Pink was a boys colour until the past 40 years or so and light blue was a girls colour- representing the virgin mary, and purity.

If we create too much of a divide between little girls and little boys, then they grow up to be adults that don't know how to relate to each other. For the first 5 years of my daughter's life all clothes, decor, and toys were gender neutral. She won't wear dresses on the daily but still enjoys dressing up for tea parties. My daughter isn't very girly, but she is balanced enough to have friends that are girls or boys. She is smart and pursues a wide variety of interests. She has the foundation for a lasting marriage, because she can share in the hobbies and interests of her male counterpart. This philosophy worked for me, happily married 16 years now.

When i was younger my parents bought me gender neutral clothes and toys so i could choose one, other, or both when i started to have a preference

My parents just let me wear my cousins' hand me downs so since there were two boys and one girl before me, I usually wore pants and track suits, very few dresses. I feel like there was less of a distinction back then... For mardi gras, I was a princess once when I was 5 or 6, I also insisted on being the little prince when I was 3 and they let me be. The other years I went from polar bear to pippi longstockings to pirate. Noone ever said it wasn't appropriate. I never played with barbies and preferred my remote controlled car, climbing trees and such.
My now 7 year old loved to wear jewellery and dresses and the color pink as a toddler, now he'll only wear dark colours but he makes sure everything pink and glittery and colourful goes to his younger brother who loves it. I wonder if he's living through the little one somehow and it makes me sad to think he's already adapting his taste to what's cool with the older boys.

My daughter has both trucks and dolls...take a wild guess which she prefers to play with?

    • @benardio6193

      Of course dolls

As a kid, I (female) wouldn't play with dolls but I would pretend my cars and trucks were characters that could interact and have lives of their own. (But again, I was never interested in dolls.)

But how do you do that?? That's what I want to know... It seems almost impossible to subvert them from all of the signals given off by the rest of the world...

Just be aware in your own household. Don't force your kid to play with gender specific toys or wear gender specific clothes.

Luis & Julia Torres Also tv!!! Commercials for toys target one gender so they have girls playing with 'girls toys' and boys playing with 'boys toys'.

Don't have to do anything this bozo is saying. Is pure decentralization of gender. Wrong, deviated and sick.

Amelia Jones … only a truly deranged parent would want to subvert their child from the signals given off by the rest of the world!
