    As a convicted felon, I can say with out a doubt. Prison saved my life. It is what you make of it. I'm sure there are worse of institutions, but I was able to be productive. An old timer told me I was just like him, and I'd be back. Fuck that. I made the effort then and there to never go back. It's been over 10 years.

    • @roboninja3194
      @roboninja3194 3 місяці тому +3

      I never went back either. But that doesn't mean much when 45% of people who get released go back within a year. Some states have some programs that help people when they get released but a lot have garbage programs that don't help at all. They want to appear like they help.

      @@roboninja3194 i don't disagree with that. But let's be honest. How many of those individuals go back bc A. They didn't stop committing crimes or B. They didn't learn how to not get caught. I don't have remorse for them. Its a choice 99.99% of the time.

    The prison in the US is doing a fine job of making decent criminals into fantastic killers!!! No way can anyone say, with as straight face, that prisons rehab inmates. Once someone spends time in prison, they are 83 percent more likely than the general public to be imprisoned within 18 months!! We have to change our prisons and actually add rehab to the prison system!!!

    Prisons are different from state to state. I live in South Carolina and everybody that I know that has been to prison once has been two or three times. They run their prison system like a business, so repeat customers are a good thing. I went to prison in North Carolina where they use the prison system as reform and rehabilitation. None of the ladies that I was incarcerated with have gone back.

    Prisons don't exist for the prisoner, they exist for society.

      Exactly and society is better when are prison creates more educated productive members of society. Currently prisons make people worse people. And then they get released back into society to cause more havoc.

    What percentage deserves help? I see these young criminals in the media that commit heinous crimes with no regard for other humans and show no remorse upon sentencing. There's no way I want my tax dollars benefitting their lives in any way. And how about programs for the victims to get their lives back together? Who supports a family after the wage earner gets killed?

      I am thinking. I'm thinking what does your reply have to do with my comment? The topic is about helping convicts, not what the media shows. Of course the media shows us stories about violent criminals. It gets ratings. But the reality is that humans do evil things and should be punished. Especially criminals who kill. @@varga4488
