Damn. Just watch Richie the entire time. He blows up a Hab, then hustles on the 3-on-2 he created, then gives a beautiful pass to Coburn, who should have scored. He then outhustles everybody -- including Giroux -- to backcheck, and when he disrupts everything he then goes to the wings to wait for a pass. Someone does a half clear-half pass and he outhustles the Hab closer to the puck to get it first on the dive, and then he gets up first to tap it in the open net. All this on Montreal's power play. This is who Richie was, and why Flyers fans loved him.
This and Giroux's shift from last year where he leveled Crosby and then scored right after were two of the greatest shifts I've ever seen in my life. Both players totally deserving of the C (Giroux finally getting it today).
That was a great goal, one of the most memorable Flyers goals of all time. So close to winning the cup, I'm happy Richards,Carter and Gagne got rings with the Kings this past year
The only poor trade we made from that group of guys is the JVR for Scheen trade. You can't honestly say you'd rather have Carter over Vorcheck and Couterier or Richards over Simmonds and Scheen.
+kevin15360 Carter and Richards are smarter players than Simmonds and *Voracek. The only reason why Flyers fans think Simmonds and Voracek are better is because they play more of the physical side of hockey that Flyers hockey used to be like when it was somewhat good. Carter has an infinitely better shot than both Simmonds and Voracek, and Richards is way more clutch than both of them. Mistakes were made, and nobody can honestly say that the Flyers are the dogs they used to be since Carter and Richards were traded.
blowing up a core that had another couple seasons left in them for a B rated, overpaid goaltender. think about it, it's only been in the last 2 seasons or so both carter n richards have declined. we could've had more shots at the cup and start rebuilding now. i'm not saying the trades were bad... but the reason they were traded is brutal... all for bryz... the window of opportunity was still there and we blew it up prematurely because the media kept pressuring about needing a #1 goalie... and we failed to realize we already had one in bobrovsky n neglected him. all that followed by some terrible signings and failure to resign by homer hurt the team... still feeling some of those terrible contracts. it's whatever at this point, the flyers now are building something but man... that window was there and we closed it ourselves.
@@kevin15360 it's not always about the value of skill. Richards and Carter were a major part of the cities identity. And now in 2023 Philly doesn't even have an identity. We are so far from what the flyers are all about.
This is one of my all time favorite goals. Hexy's goal against the Caps in the playoffs was cool but this one...this one...the crowd was so into it. I love the fact that I saw this this morning and watched it again. OK, 4 ro 5 times...So glad Richie won the cup this year...and Hexy and Gagne and Carter and Lombardi. Very cool. NOW QUIT THE SHIT OWNERS!!! LETS PLAY HOCKEY AGAIN!!!!!
@CatieCass No heart eh? Is that why he was trying to stop an empty net goal with seconds to go with the series already over? Richards biggest 2010-2011 flaw was not getting surgery early. He tried to play through an injury that just utterly drained him and it was a mistake. But it was a mistake MADE from heart. Ask the Gold-Medal canadian team about him.
The guy showed up to play every game.He gives you all he has and then some.I knew he was good but didn't really get to see him play that much until Olympics and 2010 Cup against my Hawks.Him Nash and Tazer stopped Ovie and line cold. Then even though he lost he played great for the Flyers. The only thing he smokes is the opposition.
Yea i agree richards won at every single level of hockey he played...not only that but he could probably play while rolling hard..haha. remember when he got stopped with pills and bud. True Flyer. As a long NHL fan I would rather have a drink with him than Sid...although I think Crosby would have epic stories....I just think that if the two of them where to be in a heated fight...Michael would win
Daryl Reaugh "The Flyers captain is announcing his presence as the alphamale early in this one" thats great...beninati and reaugh were great together...
@gohabsgo27AK how is the prince of wales trophy meaningless? It means they are the BEST team in the entire eastern conference. So out of all of the grea teams in the east; the caps(who I am a fan of), penguins, the bruins, the Flyers are the best. I woud say that means something if they can come from an 8th place regular season and prove that they are a cup contender
@TheDelranActor07 he wanted to get to the puck because it was obvious that Hamrlik was going to be beat to the puck cause Richards was coming in with a full head of steam and Hamrlik was nonchalant about it most people blame Halak for this goal but Hamrlik deserves more blame than Halak because he should of not been so nonchalant. None the less it was great awareness by Richards.
@gohabsgo27AK keep tellin yourself that... whatever helps you sleep at night. Just know that the Habs will not make the finals this year as long as the Flyers have a say
@lindensurfer88 im a bruins fan and i loved this guy (except when he took out krecji in 2010 playoffs) but why the fuck did u trade him? hes nasty, tough and can score. such a mistake. LA is def making the conf finals maybe the cup

Pens Suck
This team was awesome to watch, too bad we had to face the blackhawks
This and Giroux's shift from last year where he leveled Crosby and then scored right after were two of the greatest shifts I've ever seen in my life. Both players totally deserving of the C (Giroux finally getting it today).
The goal, the celebration, the atmosphere... chills down the spine. Great times.
tucked his tail in the final tho...maybe buff scared him
Favorite flyer of all time
That was a great goal, one of the most memorable Flyers goals of all time. So close to winning the cup, I'm happy Richards,Carter and Gagne got rings with the Kings this past year
Joe Beninati is in the top 3 greatest announcers of all time
my favorite hockey goal of all time scored by my favorite player ever
Those were some exciting times as a Flyer fan. Richie was a beast those playoffs.
What if the Flyers kept Richards, JVR and Carter?, History coulda been made SMH

Richards was one of the hardest working Flyers there was. Richards, you are missed in Philly
i miss Richie
God Richards is amazing. What a memory of the playoffs.
The game and the series was over after this play. One of the best moments in Flyers playoff history.
this might be my favorite goal in the history of the flyers......good luck in los angeles, richie. you will be missed.
One of the best Philly goals of all time.

One of the most hilarious goals of NHL History
wish this years team had as much heart as that 2010 team we would win the cup no doubt
Daryl Reaugh "The Flyers captain is announcing his presence as the alphamale early in this one" thats great...beninati and reaugh were great together...
I miss you Richie

History will be made.
@63FreireDragon HELL YEAH!!!!
@77HeIix your HIGH!!!
theyre really needing richie... sadly i regret it but they need a key player than can carry them right now.
Bye Mike :(
Wow, look at Hamrlik slack off on the blue line on that play. He totally could've made a difference had he not given up.
@gohabsgo27AK keep tellin yourself that... whatever helps you sleep at night. Just know that the Habs will not make the finals this year as long as the Flyers have a say
Radulov got hit hard twice in the same shift haha ouch
