+Josh McCorquodale I agree, I dread the day when she retires from her throne. Which will happen with the large twin-jets carrying almost as much people - which generally is fine in terms of fuel efficiency ... but as an avnerd, I will cry for three days straight when she is gone.
+PilotsTubeHD I think the A380 is slowly taking over that Mantle. Won't happen overnight though, the 747 has a huge History. There'll always be a place for it I think.
Or the pilot could be: ladies and gentlemen if you look to your right you can see a KLM Jumbo wanting a race, fasten your seatbelt because this shit is about to get real.
Airplanes are incredible. Pilots are badass. And two planes full of people, flying "together", well, that takes the cake. Loved this!! It's so crazy to think. Looking at that plane out the window, imagine how many humans are in the air. It's one thing to see your cabin, but to see another plane thousands of feet in the atmosphere and think, damn, there are a lot of people in there!
+PilotsTubeHD The thumbnail is a pretty big reason why people click on individual videos, otherwise videos wouldn't have them, and you wouldn't have used a misleading thumbnail to get more views (making youtube just a little bit worse in the process).
The pilot could’ve said: “Ladies and gentlemen, as you can see on your right there is a KLM Jumbo wanting a race. So fasten your seatbelts and hold on tight because this stuff is about to get real.
Excellent and most steady footage. Enjoyed the views of Beijing and landscape. Quite rare to have seen another jet flying relatively nearby in same direction...wow! Thanks for sharing video!! Nice job with it.
kevindt100 Well, usually the cruise speed is 950 km/h. I m thinking maybe there was something wrong with the pitot tubes/speed sensors of that aircraft. 1237 was what, almost 300 more than 950.
+安苹果 Tail wind. at 41,000' or so at .85 or .89mach that's almost 800mph add a good tail wind and on very rare occasions your ground speed is above the speed of sound, however your plane is still only travelling at 700-800mph
You can always and very easily tell apart the "old model" 747 to the new 747-8i. Simply look for the "shark tooth" design on the back edge of the engine. The 787 also has this design and i believe the 737 has it as well. Or will have it in the near future.
+tomtalker2000 The 787 has it on the GEnX-powered aircraft. I believe the 737 MAX will have it on the LEAP-powered aircraft, but those haven't entered service, yet.
The sharp tooth is a very cool design. Supposed to be for noise reduction, I don't know how much it reduces the engine noise. But I know GE uses the design on a lot of the newer engines.
Thomas Hristov racing it hardly and he placed the picture of the klm like 250 meters away in tumbnail but it in the video it's 2 km I'd say and the title eludes you into thinking oh two planes taking off at once racing of course
+Hugo Cheuk Him LOO Planes don't climb with full power due to engine load and noise reduction - that adds to the heavy weight (you need some fuel to get from Beijing to Frankfurt). Just saying - they plane could do better if you let it. But if you wanna see the plane-nificated restricted climb rate, watch the take-off of a A340 (loaded for an average long-haul flight). There is a reason why they call it "the 4-person-hairdryer" ;D.
+Neil Taylor Actually I based my statement on the A340-600 as I see them climbing out from MUC at a daily basis since Lufthansa operates about 80% of their intercontinental flights with these birds - I didn't know as I haven't seen one in action that the 343s are even worse^^. The 346s already just barely make it above the rooftops while an A380 is already at cruise level ... okay, I am exaggerating. But srsly, who thought that an underpowered plane was a good idea? Maybe they burn less on first sight, but having to operate under heavy load can't be that efficient. As I heard, LH is a bit unhappy that they didn't choose the 777 the time they bought the hairdryers because of maintenance costs and efficiency.
+Courier6 Lufthansa A340s that used to takeoff from Portland,Oregon...looked like they were gonna stall and crash.....that fucking POS has a horrible climb rate. Planes (do have to abide by some noise restrictions) but on MTOW situations for long international flights, they run about 90% advertised maximum thrust for the initial climb-out. A Turbo Fan or a Turbo Jet can only be run at full thrust for about 5 minutes before engine damage/degradation takes place. Even EXTANT, they're no composite-metals that can sustain a full-thrust scenario for very long. Once at cruise altitude (depending on load), throttle is usually around 60-75% setting.
No judgments, and there are other factors, but as a guy who's been to Beijing, if you want to see the difference between communism and capitalism just look at the territory surrounding the airport in Beijing and compare it to JFK or lax, or even Taipei or Hong Kong. Dead Zone. (Shanghai too)
The thing is, people are too lazy to watch the full video. People are disappointed that it's not a real race? They are stupid for believing a large plane carrying passengers trying to get somewhere, and people on board who need to attend meetings, etc, are going to actually race another plane, which could possibly waste fuel. Good takeoff, but you have quite a stupid thumbnail on this video... the 747 is not that close during takeoff. As far as I am concerned there was no "Racing" between the two aircraft.
Vijay Visweswaran That is a subjective opinion. While what I stated is an objective FACT! The 747-8 barely sold any planes. While the A380 sold hundreds and continue to get orders. Educate yourself.
FlyingNachosAviation 2138 Cool story! Completely fictional though. The story you told would be true if you said, "Boeing is considering cutting the 747 line, while Airbus' A380 received multiple new orders." But, please continue with your moronic BS.
A380 is a white elephant, son. It's been a financial drain on airbus and an embarrassment because they've booked no firm orders since 2013. The flying pork chop's days are numbered, something airbus is not yet ready to admit. Boeing heavies dominate the cargo and private markets. Seen any cargo A380s or private A380s lately?
Love that sound of those engines 747 will always be a legend of passenger planes and they have a good safety track record still a big Plane only a tad little then the airbus and the 777 is similar size To 747 nice video though have a safe journey and keep up your Good work and many thanks UA-cam

