  • Today, the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom will hear a case deciding whether courts can impose indefinite reporting restrictions in end of life cases.
This is the story of Rashid and Aliya Abbasi. In 2019, their daughter Zainab died after the hospital turned off life-supporting equipment against their wishes. Police tore Rashid away from his daughter and arrested him, which led to him suffering a heart attack.
Severe reporting restrictions stopped them from fully telling their story. They weren't alone - Lanre Haastrup faced similar restrictions after his son Isaiah died.
They challenged these restrictions with the help of the Christian Legal Centre, both winning at the Court of Appeal.
The case has now reached the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, being heard on 15 and 16 April.
