I think the downbeat classic maple drums are the finest and most versatile drums on the market. It is the instant classic sound of ludwig drums. I put together 3 orphans of 6 ply maple shells from the 70s and late 80s in this configuration and these sizes and they're by far, the best sounding drums I've ever owned..
Glacier blue pearl, Rose pearl, and burgundy pearl are some of the nicest wrap finishes ludwig has ever produced. I wouldn't mind owning any of those finishes in the downbeat configuration..
The finish is even more stunning in person, absolutely beautiful! And they sound great over a wide tuning range. One of my favorite Ludwig kits I was very happy to buy from Steve. Many thanks!
I do like the exclusive finish. 20-12-14-matching snare. some coated 1 ply heads might help you sell these. No? The cymbals do sound nice! General Question: when will we see the new Slingerland drum sets? I'm guessing that they will sound like the DW "Classic Series" drums. Thanks Steve for all you do for the drum community.
Hi Will, No consolette because the one we were manufacturing became too costly. I am trying to find a way to get it manufactured here in the USA, but it’s very hard to find anyone who will do smaller batches at a cost that still makes economic sense. “Made in USA” is important to me and I wish more of the US-based die cast and machining companies would try to allocate some of their capacity to helping smaller businesses solve these problems. With no US companies willing to help, it has forced everything like this overseas. So, for me, I would rather not make this part at all if I can’t get them made in the USA. I am still trying! Steve
@@stevemaxwelldrums Im on the same page with Bikes.. I only build USA or Italian made.. No Chinese or Taiwanese.. carbon.. We are all about re- purposing Bikes and, Steel lasts a long time..... just like cymbals and USA made drums. Beauty of a set though...I was watching some Harry James Big Band from the 70's.. Sonny Payne's set... is that a Green sparkle?

So much stick coming from the thin 22. Amazing cymbal!
