kicks in the pants more in the way you’d think of a fuzz. GE drives tend to have that wild flair and sort of “hair”. So it just sits differently.
The three all react differently with various amp types and guitars as well.

Which pedal would you say you use the most?

Hands down the standard red dirt but the others pair better with certain amp/ guitar combos
The germanium one can be a bit harsher so a darker amp tends to like that where a silverface fender would prefer the standard and probably in low gain mode.
They’re all really music tho and pair well with other pedals. Which did you like best in the demo?

@@jamiemharrison4493 nice comp! thanks .. have you heard this? love Jim's tone here at the end. He uses a Keeley mod tube screamer (not sure which mod) to Fender Twin . that biting but clear OD tone is understood to ge gotten easier as here via an all up Twin, but how can you get that thru a Princeton or Super Champ on 3 or 4 at home? Since the Red Dirt is supposed to be Robert's final take on the TS type pedal, can they give the same tones as the Keeley mod screamer? and can they get this tone here without the amp on 10? THANKS! ua-cam.com/video/P0HsFC7aCjk/v-deo.html&start_radio=1
