one suggestion for sending clothing as letter mail. Use a vacuum sealer (like the food saver). It flattens your garment and it will not puff back up if tossed around. Fits into a brown 8.5" envelope and slides right through the slot.
smart
I was actually talking to my mom about the shirt thing a few days ago. She lives in a small town where everyone knows everyone and they are always trying to help each other. She said the post office lady told her "I can't squish it down to fit through the slot, but if you do it, I can't stop you and as long as it fits through the slot when I put it through, I can put the stamps on for you, even if the air fills it back up after it goes through" I don't know how likely it is that it could get rejected and sent back, but she has been doing it for almost a year now and hasn't had any packages returned yet.
Here in the UK Royal Mail does a lot for businesses, if you post over 50 items a month you can get big discounts. We also have 4 different services for letters:
1st Class - Aim next day,
2nd Class - Aim 3 days,
24 - Aim next day with tracking,
48 - Aim 2 days with tracking.
They also have Recorded Delivery via a signature on delivery available for a small amount more.
We can also print labels from a printer and put small enough items in a Post Box or take them to a post office or Delivery Office.
The only way to fully understand what Royal Mail does is to look at their website but the list is incredibly extensive and requires more than a UA-cam comment.
If you happen to want to know more I would be willing to answer.
Owen 😊
Sounds like a really good service! We could certainly use something like that I Canada! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this information. I was sitting on games for awhile, and this free shipping has upped my sales by being lower than comps. Thanks a lot.
I will point out that if you're using a $1.94 and $1.30 stamp to send Lettermail 100-200 g within Canada, you're effectively wasting 5 cents every shipment. Might not seem like much, but it adds up over time. You just need to do the math with the available stamps; just stock up on a bunch of low-value stamps and make up the amounts as you need them.
If you want the convenience, you're better off just buying a bunch of $1.07 stamps. Slap three of those on each envelope and you're only overpaying by 2 cents instead of 5.
That’s a really good point and something that I forgot to mention in the video. The 3 $1.07 stamps seem like a much better way to go. Thanks for sharing as I didn’t think of that! I initially figured that the extra that I was paying was worth it because of the time I was saving but if I can get it for closer to the same price that’s even better!
@@common_lad Yeah, plus you can buy the $1.07 in rolls of 50 for convenience. If you get them from the post office you'll often get weird looks from the clerks because they can't fathom why someone would want that many $1.07 stamps haha (usually the only people buying those are just sending regular letters and don't want to buy a book of domestic stamps, so if anyone is buying more than like 8 $1.07 stamps they might look at you weird and ask you why you're buying them).
Of course, you can always just order your stamps on canadapost.ca as well - shipped to your door for free and you don't have to deal with any postal clerks.
😂😂 to funny! But ya that seems like a better way to do it! I will check online and make an order and give this a try. Thanks so much for you help!
@@common_lad also it is an option to get like 1 cent, 5 , 20 ,25 cent stamps from the post office to get that exact price youre trying to cover in stamps
@@jleeismee one time I went to the post office on inventory day and they asked if they could use low value stamps on my letter mail packages so they didn't have to count as much at the end of the day. I had a couple packages with like 20 stamps on them, but they made it there hahhaha I can only imagine what the customer was thinking when they got it xD
Great Video bro, keep up da good work!
Thanks!
I believe they have the charts on the Canada Post site.....just type Canada Post letter mail chart & for the U.S.A.
I’ll have to check that out! Thanks!
Never found it! If someone has it, please share lol

Also on etsy you can buy a letter sizer like they have at the post office. Some are called the slot of doom.

From what I'm told, the USA no longer takes letter-size postal mail unless it's paper documents, with just a stamp, you can still ship it across borders in an envelope but it has to be paid for as a small package service, Canada post claims it cost $7.50 for that service but I never was able to pay under $9 for a small package to the USA.
Hmm that’s strange. I haven’t heard of that as my post office I believe still sends them as lettermail. But around $7 is what I’m paying so maybe it’s a different service that I didn’t realize.
@@common_lad If it works for you and your packages make their way to your customers! Don't stop hahaha. Here in Quebec anyways never able to send something to the USA for under 9$ I can post and item in an envelope and ship it to the UK using two 1.94 stamps but not to the USA
One thing I want to point out as a drawback to using the lettermail w/ no tracking, altough not a requirement for being a top rated seller within canada, it is for the united states to become a top rated seller (you need to have over 95% of your order with tracking i think)
Ya I’ve heard of that as being a problem. Doesn’t seem to be a problem on my account but defiantly something to be aware of.
omg thank you so much for this
Great insight right!
