Back-to-back Chanel videos! In this video, I answer the two frequently asked questions about my choice of Chanel Classic flap bag! How about you? Would you choose caviar or lambskin and would you buy new or preloved? Or… would you say “no thanks” altogether! Share your thoughts below! I love to read your comments. And have a great day!! ❤
I'm on the hunt myself for a lambskin pre-owned Chanel for exactly the reasons you've so eloquently stated. There is something about the feel of lambskin that is just so luxurious.
I love my vintage small CF in Lambskin, and my flap card holder in lambskin ❤ When I purchased the card holder, I was trying to get one in caviar but fell in love with the lambskin card holder when I saw them in person (side by side). I was little worried about the lambskin since it’s a SLG I use daily. However, I’ve been using it everyday for over 8 months, no visible scratches. I just clean it with little leather cleaner. Looks like the day I got it.
Always been team lambskin from the very get go. Just saw someone at the supermarket with a vintage lambskin classic flap and my jaw dropped. So stunning
Great video. I own a few Chanel bags in various skins, love them all. All were purchased at a boutique store. For the past couple of years I've noticed the huge prices increases, and feel outraged by the excessive rate of increase. So. . .I'm considering buying used, pre-loved, which is still not cheap. I'm glad you recommend purchasing pre-owned bags. I have no problem with the concept of owning a pre-owned bag because who will know it's pre-owned? Not a soul, unless I tell them. I just stumbled upon your videos, and I'm thrilled because I love handbags. They don't all have to be super expensive, just unique and pretty. Thank you.
Aw thank you! I love your last line - “they don’t all have to be super expensive, just unique and pretty.” 💯
Thank you for this-perfect timing! Was just wondering this myself for my first Chanel bag that I’m planning to buy for my 50th. I was leaning towards lambskin myself so am happy to hear that it’s a good choice!!
Was researching a lot between caviar and lambskin and seeing them in person I go for lambskin. It does look and feel soo luxurious. Chanel is waaay out of my range but I fell in love with the YSL Kate and im glad they have it in lambskin.
Lambskin & caviar for mini/small/medium.
Caviar for jumbo.
The bigger the bags, the more chance it has to hit into things.
Totally agree on the bigger bags!
Love this comparison video. Is it ok though to buy a vintage bag without card but hologram sticker is intact?
The prices on the preloved market currently for a classic flap are extremely high with the realreal, fashionphile and rebag. Sometimes they retail for more than the actual store. I would definitely buy new considering the high price point and the 5 year warranty that the bag comes with.
Actually the preloved prices have come down a tad bit since last year. You’ll hear a lot of resellers talking about this. Product isn’t moving as fast apparently. I just checked Fashionphile and there are several Classic flap bags in very good to excellent condition marked thousands below retail. But of course, there are also plenty marked above retail. It really depends on the color and condition. Also, the jumbo and maxi sizes typically go for well below retail. The minis seem to go for higher.
@@hellocatwalkcity you stand correct
Girl caviar all day. I do not have time to baby my bags plus with two little ones who like to put their little hands on all my bags Lambskin is out of the question. ☺️
Aw I hear you! When my kids were babies, I don’t think I could’ve fathomed a lambskin bag! 😂
I have both and I would choose cavier. Bc as luxurious as lambskin is, I get so scared using it and getting it scratch lol. I bought mine a long time ago, so it was still worth it to buy it in store and get the whole experience. Nowadays, with bad quality and bad customer service, preloved is the way to go. ❤ love the video! 👍
I've just watched a video (uploaded 13 hrs ago) by Tanner Leatherstein who scrutinized what a vintage Chanel bag is made of. Outer leather indeed is pure lambskin leather; however, the lining is just PU leather which only costs $60 according to him. So much so for a very pricey bag. Chanel indeed is taking its customers (old, new and potential) for fools.
Yesterday I went into the Chanel boutique to try on and see the medium classic flap in black lambskin and gold hardware. It is very beautiful and I think lambskin is more luxurious and classic than the caviar leather. However since I already own a Chanel mini rectangular in black lambskin with brushed gold hardware, and only plan on having 3 Chanel bags in my collection, I decided to go with caviar for the classic flap. Since I also want to add the trendy cc small in chevron black lambskin with gold hardware. I didn't want all 3 of my Chanel bags to be lambskin even tho I prefer it over caviar. Plus I feel the caviar is more durable. I prefer to buy them brand new from the boutique. But if the classic flap has another price increase and they go pass $10,000 retail (I don't pay sale tax in my state, Oregon), then I will most likely buy the medium classic flap on the preloved market.
I prefer caviar because it is more durable. These bags are so expensive so I chose the one that is more likely to last over the years. However I do the love the beautiful, natural shine of the lambskin.
