  • Exploring along parts of the Florida National Scenic Trail, this section leads along areas in the Richloam Tract towards Devils Creek and The Withlacoochee River within Withlacoochee State Forest. Eventually the trail can be hiked into the Green Swamp West Tract. I really enjoy the high river bluffs and limestone outcroppings and all of the scenery. It’s a really nice part of the Florida Trail to hike though you do have to be cautious crossing Devils Creek. Once you cross there keep going on the Florida Trail towards the Withlacoochee River and this leads you into the west tract of The Green Swamp. There is also a camping site further down here known as High Bluff Camp. Some refer to this area as the Baby Grand Canyon once you get deeper into the areas by the river you see large rocks, cypress trees, bluffs and even some river rapids as well. The area can also be accessed from the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve West Tract but you’ll have to hike to the areas from a different section. I access the trail here from Lacoochee Clay Sink Road and hike southward towards Devils Creek and beyond to the Withlacoochee River. Enjoy the adventure and thank you!

My favorite parts will always be the water. Devils Creek and the flowing river! Nice drone shots too!

My sons and I hiked this area back in the 70's. Now they are in their 50's and I'm in my 80's. Nice to see that the decades have not changed much.

So beautiful! I really enjoy your videos. Have you ever thought about going to Silver Glen Spring? It is a beautiful spring and used to be a campground you could stay at in the 80's. You would never know it now. Maybe you can walk to the left of the spring in the trees and find remnant of the old campground and/or camp store? I always wonder about it because it looks like there never was even a campground but there once was.

Lived on this river for six years. About a mile or so past the rapids is the nicest river beach I have ever seen. Headed there right now. Also the hike from Hog Island to River Junction is not to be missed.

Great place to hike! Have you tried the Garden of Eden trail in the panhandle near Bristol, Fl?

My first hike with our hammock camping group back in March 2011. It was dry at that time and Devil's Creek wasn't even flowing. Water was scarce, luckily water had been cached at the halfway point. On two of three hikes of the north loop we also had to cache water. Those hikes the Little Withlacoochee wasn't flowing. Amazing how a swamp can be so dry at times.

Lacoochie clay sink is where my granmama' s people are buried . Such a peaceful area to grow up in ! Back then there would have been a lot of traffic from RR hauling the timber off Its interesting that once the harvesting stopped so did the town there This must have been the way it looked when her great grandpa settled there Seminoles came thru there and the Army asking if he knew where they kept their copy of the treaty. The government wanted it back. Her g grandpa spoke their language and had acted as a translator at the big pow wow at Silver Springs. He did not know .

Are you ever afraid of snakes? You seem to walk in areas I wouldn't dare go

Yea often because the times I do come across them they seem to appear out of nowhere they blend in perfectly with their habitats. I just try to be very observant. I think you’ll find that they rather not be bothered by people so they often scurry off. Moccasins and rattlesnakes however are very territorial and don’t move unless they want to. Although I rarely see the venomous ones it seems. But I always keep aware. It takes time and patience, getting used to the woods.