One of the best take off video in years, amazing 747-8. More airlines should purchase these beautiful machines instead of the 787 that I hate :). Thanks for this great video mate.
man with this high def tv it's like being there in plane. now if I can just train my cats to shake the couch on those takeoffs we'd have some motion & I can just stay home & see the world :)

That shot of the KLM 747 is the most sweet view ever. NEED MORE! :)
Is and will always be the Queen of the Skies!!!!!
The 747-8 is such a beautiful plane! I wish it flew for more passenger airlines, what an efficient airplane!
+Josh McCorquodale it really is, the queen of the skies!

soeffingwhat Wrong, A380 doesn't even compare.
soeffingwhat a380 has a short life span.
The KLM's 747's always look so nice with their livery. It really is my favorite airline.
. KLM the best looking 747s in the sky. Great video, thank you for sharing.
ok
ok
Love the non-stop takeoffs.
I love watching the end of the wing slowly straighten out as the plane picks up speed and gains lift
Cool video! It's too bad airline companies aren't ordering many 747 anymore. Love its iconic looks.
This cant be Beijing ....I can see further than 10 mtrs
Very funny
Lol.

Great vid. You flew on THE most elegant aircraft ever built.
+Sir Christopher I have nothing to add to this statement. The 747 always will be the Queen of the Skies.
+Sir Christopher i think the 757 is the most elegant myself but thats just me
+mart f Another good one!!
+mart f I think the 777-300ER is
No one said 787?
so proud of my KLM as a dutchie..... and he was smoking the 8i :)
+Charles Walliburton only on the left hand side
+Wolter Haverhals
KLM 747-400 certainly is a beauty. The 748i is actually the world's fastest airliner with top speed exceeding mach 0.85
+gangster3591 nope, the 747SP is faster ;)
+Wolter Haverhals It is still sad that KLM removed there MD-11 That was a nice aircraft but the 747 i hope it never leaves
+Maurits Veen But not in service
I love that there were so many 747s in the video! This has always been my favorite plane since I was a kid.
Coming back in 2024 to watch this. And seeing all those now gone aircraft in one airport. Oh what good times in aviation we had back then
Yes it's really sad.. Now it's just twinjets everywhere. Thanks for watching - again :)
The view at 1:02 is very classy my friend. Great shot!
+adam willis thank you very much!
baby: ah ehh

5:03 "Oh yeah, I'm flying business class by the way."
Nice vid!
Never have I viewed a shot of an aircraft flying along side another on UA-cam. Excellent video!
Very nice and cool, love the 747-8i, and Lufthansa my favorite airline of the world, fell in love with it since my young teenage years.
Good way to troll people into watching by Photoshopping the KLM747 into the takeoff picture I guess...