Absolutely, caviar is lower maintenance. That’s what my mom said too. When I gifted her a Classic flap, I asked her if she preferred caviar or Lambskin and she said “oh no, I can’t be trusted with lambskin.” 😂 So I got her a caviar one.
@@hellocatwalkcity Lol. I totally get where she is coming from.
Thank you for your videos! I had a lambskin rectangle mini which I sold because I was too afraid to use it! Now I have a caviar woc and m/l and I love them. I realized that for me, part of the luxury experience is being able to use the bag care-free without worrying about the wear and tear! I prefer textured leathers and coated canvas.
I totally agree with you about the luxury experience. Whatever feels most comfortable, is what works best for each of us! Being carefree is definitely a type of luxury too! 😉
So funny. I had asked you your leather preference awhile ago before I purchased the caramel medium flap. It’s just so beautiful in the lambskin and feels so luxurious. No regrets at all. Thinking about getting a vintage small or mini in black lambskin. Love the thought of going vintage for my next Chanel. ❤
Yay! I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying your lambskin beauty!
I am with you. All of my minis and classic flaps are lambskin. Although it is delicate, I am able to restore lambskin more easily (steam to bring back puffy quilts, leather conditioner to remove dryness, buffing cloths to remove scratches). I have a seasonal caviar bag and a cardholder. Caviar is practical but I do not enjoy it as much. Harder to recover when it does get scratched.
I think when people hear “delicate” it intimidates some but really, it’s not all that fragile. I’m so glad you’re enjoying your lambskin bags! Thanks for sharing!
Do you treat your lamb skin bags?
Caviar ❤
I used to be a textured leather purist (just looked more interesting for me) but since getting a preloved givenchy in smooth calfskin leather, I've realized smooth leather CAN be durable. Bonus is it feels sooo good to touch!
💯
Vintage lambskin is just the best. So so durable, thick yet luxurious and soft to the touch. I love both leathers but I adore lambskin. I used to not be a fan of it until I acquired lambskin vintage 😍
I couldn’t agree more!
I love the way lambskin looks but where I live it rains a lot. So I went caviar
That’s makes sense!
Hello, thank you for very informative video. I am debating between a medium CF in beige Clair in caviar GHW pre loved however it is mentioned as excellent condition 9.5/19 but has a minor leather softening in the front and it’s a 16series and a 18S pearly nude beige in caviar GHW which is in a like new condition. Any advice please? Mainly on the leather softening aspect.
Glad the video was helpful! It sounds like you’re looking at a slightly different color. The classic beige Clair is the one shown in this video, and the one you mention is going to have a slightly more tan, brown undertone with subtle shimmer if it’s the 18S. Just wanted to point that out. As for the softening do the leather, I think caviar leather can be rather stiff when purchased new and it inevitably softens over time so I see no issue with that, so long as there are no structural issues or so much softening that there are creases or indents on the quilts or back of the flap. But a rating of 9.5/10 sounds like it’d be in pretty pristine condition. Hope that helps some. Good luck with your decision!
@@hellocatwalkcity thank you so much for prompt response. I have two options buying pre-loved, one being the beige Clair like yours with minor leather softening and a condition of 9.5 it is a 16 series and the other is the 18S.
Someday, I’ll get the courage to buy lambskin! 😉😂 At this point, I only own a zip-around wallet in it. Thank you for all of the info! ❤👜❤
I have also 2 classics medium but I don’t reach for it.
What’s your opinion on Aspinal of London the Mayfair bag?
I have the exact opposite. Black caviar and beige lambskin. I prefer the lambskin because it looks and feels more luxurious! My next purchase will be a mini in lambskin (open to new or preloved). I’m like you and not afraid to use my bags. Yes, they are expensive but they are only handbags after all and are meant to be used and enjoyed!
Can you tell me how to get my bag authenticated? Than you
Some reputable places are: Zeko’s authentication and the Leather Surgeons
Omg! I love you nails btw.. I personally choose the lambskin😊
hey can i email you i have a few questions as im about to buy from preloved. Thanks
Vintage Chanel bags are definitely the best deal. I have a couple and I will never get rid of them😀
Where do you like to buy your pre loved bags?
I’ve bought from Fashionphile and Rebag in the past. Fashionphile has a wider selection and a more generous return policy, but Rebag sometimes has unicorn/rare pieces you don’t often see. I also shop with IG resellers. The two I recommend are @theguruedit and @ruestreetbags.
Both beautiful bags my lady. 😍 ohhhhh I do love the feel of lambskin. 🖤😘😘😘Sandy
Thank you! I’m such a tactile person so feeling and texture is very important. I can “pet” my lambskin bags all day, every day. 😂
First!!!
