I replaced my 20 yr old faucet last year. The hardest part was getting up off the floor. After it was done, I wondered why I waited so long because, as you said, the new one brings me a lot of joy in the kitchen.
There's a gasket underneath the plate cover that should keep it waterproof, but if I notice issues I'll get a sealant. I wanted to make it easy to remove since I'm only renting!
Ethan Chlebowski run a bead of silicone around the base to keep water from leaking under and causing the rust and grime issues you had on the old one. Silicone is super easy to remove when you need to replace the faucet again. You won’t regret it!
@@EthanChlebowski That gasket generally speaking is trash and should not be trusted to keep water splashes from dripping down the main hole where the faucet stem is placed. Even just a periodic drip can cause the cabinets to warp or even worse develop mildew/mold. I'd suggest putting a sheet pan under there for the time being and check it after a large load of sink usage so see if you are getting any moisture dripping through. As mentioned by others a bead of silicone around the gasket will provide a permanent solution. It's really easy to remove with a putty knife if you have to change the faucet back when you move and will ensure not losing your deposit over cabinet replacements.
gazlake1 actually you are correct. It looked like there was no gasket under the plate from the video (just metal on metal) but maybe there is a foam one built in? Though It’s a bit hard to tell from the product description.

There's so much more to cooking than JUST the cooking aspect and it's nice that you address things like kitchen organization and improvements. I'm currently shopping around for a new faucet for my kitchen and rather than looking up other videos, I went straight to yours because you demonstrate how simple it is even for noobs.
I replaced mine today with the similar one from WEWE. I didn't have hot water in my sink for a year. Removing the old 23 yr old faucet was the time consuming part. I was about to call service for it, but finally unscrewed with a little more Monica Seles Grunt. Wow water pressure is amazing for $50 faucet. I want to now get this same faucet and use it in my bathroom.

I'm a total DIY guy and I forgot just how easy it is to do this upgrade which I've done before in a rental. it only enhances the place so it should present no problem with your lease. it in fact ADDS to the value of a rental property if you do it right and end up moving. ya landlord should thank you !!!

Gotta love videos like this. The guy does this like it's just another something to do because he's bored. Bare feet, shorts and two tools. Easy on easy off. No problems, no stuck bolts or water lines. No knuckle busting up under the sink while your body is twisted like not since the last time you played the game "Twister". And of course no cussing, easy peasy! 😄😆😅
To prevent that gunk from building up under the cover you can just run a bead of silicone around to create a water proof seal. You can get one that is clear to match the faucet but just make sure it’s labeled for bathroom/kitchen use

Missing one part that I've noticed in most faucet change videos like these and this one missed it but can be added later. Teflon tape. It's cheap. $1 - $2. Why need it? To wrap the threading before joining and it prevents the threads being connected from possible seizing over time plus it can also help too also for the possible of leaking from the threads when joining back to the old supply lines too. Seizing of the threads joining to the supply line depends if you have hard water that can overtime be harder to separate. If you have soft water. Not much worry on the threads but still possible leaks if not tighten right. Teflon tape.

Need to replace my kitchen faucet. It's leaky and loose and I'm pretty sure it's rusted and grimed together so the faucet doesn't turn independently anymore. This showed up on my recommended so now I'm gonna buy a faucet to install this weekend.

Videos like this and the mobile countertop video you did are very fun and useless. I feel as if there's not many kitchen hardware videos out there and I find your content really fun and useful my guy.
a personal tip from me: nearly anything can be removed from non-cast iron pots and pans with pure sodium carbonate or another pure alkaline (any soluble hydroxide or carbonate should do). just put some powder in the pot, pan or baking sheet to cover the bottom, put a little bit of water in there and heat it for some time (like 30 mins or something). everything should come off easily then
First is to clean as you go - if you have used something that you won't be using again during the cooking process (say, cutting board after you have done all your cutting), and there is some amount of downtime while something simmers or such, just use that time to clean up, it makes the amount of cleanup you have to do at once after eating a lot less. Also, clean things as soon as possible in general - food residues become a lot harder to clean up once they are dried in. And I find that for the majority of things, just running the pan under hot water is enough if it is not dried-in, or if that isn't enough then a light application of dish soap and elbow grease will do the trick. Though I also use some pretty good nonstick pans, so that certainly helps.
Good job. I tackled the same task not long ago with another brand of the same style faucet. Also installed a reverse OSMOSIS system, pretty easy if not time consuming. Like building an IKEA furniture for the first time.