I like the idea of combining stamps. Let's say I'm shipping a package over 100g to US. Would I combine 3 $1.90 stamps to cover the $5.57 fee?
Yes
Plz make a video on how to ship to USA? Cheapest shipping.. just like letter mail shipping..
amazing. thanks man!
awesome video!
Thank you so much for this awesome video. Don’t you still need to use a declaration form or just are plain stamps enough?
Only when sending things to the states or international - not in Canada.
What about bubble mailer that's over an inch? I have many figures that can technically fit in a bubble mailer, but it'll be over an inch
It has to be an inch or less total including the mailer.
Hi there,
Thank you so much for your video! So helpful!
May I ask if the letter mailers you referred to in this video a term interchangeable with bubble mailers? Does bubble mailers work under letter mail prices?
Yes lettermail included bubble mailers!
I feel dumb, where can you buy the oversized lettermail in bulk, just canada post?
Doesn't canada post still make 1, 2, 5, 10 cent stamps so you can make the postage on the packages exactly 3.19???
So, I'm shipping a Nintendo game in a 9x7 bubble mailer to Ontario from bc. On my eBay listing I used Canada Post regular park that totals up to 16. Now I found your way of shipping and my package is like 4 oz how would I ship this for the cheapest amount? Do I use non standard letter mail? I'm doing this by Ebay's Shippo and how could I change my shipping type? Please reply asap
Hi, hopefully this reply is still helpful. How valuable is the game? If it is over $50 you probably want to stick with the tracked package anyway. If it is less you could just send via lettermail and if its 4oz it will cost $3.19 or a $1.94 stamp + a $1.30 stamp. In this case you do not ship through shippo and just print the buyers address on the parcel and mark shipped on ebay once sent.
@@common_lad I sent it with registered mail cause it’s worth 120
can you make a video explaining how to buy shipping labels online from canada post i am an etsy seller and having to lug my son to the post office everyday is a hassle for me sometime so being able to just put them all in the mail box downstairs in my condo would be helpful please HELP
Hey, not sure if you got your answers or not, but if you print your labels directly from Etsy, it will be cheaper than taking them to the post office because they offer up to 30% off on their shipping labels. If you have a Canada Post small business card, you can also link it to your Etsy account and get additional savings when you buy your shipping labels there. These are good for if you have parcels that can't be sent by letter mail. If they are within letter mail size guidelines, you are better off using stamps, but from what I've found so far, international oversized letter mail is cheaper to send directly from the post office.
Love to know what you do to send oversized mailletters International please!
Hello, I just mailed a small letter mail with 1 ring inside, using an 18 cm x 13 cm small envelope under 40 gms, to LA and it costs me $10. It went through the lettemail slot. Is it really $10 to ship that small and light envelope?
Your a life saver! But i have a product an inch thick! Hahaha
Glad I could help. Haha!
Do you know if you can pay for tracking on oversized mail or is it not available for lettermail? I remember you had mentioned that you don't typically do tracking when you're sending your oversized parcels. I'll be sending t shirts for my small business so just curious about that. Thanks so much for your videos!
Do you sell sports cards and what bubble mailer size do or would use for say five cards with two top loaders, one on top and bottom?
Did you figure out oversized international letter mail?
If you put letter mail w/ no tracking as your shipping specification do you still need to provide tracking if you want to be a top seller.
I sell sports cards and its a hard ask for someone to pay 10 dollars on a registered letter for a 5 dollar card...
Thanks for the insight bro.
Hey common lad great video! What are import charges on ebay? Should I be charging them to buyers? I feel like this might hurt the chances of selling that item. Thanks, this might make an interesting video idea.
Good question, I'd like an answer too!
Hey! As far as I know you don’t have to charge import fees. eBay should handle it all. The % amounts are different based on the category and the item condition (new vs used) but again I don’t think you need to worry about this as eBay should handle it. I’ve never had a problem with it. Hope this helps!
Not sure if this is allowed, but wondering if you could made a pdf of the canada post lettermail sheet! No worries if not :)
Not sure if I could have.... but apparently it’s fairly easy to find online. When I get the link I will put it in the description!
Would you still need to print out a shipping label and put it on a bubble mailer?
In your old video (part 1) you specify you dont use ebays quotes ...do you just use your new chart and then type in the cost in the sectiom "chose what buyer pays for shipping" ?
I only meant that for when using lettermail. But yes that chart would be used to create your own flat rate price for anywhere in Canada and if you choose so internationally as well.