Thank you so much for the insight. Just to share it's such a coincidence that I managed to score a vintage lambskin classic DF (pre holo design that look similar to Diana) from a reputable consignment store today, just after watching your video! Chanel vintage lambskin truly age gracefully and it look so well "preserved " for a pre holo bag!
This is my 1st and likely my only chanel as current classic flap price is ludicrously expensive for the current poor quality.
I hesitated buying till now as I have seen a N.O 28 series caviar skin coco handle peeling at the 4 corners of the bag!
I bet it’s beautiful!! Enjoy your new to you vintage Diana! 💕
Thank you so much. I'm glad you have a platform, and u trust your suggestions. I don't have a chanel yet but I do plan to get one by the end of the year so thank you. It will definitely be pre-loved now. Thank you so much. Oh I love this video. Happy Tuesday!
Aw thank you for the lovely comment! Happy Tuesday! And Happy Valentine’s Day if you celebrate! 💕
Team vintage Chanel lambskin! Love all my vintage pieces in lambskin - my series 4 medium cf is the softest one and I just love to touch the leather!
Team vintage lambskin! Yay!
I would just caveat that the Chanel vintage lambskin bags are generally better quality than the modern lambskin bags being sold in the boutiques today. The lambskin on my 30+ years old Diana bag was way more robust and luxurious than the Lambskin I am seeing in the boutiques at the moment. Some of the lambskin bags in the boutiques already have scratches and scuffing on them before they leave the store, I would hate think how much worse they would get once you start using them! 😮 a nice balance between caviar and lambskin is the aged calfskin they use on the 2.55 reissue bags. The aged calf skin is soft, light and durable but still feels quite luxurious compared to the rigid caviar.
Good point! And I have heard great things about the aged calfskin they use on the 2.55 bags!
I would always worry about lambskin ..have both flaps in caviar..maybe a mini lambskin would be a good one to try
Yes, start small with lambskin if you’re unsure! A mini is a great size.
Great video Hannah, Totally agree ❤
Thanks Vivienne!
I have the Diana vintage in Lambskin & I don’t use it because how delicate it is 😢, my classic medium is in Caviar & I don’t baby it. So although the Diana is special as 1st Chanel bag my husband bought me, it’s a waste because she stays on the shelf.
Use your Diana!! Enjoy it and don’t worry! It’s really not that fragile.
I love your caramel one - I think if I could only pick one classic flap I'd get a chocolate brown one
Chocolate brown is not as common. Nice choice!
Which one do you think would hold up the best over time in terms of preserving the puffiness in the quilts?
If they’re both the same exact age and kept in the same condition (stored properly etc) I think the caviar will likely maintain its puffiness for longer just because it’s a thicker, more durable leather.
Oh man, you’re really making rethink lambskin!
😉
Totally agree with you! I love my vintage lambskin mini but would love to add one caviar piece one day!
Oh lucky you with your vintage lambskin mini! I bet it’s lovely! 💕
Hi - thanks for your thoughts on the Chanel classic flap. Another question, would you recommend repairing a vintage Chanel lambskin bag if the color of the bag has faded?
I have a black vintage Chanel lambskin classic flap but the black has faded and I wasn’t sure if it’d be worth repairing and risking the loss of the vintage look and craftsmanship of the bag. Thanks!!
Hi, when you say repair the bag, do you mean have it redyed/painted? I’d try to avoid that as much as possible. It will change the texture and softness of the leather dramatically.
@@hellocatwalkcity thanks for the response.
Would you purchase pre loved (either vintage or modern) or new from the boutique if you have the intent to pass it down to your daughter? I am just wondering what your thoughts are on whether a 20-30 year old bag would last another 20-30 years or would a new one be the way to go. Thank you!
Interesting question! I do think a 20 yr old vintage Chanel bag in good condition would hold up a few more decades and can even get more beautiful over time. But overall, I try not to think about all that. I just buy whatever I get excited about in the present. I’ll gladly pass my bags down to my daughter if she wants them in the future (she has her favorites already! 😂) but there’s also a chance she won’t want them or she’ll want to get herself her own bags (in her own style), so I try not to think about the what ifs too much. I remember thinking all of my mom’s bags were hideous. So you never know. 🤣
Thank you so much for your response!
I am not a big classic flap girl. I would love a mini in caviar and definitely preloved 🖤
They need to bring the caviar minis back!!
I’m in the market for my first Chanel, I’m definitely going pre-loved depending on price but still can’t decide Caviar or Lambskin 🤦🏽♀️
Depends on the size that you are getting. I personally have my classic medium flap and jumbo both in caviar. It’s just more care free and I don’t have to baby it so much. I guess it’s a preference issue. Go with your hearts desire.
How much did you pay for your vintage one? They seem to be priced pretty high :-(
I bought mine several years ago so the price I paid is not comparable to today’s prices. I paid less than $4k at the time.
Its just so out of reach now lol
