Let’s get going. The HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 server takes up to two Intel Xeon 1st or 2nd Generation Scalable processors. The socket type is an LGA3647. Please note, you do have to have an updated BIOS to use a 2nd generation CPU. In general, we recommend keeping your system on the latest BIOS and firmware release. Below are some of the CPUs we recommend. We break it down into 3 categories: Low End, Value, and High End. This is not a complete list, and we would love to hear from the community what processor you’re running in your system. Drop a comment down below!
    Low End
    1st Generation Scalable - Silver
    4110 - 2.1GHz - 8 Core
    4114 - 2.2GHz - 10 Core
    4116 - 2.1GHz - 12 Core
    Value
    1st Generation Scalable - Gold
    6126 - 2.6GHz - 12 Core
    6132 - 2.6GHz - 14 Core
    6142 - 2.6GHz - 16 Core
    High End
    2nd Generation Scalable - Gold/Platinum
    6242R - 3.1GHz - 20 Core
    6248R - 3.0GHz - 24 Core
    8256 - 3.8GHz - 4 Core
We will also show you how to properly remove your old processors. Be careful not to accidentally hit the CPU pins when taking out your old CPU. Also be careful with the old thermal paste. The paste can sometimes flake off and end up inside your CPU pins. We will show you how to handle your CPU and avoid these mistakes. We will also install a CPU upgrade and go over step by step instructions from start to finish.

Your Value CPUs don't take into account the licensing limits. Windows Server standard will only support a pair of eight core or less, unless you pay an additional $50 for each additional core. A better recommendation for the Value CPUs would be 5122(my favorite), 6128, and 6144. A lot of people in the middle want less cores and more speed. They all can be had for about $100 to $400, which is about a tenth of what they started at.