Now thats how you film a cool take off!
To me.. its amazing seeing people going totally different places with different schedules and plans.. awesome! One airplane seperates by continents..
Thanks for share "the great capture, 747 my beatifull queen.......
Beautiful video and quality!
The pilot could’ve said: “Ladies and gentlemen, as you can see on your right there is a KLM Jumbo wanting a race. So fasten your seatbelts and hold on tight because this stuff is about to get real.
- Gabi - and then they can announce that they will get fired :)
Klm is winner
- Gabi - didn’t you got that from a vid
how can it get real when their ground speed is basically the same
We`ll see about that , here , hold my beer !!
Those engines are just the coolest looking and so amazing!! Fast fuel efficient and quiet. the 380 and it are so unreal.
The Beast!! I love the 747-8 .. She's a beauty!! 😜😛👍😍😍😎
Interesting how much the wing flexes. You can see the outboard engine moving about.
Germany vs Holland
Netherlands
Raj Nirvan lol
I wonder who got in 1st
Germany I shouldn't wonder haha!
Holland won
Bellissimo decollo in HD ! Super!!!
Great shots of KLM 747 in the distance!
Some plane spotting videos are better than others. This is one of them.
+TheTemest appreciate that! :)
Awesome! Quality is great! What camera?
KTMVT2 hello
FlyingNachosAviation 2138 Hello
We saw this exact plane when it landed at Toronto Pearson in August of 2014. What an amazing site to see the Queen so close
Seeing a 747 from an even larger 747... the best of the best.
Really awesome video mate!
+jelmerpilotHD thank you so much!
+PilotsTubeHD are you a pilot
air quality was awesome
Excellent and most steady footage. Enjoyed the views of Beijing and landscape. Quite rare to have seen another jet flying relatively nearby in same direction...wow! Thanks for sharing video!! Nice job with it.
The 748i is just gorgeous.
The Boeing 747-400 of KLM was damn Fast!
+Asraf Ali Meharally So true. I was on it before Christmas. The ground speed shown on the screen was : 1200+ km/h.
+安苹果 That is a nice tail wind
kevindt100 Well, usually the cruise speed is 950 km/h. I m thinking maybe there was something wrong with the pitot tubes/speed sensors of that aircraft. 1237 was what, almost 300 more than 950.

+tomtalker2000 Also the winglets from the 400 have been replaced with raked wingtips like on the 787.
Also the upper deck seating on a 747-8i is much longer than the 747-400. It's almost half the length of the entire plane.
+tomtalker2000 ALso the winglets...
The sharp tooth is a very cool design. Supposed to be for noise reduction, I don't know how much it reduces the engine noise. But I know GE uses the design on a lot of the newer engines.
Sehr schönes Video. Ich freu mich schon, eines Tages mal mitzufliegen. Die 747 ist und bleibt die Königin der Lüfte.
That's a beautiful thing! I love takeoffs!
5:30 the most spectacular view you will ever have on board of a commercial aircraft

Love that LONG take off roll!!!
awesome video! 747-8 is just beautiful
Your flights seems so heavy. The climb rate is really low.

+Courier6 Yes especially the A340-300 with the CFM 56s, the later A340-500/600s with RR Trent 500s somewhat better.

Nice video. Thanks for sharing.
Love how quiet it is. Doesn't even sounds like the engine, more sounds like the APU on the ground
Very nice! Thanks!
Coole Sache. Im September bin ich AMS-PEK in der KL 747 geflogen^^
Extremely quiet engines, just a hum. I really like the 800, Lufthansa does a nice job with the 12 they are running, the interiors is very nice. You won't be seeing two 800s racing in many places.
