    If you love all those ruffles. You should get a ruffle foot. That way you don't have to pull thread. Also just a reminder those are sheets.They will show any protein stains. I would leave it as is.

      I have a ruffle foot but I dont love the way the ruffles turn out when I use it, mostly because I usually try to pack way more fabric than is recommended into the allotted gathering space 😅 I am the master of my own demise

    Hey. The dress turned out lovely! I'm not sure it's easily available in your area, but if you can get it - fabric dye for use directly in the washing machine is great at giving nice, uniform colour. I use it all the time and the results are always very good.

    • @AlexandriaLayne
      @AlexandriaLayne  Рік тому +1

      Thanks!! I have used fabric dye in my washing machine before and had somewhat mixed results, however with this dress being 100% cotton I think thats a really good idea and I just might give it a try!

    If you do not already have one, I highly reccomend getting a clothing steamer. They are now reasonably priced and in my opinion, invaluable! For pieces that have gathers, pockets, hard to iron places, a steamer is brilliant.
    The dress is so very lovely.

    Roll the dress on a broom stick to line up the wrinkles in a pattern so that you don't have to iron it. Aka " broomstick skirt" I roll all my full width, full-length skirts without a broomstick and tie the result in a knot.

    The dress is beautiful! 😍 I worry about the idea of dyeing it now it's made - personally I'd have dyed the fabric first and then sewed it up - but maybe I'm just a chicken 🐔 and I hope I'm proved wrong and it works out well 🤞

    I'm very excited to see you dye this! Every time I've tried to dye something, it always comes out more tie dye looking than just one color so watching people do it well is fascinating to me. Also, I don't use store bought patterns often but I just bought one to make my kid an eevee onesie and after hearing how you struggled with a pattern, I'm nervous! haha

      oh dang, thats hot! I live in northern Utah and it was a constant blizzard for 6 months and now that its warming up, everyone is expecting it to flood really bad this year, so I have to move all my stuff up from my basement as a precaution 😅

It was from a Nor'Easter while I was living one street over from the harbor and the storm came in at high tide so the tide came in and the street behind me was flooded. Ironically it's named Water Street. I said "Well, its living up to it's name."

    Your videos are literally amazing and everything is on my to sew list 😭💕💕💕
    I'm only a beginner too only I recently made trousers out of this gorgeous coloured poly mix fabric that frays so zo much but I guess it's practice. Even though it's the completely wrong fabric to use as ironing doesn't get creases out and it's like permanent
    But I really want to use up the rest of the fabric I had 3 yards when I started and according to the pattern it uses 1 and half yards to 2 yards of fabric. I was wondering if you have any ideas on what I could do with the rest.
    I wish I could link photos of the fabric ahahaha the colours so beautiful on each side.

      thats awesome you sewed a pair of trousers!! yam poly mix fabric can be pretty tricky to work with for sure! you could always try making a matching top? or a cool tote bag? lol I struggle with coming up with ideas sometimes because I feel like I dont want to *waste* my cool fabrics on something silly 😅😅😅

    I’m just getting into sewing here and I hope this question doesn’t sound stupid, but I’m wondering how two long rectangles that are gathered have the ability to twirl like a circle skirt? How do I get that effect because I love it!

    • @AlexandriaLayne
      @AlexandriaLayne  3 місяці тому +1

      In my experience, the rectangles need to be at LEAST as long as 3 times your waist circumference. Good luck with your sewing!!! It’s a really fun hobby! Albeit quite frustrating at times 😂

    Oh, boy. I have never gotten ill listening to someone talking about trouble with a pattern. Oh me. I just got extremely ill. The Simplicity pattern you had trouble with.....Oh, me. Alas. I started sewing my own clothes 60 years ago. Due to life, I quit sewing 30 years ago. Recently I've decided to go back to something that was always enjoyable to me. I went to find a possible pattern. They only had 1 that should cover my very complicated body issues. It is the exact pattern you hate. Oh no. I have already bought expensive fabric to use this pattern with. Even with the 60 % off sale it was $40.00. Oh, please. I truly hope I actually know what I am doing. Do I actually know how to sew?!?!?! If you pray, please pray for me.
    BTY..Do you happen to have a sister living in California. She reminds me of you. Yall sorta look a lot alike. She is a very twirley gal, too. I watch her videos.