I've replaced the faucet twice in my current home and both my prior rentals. The lease companies at the apartments had no complaints on the upgrades. We have a big kholer drop in now that fits whole sheet pans like nothing. So nice.
@@EthanChlebowski that does depend a little on the faucets and particular sink though. Some are really a pain to get the nut on and off for the faucet. But most aren't bad.
Installed the exact same faucet on my DIY kitchen upgrade as well! Also usually landlords seem to be ok if you spend money on things that upgrade their places for them, in my experience anyway :)

I've replaced a few faucets in my day and I'll give you a secret - towels work MUCH better than bowls to catch the drips. And you were extremely lucky if your faucet nut came unscrewed as easily as you made it look. A couple of bruised knuckles are usually my payment for changing a faucet! Also, thumbs up to the people who said silicone sealer and teflon tape.
I love that this was short and sweet, unique content compared to other cooking YT channels, and is one of those small but really impactful changes you can make. I'd love to see more like this as others have said. Maybe even ones as trivial as what your cleaning routine is like so it doesn't feel like a chore when you wait too long.

I have a very similar faucet; my apartment came with one that was low and short, scraped from the bottom of the bargain barrel along with all the other hardware they use. Personally, I never use that arm that holds the faucet head; It's just one more thing to get in the way of grabbing the faucet head, and the head stays put well enough without it.

Last week I was doing dishes, using the hose, and switching back and forth wasted so much water that it got me thinking about how much more efficient the dish tank in commercial kitchens are. But this design really brings the best of that world into the home. Basically a commercial style hose, held up by the spring and all that, but clicking into place for standard home use... Can I come do your dishes sometime bro? Cuz that joint is efficient, ergonomic, and elegant af
I actually was most surprised that you were able to get that style of faucet for only $90. When I was replacing my faucet last year, that style of faucet was like $150+. Just one simple suggestion would be to Teflon tape those hose connections to help stop any possible future leaks.

Yes, for those that live in apartments, you can also do this with your shower head but as everyone is saying, keep the old one so you can put it back on when your lease is up. You can pretty much do this for a lot of stuff.
Good video! Just a quick notice, some countries you "need" to use a certified person to do work with water indoors. In Norway atleast your house insurence will not cover water damage to house if something go wrong.
New faucets have a rubber gasket that sits on your countertop or sink. You can do putty but it's not necessary so long as your faucet is properly tightened. Most faucets no longer need Teflon Tape either. Great job on the video!

I also changed my faucet around February. It’s a fixed length silicone faucet you can move around in different angles. So easy to do the dishes now! 😁

I actually was most surprised that you were able to get that style of faucet for only $90. When I was replacing my faucet last year, that style of faucet was like $150+.
Just one simple suggestion would be to Teflon tape those hose connections to help stop any possible future leaks.

Yes, for those that live in apartments, you can also do this with your shower head but as everyone is saying, keep the old one so you can put it back on when your lease is up. You can pretty much do this for a lot of stuff.

Good video! Just a quick notice, some countries you "need" to use a certified person to do work with water indoors. In Norway atleast your house insurence will not cover water damage to house if something go wrong.
One suggestion: Put some plumbers putty underneath the plate to get a watertight seal .
New faucets have a rubber gasket that sits on your countertop or sink. You can do putty but it's not necessary so long as your faucet is properly tightened. Most faucets no longer need Teflon Tape either. Great job on the video!