Lets say you send under 100g, so wouldn't you need more than the $1.94 if tax isn't included? In ontario at 13% tax that would come out to $2.19 which you mean the international stamp $2.30 would be the best option
That would be the case however you pay tax on the stamp when you buy it so there is no difference. $1.94 stamp still covers it as tax was paid when you purchased the stamp. (In other words the stamp includes tax)
@@common_lad than I think that I overpaid on postage today. Lady there told me to put stamps that total to be $2.19. Which thinking about that now, like you said means I paid taxes twice.
@@common_lad called Canada Posts support number and the lady at the post office was definetly wrong. I was supposed to only put $1.94 stamp. Instead I put $2.22 worth. Basically paid tax twice on that package. At least I thought to confirm after the first package.
Ya good that you caught that! Defiantly confusing for sure. But ya as far as I know the price has always been $1.94. Glad that Canada post confirmed that aswell!
Can you use $1.30 US rate stamps for lettermail between 30g to 50g? Or do I have to use a permanent stamp with low definitive stamps that are worth cents?
I believe if it is oversized you have to use the $1.94 as a minimum but you may be able to add just $1.30 if it is only 30g over 100g I believe.
Do you ever use eBay Global Shipping program for larger items?
What do you do when someone orders 2 games at the same time through eBay. Do you ship separately so you can still meet lettermail requirements?
You can actually fit 2 games in a wide bubble mailer and still send lettermail. Just a bit more money but still cheaper then sending separate.

hey man, i hope you still read comments because i have a question.
i started a video game business on ebay not that long ago. it’s been going smoothly, but i’ve only been using lettermail without tracking. i’m selling games that value from 10-100$ each and i’ve already shipped out 10 or so games without tracking. i’m starting to hear that they can say they didn’t get the game and get a refund automatically no matter what if i didn’t provide tracking. i’m a little scared about this happening to me and i wanted to know, how often does this happen?
Hey! Yes I try to get to all of them. This is a a valid concern and something I’ve given some thought to aswell. I looked into this a while ago and my numbers suggest that this was only happening once or twice for every 100 sales or in other words 1%-2% percent. And that’s just buyers saying games didn’t arrive which could have been completely true. When I compare this though to the amount of sales I would get if I charged for tracked shipping it would put me out of business. It is unfortunate that Canada post doesn’t have a cheaper tracking option but it is what it is. Also keep in mind that buyers are more likely to do this on higher prices game so if it is more valuable then I would send it with tracking at the buyers expense. Hopefully this helps.
Unfortunately no tracking will attract scammers. And eBay always sides with the buyer.
that's only within canada though? i want to send oversized mailletter international with stamps. is it possible?
great video! Curious how you would ship a ds or 3ds game thats cartridge only?
For cartridges that are really valuable (ex Pokémon) I will put them in an old unused case. If it’s just a regular cartridge I usually put it in a small ziploc bag and right into the bubble mailer. If you want to be really safe you could put a piece of cardboard behind them which is what I do for loose discs but I’ve never had a problem just shipping cartridges like that. Hope this helps!
Thank you for this awesome video! .. I am trying to ship items in a 4x8 inch bubble mailer and it looks like it falls under standard lettermail. Would I be able to just buy stamps for standard lettermail and drop them into outgoing mail of my community mailbox?
Thats correct! Ya you would just drop it off in your local red lettermail box.
You can also buy from other locations or platforms, I bought from eBay paid like $85 for bunch of stamps that are worth $100 face value, u just need to make sure the seller is a reputable one. Am new to Letter mail so I have a question: for a 3.19 shipping fees Do I stick stamps with that value or it should be higher to cover tax ? Or is tax included in these stamps? Am confused on this part
As long as you stick stamps of that value then you are okay because they usually charge tax on the stamps which makes them the same.
I don't think you can send DVD's to U.S. in a lettermail. It'll have to be in a small packet. Did I get it wrong?
To be honest I’ve been a bit confused about this as sometimes it appears I can and sometimes I can’t. Same deal with international and certain destinations. Still looking to figure this out.
@@common_lad I guess we are both learning. Have you heard of chit chats also? I heard it's supposed to be cheaper for shipping to U.S. or international.
Lettermail going internationally through Canada Post is called Letter-post. It is for printed matter ONLY (i.e. letters). Anything that is not a letter (referred to as “Goods”) must be sent as a parcel with a customs declaration. You can’t send video games in a bubble mailer via Letter-post outside Canada. This information is all easily accessible through the Canada Postal Guide. I work for Canada Post and also sell online. If you have any questions or are confused by anything then let me know - happy to help!
