Edouard and Tiphanie, along with their three children, opted for a unique approach to tiny living by choosing two separate tiny homes instead of one, with each house serving a distinct purpose.
Each of the two homes is 6 meters long (about 19.6 feet) and boasts 13 square meters of living space on the main floor. The first house is the parents' domain, containing a cozy bedroom, a family kitchen, and a bathroom. The second house is entirely dedicated to the children, with separate bedrooms, play areas, and a separate bathroom.
This setup isn't meant for weekend getaways-these tiny homes are designed for full-time living, offering the family all the comfort and storage they need without sacrificing space or functionality. Having two homes rather than one means there’s room for full-sized appliances, generous storage, and ample personal space, all while maintaining the charm and fluidity that makes tiny living so appealing.
The homes were custom-built by Lou Tiny House, an artisanal builder based in France. Each home is unique, designed specifically to meet the family’s needs. Craftsmanship is key, with wooden frames and high-quality materials, providing both a nostalgic aesthetic and modern comfort. In the main house, a large porthole replaces a traditional window, allowing natural light to flood the space, making it feel larger than its actual size.
The kitchen is equipped with full-sized appliances, including a built-in dishwasher, and generous countertop space. One side of the kitchen even features a pop-up snack bar, while the other integrates seamlessly with the stairs to the loft, which are packed with built-in storage. The bathroom is equally practical, with enough space to double as a laundry room, complete with a washer and dryer.
One of the standout features of this tiny house duo is the dual lofts, connected by a hammock floor section. The clever design maximizes space, allowing the children to sleep and study in separate areas while still maintaining a sense of togetherness. The children’s bedrooms are equipped with desks for schoolwork and plenty of sunlight, making them functional and bright.
