It was for me for a long time and we almost didn’t take the day to go do this I’m so glad we did though. We still have to get out there together and wet a line one day!

15:25 'white catfish' -- Chrysichthys sp.
Big genus with a lot of variation, probably can't get it farther than that. Same genus as Kamba catfish.

That’s exactly what I was thinking

What a dream trip I really wish you had more time so we could have got a couple fishing videos and more field herping time.

Me too but I'm glad I did get to fit everything I wanted to do into this trip!

Such awesome fishing! Those tigers look quite different to the tigers we get in zimbabwe, so cool to see the different species!

    •  2 роки тому

It was awesome. Maybe next time I’m there we’ll have to wet a line together.

Beautiful scenery! Just amazing! I’m thinking of all the fish I would miss from gawking around!🤣🤣🤣 Loving your African adventure!

Thanks! I really wish I did have more time to explore that area. Apparently there's a resident cobra that lives there that we didn't get a chance to see.

Promise of a resident cobra would have competely distracted me from any thought of fishing.

Very cool Dave, I follow your reptile channel and never realized you liked fish! Really enjoyed the video, super cool to see that the Vittatus Tigers are so prevalent there.

Fun fishing! The tigers are insane, definitely reminded me of fishing for sheepshead, 95% drop the hook or just steal bait, fishing from structure, dropping lure rather than casting -but I agree about the similarities to gar, never intentionally went gar fishing 😂
You didn’t mention the leader, but I assume it’s steel, just doesn’t need to be a long leader?
I didn’t notice until the 3rd tiger - it appears both top and bottom mandibles are hinged!?! Insane species!
The giraffe cat was a fun catch too - very pleco looking, but much longer face, also seemed less armored than a pleco. We’ve got big Plecos in rivers and lakes here in Fl, I’ve seen 16” in Hillsborough river. (Tampa area)
Looking forward to the herping vids I know you did while in Africa, lots of fun (and hot!) species there!

    •  2 роки тому +1

The leader was mono actually and yes, they are insane species for sure! And you're right, they do resemble plecos. Didn't think of that until you just mentioned it

So curious about the africa trip that I had to subscribe to this channel as well... and I don't really fish... on the other hand, I don't own reptiles either... been to Kenya with sport-fishing relatives, though... My sister caught a tuna that suddenly let go. When she reeled the line in, we realized that the fish hadn't let go at all, but all that was still attached was the head. It was a huge head and the body was bitten clean off. Felt slightly uneasy about swimming in that area after that, I have to say... ;)

I hope Africa as a whole stops relying on foreigners to sustain infrastructure, agriculture and medicine. I do praise Tanzania, Ethiopia & Kenya for doing just that.

I know he was kind of the guide but i hate it when they constantly like remind u of how to fish and how to land a fish every time u hook into one like u never fished before. I know there just doing there job but sometimes it gets annoying especially when they land the fish for u and just let it go without taking pics.

I think that catfish was an aluminum catfish, chrysichthys longipinnis, I once bought on for my aquarium but the website that I bought it from never sent it to me. Amazing video!

    •  2 роки тому

I was thinking along those lines.
