Honestly Rong had the right idea. If the entire palace is playing one against the other and murdering each other’s kids, best way to win in the end is not to play at all. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

I cried when Lady Rong drank the soup. Her heart belonged to another and she was never going to be happy there and couldn't bear to see a child used as a pawn for the throne. She was one of my favorites on this show along with Ruyi, Rongpei, Ling Yunche.
The emperor punished Ruyi for his own incompetencies. He refused to accept the fact that Concubine Rong had the audacity to demand that she didn't want kids. His mother was right, he only has himself to blame for this situation. All because he couldn't accept that someone on this earth dared to refuse to be with him, to have his kids or to give him her heart.

Noble Lady Rong and the empress are my favorites. She because part of the concubine for her tribe that he won't force her to a children without love. The empress is so understanding this whole time, and she may be an empress but someone will always be above her so she can't really do much.
I could listen to Rong and Ruyi talk for hours. They both have such beautiful voices. And faces. And personalities.

One thing a lot of Chinese immigrants in Canada adopted is not to put up with mother inlaw and kick filial piety to the curb (parents living with one of their sons) many of my 1st/2nd Gen male Indian and Chinese friends are struggling with this delimma right now. I remember my grandmother absolutely refused to go to old age home. I felt so bad for her she used to cry asking where she went wrong that none of her 10 kids wanted to care for her. Finally one of daughters caved. My parents fully expects to live with my brother even though they shipped my grandmother away. I don't mind but you do have to take into consideration what your wife wants.

@@jadewu111 the fact that she already had a beloved is irrelevant to the question of whether or not she was being raped. She did technically ultimately consent to the arrangement for the sake of diplomatic relations between the Qing and her native Han tribe, but she was still coerced into it.

That being said, I applaud Noble Lady Rong for taking the ultimate defiance... the emperor may have been low-key holding her and her people hostage, but she denied him the trophy that he wants.
Ruyi endured more of the emperor than the whole palace, no matter what happened in the past to him he treated her like that on his own account also knowing she is nice but you will be punished for trying to mess with her. This is why I don't feel bad for him when she died or divorce him, because once again it was his fault!!

Concubine Rong was right. You should only have children with the person you love. My parents slowly started to resent one another a few years after my birth and let me tell you… growing up in a loveless household is awkward, suffocating, and traumatizing. A lot of the mental health issues I have stem from some of the things I witnessed. Not to mention the stupid Emperor NEVER stopped to consider the feelings of his harem or their wishes (the ones that weren’t soaked in greedy ambitions I mean). He also did a horrendous job of protecting them and his royal heirs sooooo. 🤷🏻♀️

She had to have known this would ruin Ruyi. Didn’t need to involve her in her martyrdom.
She knew she compromised Ruyi and wanted to return the favor which she does multiple times. I get what she was trying to do I wouldn't want to be pregnant with the Emperor's child either but seeing how bad Ruyi's relationship with the Emperor was she must've had known or didn't think about how her decision would affect Ruyi. Even when the ED told him it wasn't Ruyi's fault he still punished her. Consort Rong would've done better just going to ED and ask her can she help her become infertile at least then the Emperor wouldn't make a big fuss like this.

I have been following and re-watching episodes of this show for weeks and I'm reassured in my conclusion as to why I don't bother to watch many Chinese dramas to the end. The endings are always incredibly sad or violent so I just never watch the end anyway. I find the Emperor to be infatuated with himself, a narcissist, a philanderer, abusive, cruel, jealous, arrogant, and definitely not husband material by any rational human being regardless of their sexual leanings. His capacity for true love is measured by how often he has sex and the submissiveness of his quarry. A truly despicable trait in a man. It sort of resembles an American show where a bunch of women do their best to get the bachelor to marry them. (I don't bother with that show since it shows how nasty women can be when they are fighting for a prize, LOL) The entire harem is in constant "survive at all cost" mode with anyone ranked higher or they were jealous of, a target for incredibly inventive ways of threat removal. Ruyi should have given up her Empress title when she realized how weak and pathetic the Emperor had become. I do have several positive comments, however. The venue was spectacular and the acting was superb!! Many of the women showed their real acting chops in the death scenes with no makeup and poor lighting in some scenes working against them. The woman playing Ruyi was very talented as well. She never got hysterical and conveyed many emotions facially through her eyes and her mouth movements. She was an oasis of calm in the midst of a typhoon, LOL!! If this is a true story then it's no wonder that East meeting West has real problems even in the modern world trying to understand each other.

One thing I never understood was Yanwan had all these kids but the Emperor never gave one to Consort Rong to raise she is a perfect candidate she didn't want to use a child, no one bothered her, she had the Han protection, and the child would be spoiled due to Consort Rong being the Emperor's favorite.
She rejected the idea of having children with the Emperor she wasn't against raising any of them maybe the Emperor wanted her to have her own space but given she was basically by herself majority of her time there having a child to raise would've been nice to see.

The previous Ruyi (then later as Empress Dowager then Emperor Wu Zetian) from Tang (the Zhou) Dynasty also had nemesis Consort Wei out to destroy /kill her. Reincarnation loop.. they repeats the same struggles, but the Nara Clan DNA had more heart & didn’t make her as sharp& ruthless as Wu family DNA. “Lady Wei” definitely became demon and came back this life for revenge.. out for blood.