@@JurassicMatt Small Packet USA - Air, right? I've looked at what can't be sent by letter-post to the U.S.. I know DVD is not allowed.
@@clm3888 That's correct; the cheapest Canada Post shipping method to the U.S. for non-lettermail items is Small Packet USA - Air.
However, I've been getting some fantastic rates through NetParcel on PayPal lately, so you might want to check that out. I shipped a DVD to the states last week through NetParcel for under $9 CAD. It's being delivered by UPS and has full tracking and insurance (which Small Packet Air through Canada Post does not).
I want to ship clothings in canada wide.please tell me cheepest shipping.
Broski how much do you make a month from ebay? Lowest/highest?
Heyy, can you use Stamps to ship small boxes as well?? Like let's say you're shipping a mug / cup?
I don’t think it would work for a mug but for small items under an inch thick I believe you could.
My mom is able to sell lip balm through letter mail because they fit through the slots, but has to purchase shipping labels for mugs and other larger items.
Have you thought about getting a postage meter?
Yes actually, I’ve looked into it but they are still to expensive and not worth it at our scale. Perhaps in the future though!
i believe this is a great video But if you can talk a little slower that will help in General
Thanks for the video man! Would love to see what you do for international shipping and USA. I sell trading cards so they’re pretty light and thin. Also I he shipping would be cheaper if they buy more at once. Wondering how you handle that
No problem! I usually ship with small packet air or tracked packet. That being said you could also get away with international lettermail as they are cards but it takes quite a while so it depends on the value of it. Also when shipping multiple at once I would offer a combined shipping rate as you could put for example 10-15 cards in one parcel and still send lettermail for the same price. Definitely a good way to increase sales.
Why they always charge you for a package at the post office? They told me if it’s not paper you need to pay for a parcel even if it’s super small?
Not true, tell them that it’s a letter mail and as long as it fits into letter mail box it can go.
Hi may I ask what it means if my nonstandard mail is getting sent back ? If I put more then 1 stamp on to cover a item under 30g is it sent back ?
If it gets sent back its usually because of insufficient postage or it being too big. For an item that is between 30g-100g a $1.94 stamp should cover it.
Hi, may I know about shipping labels. Like do I need to stick them on my packages? Will Canada post help me do it or do I have to do it myself? Thanks :)
Hey! With regards to shipping labels I just make my own with the buyers address and my return address. Canada post will not really help you with the label part.
if youre mailing international parcels, you can fill out the customs form on Canada Post's website. u can print it out or email the barcode to your phone for the Canada Post clerk to scan and they will print out the shipping label. All you need to do is date and sign before they pack it
@@common_lad Hey would the shipping label be an additional cost on top of the $3.35 when you make it at home? I've looked through paypal, ship station and easy ship, they all seem to be priced around $12-22
Hi. How do you get paid on your eBay? I wanted to use the CanadaPost lettermail system on my website too. But I dont know how untracked shipping works with PayPal.
In canada Paypal doesn't require tracking on the items. So I get payed through paypal and just ship untracked.
Hey bro I’m selling phone cases on eBay and I want to ship with letter mail I got mailers 7x5 what stamp do I have to buy for it and can I just put it in the mailbox or do I have to go to Canada post please get back to me if u can thanks man ur channel helped me alot already love the vids and do u have a label printer or do u just write it out with a pen
If they are under 100g they will only need a $1.94 stamp anywhere in Canada. If over they will need a combination of stamps most likely. You can just drop off any lettermail items in a red box. And for the labels you could print them on labels, on a normal sheet of paper and tape them on, or just write it out. Just make sure to have there address in the middle and your return address at the top left and the stamp on the top right. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Common Lad thanks man for the help !
@@common_lad Hey, Thank you for reply. Could you please tell one more question? Can I ship a glass bottle with letter mail? Glass bottle weight is 87gm and dimensions are 3*3*9 cm.
@@nasirvaidya6213 No I don't think you would be able to do that unfortunately.
You can print out the addy from eBay. And just run off a sheet of 30 up labels with your own addy.

Yes anyone can sign up for one!
Hi. Once the shipping is calculated is calaculated who is paying it? Do I have to pay it in the first place then I get a refund by the buyer?
Hey! When using calculated shipping you will receive the amount the eBay calculates and then you go and pay using that. Sometimes it’s off by a few cents hear and there but for the most part this system works. The other option is to print the receipt through eBay
