    Koyu No Te Bulul|山頂的一棵樹
    Arr. Eudenice Palaruan|

    The Department of Tourism should use folk songs like this lovely piece in PH tourism promotions to highlight our rich artistry and music. This song, especially that it is about nature, would serve best as soundtrack for Mindanao tourism ad.

      Nothing has been taken away. It's just a matter of not being familiar with certain things. If you are from Luzon, then it will be expected that you don't know certain things from Mindanao. It's the same everywhere. People from Northern China also have a different culture from the people from Southern China. Likewise in Japan, Korea, etc.

    For those who want the lyrics' translation (like me), I found this comment from another rendition of this song:
    "There is a beautiful tree on top of the mountain
    It has soft leaves and needle-like thorns
    I wish to climb that tree on the mountain
    A bird rests on its branches
    How I wish I can catch the bird, but I know I cannot."
    Posting it here since this is by far my favorite rendition. I like the contrast of fluidity and crispness on this one. Also, there's something about the movements and facial expressions that shows the Filipino spirit - bright, soft, and sweet, but also: silently strong and resilient.

    • @elleporidae
      @elleporidae Рік тому +3

      @@Vic82toire By your very definition, it had been stripped. Hundreds of years of colonization will do that. Filipinos didn’t just casually forget. Our native culture and language were mocked and deemed inferior by the colonizers so our ancestors had to adjust. People suffered for it so they had no choice but to favor Spanish culture. Filipinos then were rewarded for knowing and using Spanish over Tagalog or other native dialect because it implied being “educated” and belonging in the upperclass. In that same grain, it translated to music and the rest of the culture. It’s no different today when with comes to English fluency and foreign music/arts. It has been ingrained in us for so long that “local” is inferior and that’s difficult to unlearn. Unless we actively promote and push for this renaissance in mainstream media, sadly this part of our culture is a novelty at best since it doesn’t exist in our daily lives now.

      Indeed! it is because Frozen 1 and 2 are both inspired from the Sàmi natives of northern Norway and finland. thus, they have some resemblances in tone and vibe.

    Not the most powerful bass but this version is the most enchanting. Saw Philippine Madrigal Singers perform this before and though this performance doesn’t compare it feels more authentic and brings you closer to how a child would listen to this children’s song of the t’boli tribe. Bravo 👏🏻

    I saw this from a reel in IG and loved every second of it. It feels like it was being sung as Southern Philippines was being created. I am from Manila but my dad is Ilocano and my mom is from Manila (Batangas and Quezon Province decent).
    It would be awesome to have this kind of symphonic music with each dialect and each province.
    I truly am into somewhat "rock tribal" music. Mostly I have listened to The Hu (Mongolian), Skald (Finish or Danish), and ofcourse Babanam by Kadangyan
    But this is just amazing...

    Bulul, also known as bul-ul or tinagtaggu, is a carved wooden figure used to guard the rice crop by the Ifugao (and their sub-tribe Kalanguya) peoples of northern Luzon.
    The sculptures are highly stylized representations of ancestors and are thought to gain power and wealth from the presence of the ancestral spirit. The Ifugao are particularly noted for their skill in carving bulul.

      no. bulul in Tboli is bundok. koyu is Tboli for kahoy.
      bulul in Ifugao language are a type of anito.

    • @AngryKittens
      @AngryKittens 2 місяці тому

      Ifugao and T'boli are both Austronesian groups. But just because words look or sound similar doesn't mean they have the same meaning.
      In this case the real cognate of T'boli "bulul" ("mountain") is actually Ifugao "bulud" ("mountain"/"ascending slope"), which is also a cognate of other words in other Philippine languages like Cebuano and Bicolano "bulud" ("hill"), Tiruray "burur" ("hill"), and Tausug "būd" ("mountain").
      T'boli "koyu" ("wood" or "tree") also has a cognate in Ifugao: "kayiw" or "kayu" ("tree"). Which are also cognates of the more familiar Central Philippine "kahoy" ("wood"/"tree"), as well as other cognates like Ilocano "kayo", Maranao "kayo", Binukid "kayu", Manobo "kayu", Tausug "kahuy", Mansaka "kaoy", etc.

    • @AngryKittens
      @AngryKittens 2 місяці тому

      T'boli "bulul" (mountain) = Ifugao "bulud" (mountain)
      T'boli "koyu" (wood/tree) = Ifugao "kayiw"/"kayu" (wood/tree)

    Filipinos are the only real and pure blooded Austronesian. Filipino Austronesian groups like Igorot in the North, T’boli in the South, etc. have a great job preserving the Filipino Austronesian culture.
